Sometimes we do more than grooming!

Today we made one of our clients aware of a nasty wound we found on their cat’s back foot. We administered First Aid and advised the client to contact their vets.

As groomers, we get to see every inch of your cat and will alert clients to things which they might not be aware of. We always recommend seeking veterinary attention where necessary.

Examples of things we have alerted clients to this year so far are:

Wounds
Lumps
Skin issues
Eye infections
Ingrown claws
Abscesses
Broken tooth
Ticks (which we remove)
Fleas (and provide advice how to treat them on your cat and in the home)

We are not vets but we do at times spot things which you might otherwise miss.

Let’s talk about ingrown nails!

Please try to check your cats nails on a regular basis. Some cats never need a nail trim but some do!

We see ingrown nails more commonly in older cats as they become less active as they get older therefore making it harder for them to shed their nails. However, it can happen to any age of cat for various reasons, some cats are just more prone to them.

As groomers we always trim a cats nails as part of any service, but they can grow back as quickly as a couple of weeks.

So be aware if your cat starts limping, you hear their nails tapping on a hard surface as they walk or if they’re licking a particular paw excessively. These are all signs that they might have an ingrown nail.

Due to the risk of infection not to mention your cat being in pain, it’s important to take your cat to the vets to treat if you notice an ingrown nail.

Another week of gorgeous kitties visiting us. Here are some of them for you to enjoy! 😻

02/03/2023

Say hello to sweet boy Cracker 💙.

He had some matted areas which were gently clipped out followed by a good de-shed to remove excess undercoat. This was topped off with a hygiene trim to keep him clean and comfortable. 🙌

Cracker was such a sweet chatty boy. For his first grooming session he did really well and enjoyed lots of fuss along the way. What a handsome boy! 😻😽

01/03/2023

What can we say about Digby, he just loves fuss and even more fuss. 😻🧡

He’s so good at distracting us it’s any wonder we get through the grooming session! 😂

We managed to complete his groom though and got rid of so much fluff! Digby thought he deserved more attention for being such a good boy and looking so handsome 💙😽

Adorable Anthony, a regular at the salon came in for a wet bath 🛁 and groom today.

As Anthony likes to go off exploring 🌳 he was a little grubby and in need of a freshen up! He also had quite a greasy coat and lots of dander (which always shows up more on a black coat) so a wet bath also sorted that out. 🙌✅

Anthony can be a little grumpy at times but was an absolute superstar ⭐️ for his bath today. His coat was so shiny and smooth he went home looking and smelling gorgeous! 😻

Another weekly snapshot of some of the gorgeous kitties we’ve had the pleasure of helping. We are so lucky! 💕

Sweet boy Teddy and all of his floof! 🙀

Teddy’s coat had got quite badly matted as he likes to go out exploring in all weathers! ⛈️

Much of his coat therefore had to be clipped off but we managed to save his fur on his back to keep him warm during the cold weather. 🥶

He was a very patient boy and will now be on a maintenance schedule to ensure his coat withstands all weathers!

Petite Purdey made her debut at the salon recently. 🐈‍⬛

She was booked in by her loving mummy 💕 as she had a few small mats which needed attending to.

We then gave her a good de-shed and it was like a gift 🎁 that kept giving. We couldn’t believe that so much fluff could come from one little girl, neither could her mummy! 🙀

This was Purdey’s first time being groomed and she is such a sweet girl. We’re already looking forward to seeing her again! 😻

Beautiful Penny after her wet bath 🛁 and groom today.

She is such a sweet chatty girl and wanted to tell me all about her day, or at least that’s what I thought she was telling me! 😂😺

She had a lot of dead undercoat which needed removing so she went home a lot lighter and smelling lovely and fresh! 😻

📝 Educational post 📝

Let’s talk about ticks! 🙀
‼️ Make sure you’ve had dinner before reading ‼️

We had a client visit us today and while doing an assessment of their cat’s coat, we found a tick. This is the second time we’ve found a tick on a cat in recent weeks.

Ticks are parasites that will feed on your cat’s blood 🩸. They look a little like a small spider and can often be found in fields and woodland where there is long grass.

It’s important that if found on your cat, they are removed immediately as they can carry nasty bacteria which can amongst other things cause Lyme disease.

It’s also important that they are removed correctly using a tick remover, NEVER pull, crush or squeeze them. The link below will take you to a helpful page on the Blue Cross website with further information on cat ticks and a video showing how to remove them. ✅

https://www.bluecross.org.uk/advice/cat/cats-and-ticks?

Fortunately, we were able to show the owner how to remove the tick correctly today. 🙌

Some flea spot on treatments also cover ticks but it’s always wise to have a chat with your vet if you’re unsure.

Fluffy by name and certainly one fluffy cat! 🙀

This handsome boy had a full dry groom which meant a full de-shed of his coat, a manicure 💅 and pedicure and eyes and ear clean. This was all topped off with a hygiene trim as he was rather ‘fluffy’ in that area! 😳

Fluffy was quite a nervous boy having never been to the groomers before and was therefore a little grumpy 😾. However, he is really a sweet boy and it was lovely to see him relax during his grooming session and stretch out when we needed him to. 🙌✅💙

Having removed a few mats, Fluffy will now be a regular visitor to the salon to give him a helping hand with his thick coat. See you again handsome. 😻
