When pets have diarrhoea, it’s easy to assume antibiotics are needed - but in most cases, it’s not caused by a bacterial infection.

Diet changes, stress, parasites, or underlying health conditions are often to blame.

Using antibiotics unnecessarily can disrupt your pet’s natural gut bacteria, which play a vital role in digestion and immunity. It can also contribute to antimicrobial resistance, making future infections harder to treat.

✅ Seek your vet’s advice on the best course of action

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on one of the leading health concerns affecting our beloved pets. With one in four dogs and one in five cats developing cancer during their lifetime, early detection is key. Keep an eye out for signs such as unexplained lumps, weight loss, changes in appetite, or unusual behaviour. If you notice anything concerning, don’t wait: book a check-up with your vet. A timely visit could make all the difference in ensuring your pet gets the care they need.

Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) is a common condition in cats. Many people are surprised to learn that it’s usually not caused by a bacterial infection.

Instead, stress is often the main trigger. That means antibiotics aren’t always the right treatment - and using them unnecessarily can contribute to antimicrobial resistance.

World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week
18th - 24th November

Kennel cough is a common respiratory illness in dogs -but did you know it’s usually caused by a virus, not a bacterial infection?
That means antibiotics often aren’t needed and won’t
help your dog recover faster.
✅ Speak to your vet about the best care
✅ Rest, hydration, and monitoring are key
✅ Avoid walks to prevent spread to other dogs

🦠 World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week 🦠

Antibiotics are powerful tools - but when used incorrectly, bacteria can become resistant, meaning infections become more challenging to treat. Antibiotic resistant bacteria are an increasing problem worldwide, affecting both human and animal health.

Stay tuned for our upcoming posts. Throughout this week, we’ll share some important insights into antimicrobial resistance; what it is, why it matters, and how we can all help to protect the effectiveness of antibiotics. 💊

each other and with humans. From excited ‘wheeks’ when they hear food coming, to low rumbles that
signal dominance, and even teeth chattering when they’re annoyed... these little pets have a lot to say!

Today is World Diabetes Day. Just like us, our furry friends can develop diabetes - and the sooner it’s spotted, the better it can be managed. Common signs of diabetes in pets include:

💧 Increased thirst
💛 Increased urination
⚖️ Weight loss
🐾 Appetite changes

If you’ve noticed any of these changes in your pet, it’s always worth getting them checked for peace of mind.

🎆 Fireworks and fear: Lulu’s story 🎆
“Lulu is terrified of fireworks. During lockdown, there were so many I genuinely thought she might have a heart attack. I believed I'd tried everything. I never thought my vet could help, but last year, I mentioned it during a visit and was given something to apply to Lulu’s gums. It worked. She’s 13 now, and I feel awful knowing she suffered for so long because I didn’t ask sooner.”

If your dog struggles with fireworks, you're not alone - and there are ways
we can help. From calming products to tailored advice, your vet can offer
support to make firework season less stressful for your pet.
