April's dog of the month has to be the gorgeous Labradoodle Stanley.
This boy is just such a beaut, his hooman mum and dad rehomed him from Doodle Trust and I met them not long after this had happened, introduced myself, and the rest is history. Stanley and I have developed such a lovely and deep love for each other and he gets so excited when my name is mentioned at home. He is such a big clumsy boy but this just makes me love him even more. If I had the room then Stanley is definitely a dog I would find hard to give back to his owners

March dog of the month is Hazel. Why you ask. No reason other than she is just a beautiful girl inside and out and I love her so much, well no more than I love all of your pooches. Hazel has been coming to me since a tiny pup and just cracks me up everytime. As her mum and I said today if she wore glasses she would be looking over the top of them with such expression, she definitely is a dog whose eyes say it all 🤣🤣❤️🐶❤️🐶 oh and hello spring, lovely to see the sun shining today and long may it continue 👏👏

February's dog of the month has to be beautiful Poppy. Poor girl has had some real health issues over the past couple of years ending up with her being diagnosed with diabetes and very quickly loosing her sight but that hasn't changed the beautiful soul that she is and her sense of smell is amazing if I am walking over the park and she is there she picks up on my smell and drags her mum to see me❤️❤️
Having the privilege of being Poppy's groomer just reiterates to me how essential it is for a groomer to have a good relationship with a dog. She is as comfortable coming to see me now as she was when she had full sight. We do everything as a routine so she knows exactly what comes next in her pamper session and I always make sure we have time for cuddles and fun before she is picked up.
Thank you Poppy for giving me as much love as I give you 😘😘

Can I introduce you to Princess Megan ❤️😄

This beautiful little girl has been coming to me for grooming for four and a half years now and our trip together has not, at times, been easy. Coming to me from other groomers who had, maybe, not the same empathy for the job as I have, and not shown her as much love and patience that she needed. She hated the grooming process, cried all the way through being dried, hated the sight, let alone the touch of a brush and her pain threshold was zero.
Fast forward four and a half years this little lady skips out of the car and runs across to me, gets into the bath herself and loves being pampered and now we have a haircut to be proud of, lovely fluffy fur, beautiful floffy ears and she, and I, are so proud of how she looks now.
Every once in a while I do have a proud moment and pat myself on the back and Princess Megan is definitely my first one of 2024. Together, slowly and surely, we have built trust and regained confidence and she makes me feel so proud when I see her running to see me and then, after groom, skipping down the path with mum proudly showing off her new hair do ❤️🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶

Happy New Year to you all.
Going forward there are two push bells either side of the gate. Please could you push one of these on arrival and I will open the gate and take your dog from you and then on collection please ring again and I will bring your dog out to you.
Since moving back in after our extension I now have no way of keeping my dogs separate if they are in the garden so I have to keep the gate locked for their safety.

Many thanks for your cooperation and I look forward to seeing you all soon 🐶🐶

Just a dog.
From time to time people tell me “chill out, it’s just a dog” or “it’s a lot of money just for a dog.” They don't understand the distance traveled, the time invested, or the costs incurred by "just a dog".
Some of my proudest moments have occurred with “just a dog.”
Many hours have passed being my only company "just a dog", but not for one moment did I feel despised. Some of my saddest moments have been because of “just a dog,” and on those gray days, the gentle touch of “just a Dog” gave me comfort and the reason to get through the day.
If you also think “it’s just a dog”, then you’ll probably understand phrases like “just a friend”, “just a sunrise” or “just a promise.” “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
For "just a dog" I will get up early, take long walks and look forward to the future. So for me and people like me, it’s not “just a dog,” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the memories of the past, and the absolute joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out the good in me and takes my thoughts away from myself and daily worries.
I hope one day they can understand that it’s not “just a dog”, but the one that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile because they “just don’t get it”.

Unfortunately we only have to look around us and notice the councils lack of grass cutting and them preferring to use the phrase "we are leaving it as its good for the insect population" rather than we are saving money.

This is a photo of grass seeds that I have removed from ONE dog this afternoon!!!
They are nasty spiteful things and so dangerous if they pe*****te your dogs skin and I can bet my bottom dollar the council won't pay anyones vet bills for the removal of these so please be vigilant and check your dog all over after walks especially ears and between toes.

20/06/2023

This has just been posted by a vet. Please be vigilant as grass seeds are so very painful and nasty

Dreaded grass seeds!

I ve just come back from a run (no animals - way too hot!) and thought between two fingers was scratchy - pulled out this grass seed already well embedded in my skin 😬

It’s peak grass seed season now in the UK.
And dogs in particular are very prone to picking these up on walks and then the seed burrowing between the hairs of the coat then into the skin. They re shaped like arrows and the barbed tail makes it almost impossible for them to move backwards - so they keep moving forward, further and further under the skin and into it between tissues.
This triggers an inflammatory response by the body and depending whether they took bacteria or other bugs in with them, an infection too.
They can be really painful and hard to find and remove.

Symptoms your dog may develop:

Sudden on set licking or chewing a foot or body part
Head shaking or sneezing if they get into the ear or nose.
Pain. This might be lameness / not using a foot or not wanting to be touched or even marked self defence when you approach or try to touch eg growling or snapping

How to prevent them:

Avoid longer grassy areas on every walk right now. Grass is going to seed and whilst not all grass seeds are barbed like this, there will be some lurking on there somewhere, and little seeds still get in ears and eyes and trigger inflammation and infection.

If your dog has any thing other than a very short, flat coat of hair, clip or trim the hair shorter as much as possible …. Particularly around the legs and paws. This makes it harder for the grass seed to get caught (but note I don’t have hairy fingers and yet I still got one!) … shorter hair is also easier to check after a walk

Check your dog thoroughly during and after every walk … check particularly but not only, between toes and foot pads, use a light brushing action with your fingers to make sure you dislodge any dirt or plant material away from the hair.

If possible, give them a good brush over their whole body after each walk where you passed near grass.

If you suspect your dog may have a grass seed, get them checked by a vet asap …. Don’t wait!!
The longer the seed is present the further they move into the body and the harder they are to find.
Be prepared that the vet may need to sedate your dog and use ultrasound to track the path of the seed and place local anaesthetic to numb skin and tissues to make cuts to try to fish the seed out.

This can be expensive as it’s a lot of time and effort on some cases. Prevention is way preferable to cure!

This time last year I remember a Saturday I worked where I had to admit 5 dogs to sedate and track seeds and surgically remove them - 5 on one day!! (Amongst a busy day of consulting too)

Make some plans, knows the risks and take action to lower those risks.

Stay safe and enjoy the summer 😊

PLEASE READ

Work on our extension has now started so rather than coming straight in my side gate a bell push has been fitted. If I am not there waiting for you please could you ring the bell and I will come out to you and take your dog from you. This will save you and your dog walking straight into noise and workmen and maybe falling down a big hole and your dog, maybe, getting stressed. Thank you for your cooperation.

“It’s Just A Dog”

From time to time people tell me “relax, it’s just a dog” or “it’s a lot of money just for a dog.” They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time invested or the costs incurred by “just a dog.” Some of my proudest moments happened with “just a dog.”
