Did you know it’s a legal requirement to have cats and dogs microchipped? Elfston (Our Elf on the vet clinic shelf) has been checking that Santa chipped his pet dog!

December has arrived and it seems we have a new member to the Kelston Vets team. Welcome to Elfston our very own “Elf On The Vet Clinic Shelf”.

Elfston has already sprinkled some Christmas magic at the practice with some seasonal decorations and some toys and gifts for our clients to purchase, so visit the practice if you’d like to pick up gifts for your furry friends and family.

We would like to make our clients aware that if they are travelling from Bristol, the A431 through Swineford is currently closed. Coming from Bath the Kelston Road is now back open and the practice can be accessed

This lovely chap is Chester, he came into the practice on Friday for a routine Nurse Clinic. On examination we found he had lost quite a lot of weight and we discovered he had been drinking and urinating more than usual. We decided to perform some in-house tests and Chester was subsequently diagnosed with diabetes. He is now ready to start treatment and we wish him all the best.
Chester’s case really highlights the importance of routine, preventative healthcare in picking up any illnesses as early as possible. 😻

Kiki has been in to the practice today for a Senior Health Clinic. She has been weighed, had bloods taken and had her blood pressure measured. She has been a fantastic patient! 😻

Remember Hedgehogs

🎃Pumpkins🎃
Please remember when disposing of your pumpkins - Don’t put them on the ground as Hedgehogs could eat them and it acts as a laxative for them. It can cause them to have serious diarrhoea and dehydration, which can be fatal as at this time of year they need to be putting weight on ready to hibernate over the winter. So instead please place your pumpkin in the food waste bin or compost bin.

🔥Bonfires🔥
Stop - rather than having your own bonfire, could you attend a community event instead?
Move - if you do have a bonfire build it on the day you plan to light it. And move all materials to a new site to ensure no wildlife is hiding inside.
Check - before lighting it from one side, check the whole bonfire for pets and wildlife.

🎆🎇Firework season is here🎇🎆
Here are a few tips to help keep your pet calm this firework season.

If you also think they might need some additional help Nutracalm is a supplement that can be added to your pet’s food to help keep them calmer during the sometimes distressing firework season. It’s available to purchase from reception.

Cats and Dogs are living longer than in previous years thanks to improvements in nutrition, veterinary and home care. With increased life span comes a risk of a variety of conditions.
If detected early, these conditions can be managed to improve quality of life and longevity.
Senior Health Clinics at Kelston Vets are undertaken by our experienced Nurses and include a health check, blood and urine test and blood pressure check.
