Pawfect Holidog Services

Pawfect Holidog Services Dog home boarding throughout central Scotland. West Lothian Council Licence Number 10779

The inspiration for Pawfect Holidogs came from personal experience, having used traditional kennel facilities for our beloved family dogs over the years and seeing how they did not cope within the environment they provide. By chance when out walking one day we came across a wonderful woman called Lorraine who offered something a little different which was dog home boarding. Our dogs thrived in the

homely environment Lorraine was providing; as they were being treated just as they would if they were in their own home. We as a family were finally able to go away and leave our dogs without any worries as to how they were in our absence. Long gone was the guilt as we left the pooches at the kennel who were giving us the saddest faces they could possibly pull! Pawfect Holidogs Arlene grew up with dogs, and has cared for many friends and familyโ€™s dogs over the years. Seeing how content dogs can be in a home environment when with her instead of being in a kennel was extremely rewarding and so she decided, after many happy years with Lorraine who retired to go live her best life, that she would like to provide this service herself. Leaving your four-legged bestie with anyone is a little like leaving the baby with the babysitter so being able to drop your pooch off on his/her own holiday while you go yours is the next best thing. What dog wouldnโ€™t want to make lots of new friends at the park, and receive an abundance of love, attention and hugs from there new temporary family! As a family we have 2 dogs of our own, Luna who is a 4 year old Springer Spaniel and Oliver, a 2 year old Westie, but let's not forget about the boss Sol, the resident cat! The human family is Mum (aka Arlene) and her two kids who seem to have inherited Mums love for all things cute and fluffy. All potential boarders are asked to come along to our home for a โ€œsniffing outโ€ meeting, this ensures both the resident pets and boarders are happy to be friends ๐Ÿ˜Š
We have the perfect semi-rural location in West Lothian with lots and lots of fields, woods, and country parks to explore. We have a fully enclosed garden where your dog can just chill out in between play time and walks. We are licenced with our local authority and fully insured allowing us to offer the best dog boarding service we can. Whilst boarding, your pooch will send up-dates of all the fun he/she is having via the Pawfect Holidog page and/or whatsapp, but not too many or you may be jealous of all the fun and attention!

Like most of you, we often get little video clip suggestions from FB and this last few days there have been some quite distressing of dogs worrying and or attacking sheep, one person even argued it is not the law, which is incorrect.

I found these videos very upsetting so I won't share here however, I thought I would share some info I found off of the National Sheep Associations website to help spread awareness.

Here at Pawfect HQ we are on a working farm and take every precaution to ensure dogs are kept on a lead and away from livestock at all times.

PLEASE PLEASE KEEP DOGS ON LEADS NEAR LIVESTOCK ๐Ÿ™

"It is every dogโ€™s instinct to chase, even if they are usually obedient and good with other animals.

Chasing by dogs can do serious damage to sheep, even if the dog doesnโ€™t catch them. The stress of worrying by dogs can cause sheep to die and pregnant ewes to miscarry their lambs.

Sheep fleeing from dogs are often killed or seriously injured by their panicked attempts to escape, causing untold damage to fences and field boundaries in the process.

Dogs chasing ewes and lambs can cause mis-mothering issues, with lambs dying from starvation or hypothermia when they become separated from their mother and fail to find her again.

Dog bites can cause death in sheep or necessitate them being put down at a later date, or in less severe cases considerable veterinary bills and additional welfare issues as a result of flies being attracted to the blood and leading to a nasty health problem in sheep called โ€˜fly strikeโ€™. Injuries to sheep can also delay the normal farming routine, be it the mating season or administration of vital medicines and vaccines.

Then there are the direct emotional and mental health consequences on the farmer/s (and usually their families) involved. All this costs money and time so any detriment to the sheep also harm the farmerโ€™s livelihood. UK farmers work to some of the highest standards of health and welfare and are bound by legal rules and regulations to ensure standards are maintained. In addition to the issues raised above, sheep worrying is extremely frustrating for the farmer as all their hard work, time and investment can be undone in one action, completely out of their control.
It is a criminal offence to allow a dog to worry sheep. Worrying includes attacking or chasing sheep and, in some circumstances, farmers are legally entitled to shoot dogs if they are endangering their sheep.

It is vital you keep your dog on the lead around sheep, even if you can usually trust it to come to call. If you live in or near a farming area, you must make sure your dog cannot escape from your property, as it may find its way onto land containing sheep.
