How to care for your dog’s paws in the cold weather! ❄️🐾
Studies have shown that dogs have some amazing adaptations to keep warm and to prevent their paws from freezing in cold conditions.
There are some extra steps you can take as a dog owner to care for their paws throughout the winter.
Grit and Salt - this is used on roads and pavements to prevent ice. Grit and salt can sometimes be irritating to your dog’s paws and can make the skin become dry, cracked and sore. We recommend rinsing their paws and drying them with a towel after each walk. Paw butter or paw balm can also be applied afterwards to prevent cracking.
Snow - this can collect and ball up between your dog’s toes. This making it uncomfortable to walk. Keeping fur trim between toes can help prevent this build up.
You could always consider getting your dog a set of boots to wear during icy/snowy weather.
