🌞🐈How to keep cats safe in the hot weather🐈‍⬛🌞

🐈Keeping cats inside during peak hot times of day, ensuring they have access to indoor cool, well ventilated areas.
🐈‍⬛Ensuring there is plenty of drinking water for them available inside and outside.
🐈Check when closing greenhouses and sheds that no cats are in there.
🐈‍⬛Consider using pet friendly sunscreen for light coloured cats especially on their noses and ears.
🐈Monitor for signs of overheating; look for panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, wobbly movements. If you see any of these signs please call your vets for advice.

☀️🐾How to keep dogs safe in the hot weather🐾☀️

🐾Try to walk them early in the morning and later in the evening when its cooler. During the day try to keep their activity levels relatively low.
☀️Before walking them check the temperature of the pavement so as not to burn their paws. Check it by holding your hand to the surface, if you can hold it there for 7 seconds it should be ok to walk them. If you can’t delay your walk.
🐾Never leave your dog in a car even for a minute. Even with the windows open, it gets hot very quickly & could be fatal.
☀️Ensure they have access to shady cool places with lots of water.
🐾Monitor for heatstroke signs; heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting and diarrhoea, pale/red gums, collapse or seizures. If you see any of these signs please call your vets for advice.

This very handsome chap is Bruno he visited us recently to collect his Pet Health Plan flea treatment. He was such a cool character and it was so lovely to see him feeling very relaxed about visiting the practice 🥰.

Meet Pip, isn’t she gorgeous 🥰. She is a 10week old smooth coat collie. She recently visited the practice and was so well behaved and patient. PiP, we look forward to seeing you back at the practice for some more treats and smooths 🥰
