Did you know that dogs see colour differently to us humans? 🌈

Dogs have something called dichromatic vision - that’s why we always try to build, paint and buy our equipment in yellows, blues and purples which are the easiest for dogs to see against the green grass! 💛💙💜

Reds, oranges and pinks are viewed by dogs as murky greens and browns so it’s thought it can make training and play more difficult for them when they’re using equipment in these colours on grass! ❤️🧡💖

The difference in our colour perception is down to the number of photoreceptor cells called cones we have; typically humans have 3 types, while dogs only have 2! Check out the second photo to see an example of how your dog sees different colours, how fascinating is that! 👁

Obligatory baby bump photo incoming! 🤰🏼

You may have noticed we’ve been quite a bit quieter than usual on social media over the last few months, it’s been a tiring few months to say the least but all for a good reason as I’m expecting a baby in just over 3 weeks time! 👶🏼

It hasn’t been the easiest of pregnancies so thank you all so much for bearing with me, I’m very lucky to have some wonderful people in my life who have been keeping on top of the grass cutting and any other work that needed doing as I haven’t been able to myself.

I just wanted to let you all know that it will certainly be business as usual and you will still be able to contact me in all the usual ways!

Especially as baby Four Paws is joining us soon, I’d really like to take this opportunity to thank you all more than ever for your support over the last few months. As a small business, all your visits, recommendations and social media shares really do mean the world ☺️

📣 New equipment update! 📣

If you visited us today, you may have seen a couple of new pieces of equipment - a wobble board and a long jump! As you know, we love to make sure your dogs have plenty of opportunities for enrichment and mental stimulation during their sessions, so have a read below for some extra inspiration for your next visit!

If you haven’t seen one before, wobble boards are a brilliant bit of kit for building confidence, strength, motor-skills and of course the bond between you and your dog! You can try lots of different cues with the wobble board, such as 2 or 4 paws on, sit, stand and down, plus so many more! The way in which the wobble board moves really encourages your dog to engage their minds and bodies in a way that they wouldn’t usually experience, plus it’s a perfect opportunity for an adorable photo to show off their skills 😉

The best thing about the long jump is that you can make it as short or long as you like! Each separate jump fits inside the other so you can take away, move or add jumps as you please to suit your dog (don’t forget to put the jumps back together for the next visitor though!). Starting with the smallest jump is best, then add jumps and distance as you go. Another brilliant way to stimulate your dogs brain and have fun at the same time!

As with any equipment and training, remember to always start small then build up slowly and at your dogs pace. Make sure the equipment is suitable for your dog and of course, don’t forget the tasty treats 🍗😋!

We can’t wait to see some action shots of your dogs having fun with the new equipment - don’t forget to tag us in your awesome photos and videos! 📸

Well it definitely feels like spring has arrived here in Bedfordshire so what a perfect time to bring you a spring update! 🌼

This lockdown has definitely been a tough one but I think we’re all glad to see the sun finally shining and the temperatures reaching a very pleasant 21°C this week! 🌞

I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that the ground has almost fully dried out at the playground and the grass is growing back quickly. We have the first cut of the year planned for next week which will encourage even more growth and we're hoping the patchy areas of grass should be fully recovered in the next 2-3 weeks 🌱

We will be pressure washing all the equipment once the patchy areas have grown back, hopefully in around 3 weeks time. Unfortunately we can't do this before that point as we need the grass to recover first to stop the equipment from getting muddy straight away again! 🐾

The ground condition also meant we had to put some non-essential maintenance on hold, but thankfully we can now go ahead with those plans and get everything looking fresh for spring!

Thank you so much to everyone who visited us over winter despite the conditions. It certainly was the wettest winter we've seen in the 4 years we've been open, but I’m very glad you can all start to enjoy a much drier, greener and cleaner Four Paws Adventure Academy!

I hope you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend and manage to enjoy some of this beautiful weather! ☀️

17/01/2021

Bailing out rain water from the sand pit in the dark isn’t exactly an average Saturday night but when the last month has given us the most rain I’ve seen since we opened in 2017, needs must!

I’m sure you’re all aware that Bedfordshire has seen an unusually large amount of rainfall over the last month or so (along with a lot of the UK), which our grass hasn’t been too happy about! It’s meant that we’ve seen muddy conditions at the playground this winter that we normally manage to avoid.

I’m very lucky that the playground has still remained perfectly usable, despite how many fields and walking spots in the local area have suffered terrible flooding and an excessive amount of mud. But we’re still seeing more mud at the playground than I’m used to which can be very disheartening, especially when looking back at the beautiful photos from spring, summer and autumn last year.

I know as dog owners you’re all used to throwing on your wellies and expecting muddy boots and paws by now, but I just wanted to say a massive thank you for still visiting despite the playground not looking its best - as a small business, it really means the world.

The grass at the playground is extremely hardy and grows thick and fast once the temperature begins to increase, so it’ll only be a few weeks before it starts getting back to its usual condition. Once the ground has hardened more and the grass is starting to grow, that’s when we dig out the pressure washer and get all the equipment looking shiny and new again! ✨

So thank you so much for bearing with these muddy conditions, I’m sure you’re all looking forward to warmer temperatures as much as I am!

P.s. The sand pit is back to its former glory after we drained it and added fresh sand last night but we will be keeping an eye on it whilst the ground is still wet.

A very belated message for the festive season and a very big thank you from me!

I took a short break from technology just before Christmas but I thought it was better late than never to send seasons greetings to you all!

What a turbulent year it’s been for everyone and I know we’re all wishing for a very different 2021. However, one thing I can say is how incredibly thankful I am to everyone who has supported Four Paws Adventure Academy throughout this year; whether you’ve visited, posted on social media, recommended us to a friend or bought a gift voucher - thank you from the bottom of my heart. It brings me so much happiness knowing I have the most wonderful customers that I could possibly wish for.

I’m so pleased we’ve still managed to build new equipment and a parking area this year and with more equipment on the way, I’m more excited than ever for the playground in 2021.

I hope you all had a lovely holiday period despite the circumstances and managed to find some peace after such a difficult few months. Sending you and your family my love and very best wishes for the new year.

Following the Government’s announcement this evening regarding Bedfordshire moving into Tier 4, I would just like to confirm that we are still open as usual for bookings complying with Government rules.

New Tier 4 rules are as follows from Sunday 20th December 2020: People can visit public outdoor places, such as parks. Outdoors, you can only meet one person from another household.

Most of our customers are local, however if you are travelling from further afield; Government rules state that you must not travel to a Tier 4 area if you are in a Tier 1, 2 or 3 area, so please check before booking a visit.

We continue to provide hand sanitiser for everyone, please do make use of this before, during and after your visits.

As always, if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 or have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace, please do not visit Four Paws Adventure Academy and we ask you to follow Government rules on when you are able to end self-isolation.

If you have any questions, please do contact me.

Sending you all my best wishes as we plan a very different festive period this year. As always, thank you all so much for your endless support.
