I'm Kate Stone, the heart and soul behind KSK9 Dog Training. 🐶

With nearly 18 years of experience working closely with our beloved furry companions, my journey in the world of dog training has been guided by a lifelong love for dogs and a deep commitment to a more compassionate approach. My family have always owned Border Collies and have been a cherished part of my life since my earliest memorie

s. I grew up in a household where these intelligent and loyal canines weren't just pets; they were cherished family members. It was during these formative years that I witnessed the incredible bond that can exist between humans and dogs, igniting a passion in me to find a kinder, more effective way to communicate and connect with our four-legged friends.

👨‍👧‍👦 My upbringing was marked by a contrast in dog-handling philosophies. While my father had a more traditional, heavy-handed approach, my belief in a gentler, more empathetic style of training began to take shape. What truly sets me apart is my unique ability to understand and interpret canine behaviour. I've worked with numerous challenging dogs, including my own companion, Flynt, in 2010. My approach is firmly rooted in positive reinforcement, but it's essential to emphasise that this doesn't make me a pushover. I firmly believe in providing clear and consistent guidance to dogs, helping them understand what's expected while building a foundation of trust and respect.

🏡 From adopting Flynt, this experience opened the door to a collaboration with Border Collie Rescue in Yorkshire, where I dedicated my time to assisting these intelligent and loving dogs in finding their forever homes.

👂 I've had the privilege of working alongside hearing dogs for deaf individuals, where I learned the importance of effective communication, patience, and the incredible impact of positive reinforcement. This experience deepened my appreciation for the remarkable abilities of our canine companions in improving the lives of their owners.

🏨 For three rewarding years, I worked in a boarding kennel, gaining valuable insights into the diverse needs and behaviours of dogs in various environments.

📚 On the academic front, I've invested in my passion by earning a Level 4 Diploma in Canine Management and Behaviour. Currently, I'm actively pursuing my Level 5 Diploma, continuously expanding my knowledge and honing my skills.

🏡 Most recently, I welcomed a spirited 6-month-old Border Collie into my life. He joined my family after coming from a loving home that needed some assistance with training and day-to-day life. This little bundle of energy keeps me on my toes, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

🤝 My commitment to Border Collie Rescue remains unwavering. I offer my expertise in home visits and support whenever needed because I firmly believe that every dog deserves a chance at a better life.

Thrilled to introduce a new client, Charlie, who's been with Dianne for 3 weeks now. This lovable and energetic little chap is thriving under Dianne's care, enjoying plenty of walks, love, and attention.

Our focus has been on improving Charlie's recall, and I'm delighted to say that we've made significant progress. In our first session, Charlie was already responding brilliantly off the lead, showing his affection and responsiveness towards Dianne.

Despite facing some difficult times recently, Dianne and Charlie's progress is truly inspiring. It's a joy to witness their growing bond and to support them on this journey. Their commitment to training is commendable, and I'm excited to see their continued development. Working with them has been a rewarding experience, and I look forward to more achievements in the future. Here's to Dianne and Charlie's bright path ahead! 🐾💫

2024 update -

This post was made two years ago and has recently been getting attention again. The sad thing is that actually nothing has changed. This program is still being made. There is ( as far as I know - and very happy to be corrected if I am wrong) no veterinary involvement with these dogs prior to filming.

How many more dogs are going to be labled as awkward, difficult, stubborn or just lazy when actually there is an underlying pain issue?

We have so many wonderful trainers and behaviourists that could fill this man’s shoes and provide far more valuable advice and training. Stop giving people like this man air time… pick someone who actually cares about the wellbeing of the dogs they work with instead of the cash going to line their pockets…

-

Some phrases used on this particular episode of ‘Dogs behaving (very) badly’ where 8 year old Ruby would only get off the sofa if the rug was over the laminate flooring, and would sit down and stop on walks…

‘being a madam’

‘Controlling the diva’

‘Indulging her with rugs’

‘Thinks she’s in charge’

OR

Is this actually a dog in pain, a dog scared of slipping and hurting, a dog trying to tell everyone that she’s uncomfortable?

It’s not indulging her with a rug, it’s making sure her own home is accessible and safe for her. She’s not ‘being a diva’ and refusing to walk, she’s telling you it hurts and she’s uncomfortable.

I’m very glad that the owners realise that this dogs weight is having a significant impact on her life but there are other things that need addressing here. I have no doubt they absolutely adore their girl, that is very clear to see, but I desperately wish they had the right kind of support for Ruby, not just let’s force her to walk and walk on a floor she’s is scared

Dogs Behaving Very Badly and The Dogfather (Graham Hall)… I’m afraid the blame falls to you on this occasion. You have a massive platform with thousands of dog owners watching every episode. How about talking about signs of pain? Indicators of discomfort? When behaviours actually tell us somethings wrong? Ways to adapt houses for older dogs and those that struggle with mobility? You could educate SO MANY owners but no, it doesn’t happen. Instead we just see an uncomfortable dog being forced to walk when she doesn’t want to, and live in an environment that she is scared of.

Dogs need us to advocate for them, to realise when we need to do more and to learn the ways that they tell us something isn’t right. Owner education is the key to this and this could have been a brilliant opportunity to do just that.
