Pet Poisons Month! 🌸🐰🌷
Spring is a great time for gardening, but garden bulbs 💐can be poisonous to our pets, so please take care if pets are assisting with the gardening!

Snowdrops, bluebells, daffodils (narcissus), hyacinths, tulips, irises and crocuses can be harmful. Plant bulbs contain harmful alkaloids which are most concentrated in the centre of the bulb, however in some plants, ingesting any part of the plant can be harmful.

Please contact us if you think your pet may have eaten anything they shouldn't have!

CATTERY CLOSURE

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts with local media, and other organisations, no viable options for the cattery have been forthcoming.

As you can appreciate , currently we can no longer support social services/ Police/ RSPCA / vets with cat rescues or feral cats off the street as we no longer have an emergency holding area.

Pet Poisons Month! 🌸🐰🌷
Adders🐍 can wake from hibernation in the Spring, but can be poisonous to our pets in the unlikely event they bite them!
They are the only poisonous snake in the UK and wake from hibernation as the weather gets warmer. They tend to bite pets on the legs, head or neck. Bites can cause rapid painful swelling and bruising. Bites can be dry (no venom) or venomous. If venom is injected, lethargy, vomiting, collapse, pale gums, drooling bleeding and abnormal heart rhythms can be seen.
Please contact us if you think your pet may have been bitten as treatment is needed promptly!

Mouldy food 🗑from compost or bins can be poisonous to our pets! They contain mycotoxins which are deadly to dogs and cats. Always keep bins secure and compost heaps out of the way of pets. Take extra care on walks if dogs are known to be scavengers.

Lilies 🌺are a very pretty flower in the Spring, but can be poisonous to our pets!
Many indoor and outdoor plants can be poisonous to pets if eaten. Pets can chew small flowers, pollen, leaves, roots or bulbs, which are toxic.

Lilies are particularly toxic to cats and can often ingest them by grooming the pollen from their coat if the brush against the plant. However, any part of the plant can be toxic if ingested and cam cause quick and fatal kidney failure.

Dried fruit is found in many Easter treats🍇, but can be poisonous to our pets!
The toxic dose for dried fruit and grapes has not been determined. But we do know these toxins can have negative effects on the kidneys. Therefore, its always best to act with caution and seek veterinary advice if ingested.

Chocolate🍫is a popular treat around Easter time, but can be poisonous to our pets!

The higher the cocoa content, the more dangerous the chocolate. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine which are toxic to our pets as their body's cant deal with them like ours can.

We have had a young male black and white cat/kitten approx. 4 months old presented to the clinic with no microchip. He is receiving medical treatment but due to an injury, will require further treatment. He was found in Old Town Beaconsfield. During we are talking about dental problems in dogs and cats. Periodontal disease occurs when the tissues that surround teeth become infected and inflamed. Bacterial plaque build-up on the teeth causes inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) if not removed. Over time, infection and inflammation spread deeper into the tooth sockets, destroying the bone around the tooth roots – meaning teeth may need to be extracted (if they haven’t already fallen out!).

The good news is that plaque can be removed with daily dental home care, and gingivitis can be reversed if caught early. Speak to us about the best dental care regime for your pet to help keep their teeth clean and healthy!
