⚠️Today is PET THEFT AWARENESS day⚠️
Although we all know today as Valentines day, it is also Pet Theft awareness day, a day to encourage owners to consider preventative measures that can be taken to keep their beloved pets safe.

Following simple steps can ensure you dog is as safe as possible:
❗️Microchip your dog and cat and keep your contact details up-to-date so swift contact can be made in the event of your lost pet being found.
❗️Neutered dogs are less likely to be stolen as they can not be used by potential breeders.
❗️Ensure your dog has a visible id tag stating that they are microchipped and neutered.
❗️Don’t leave your dog outside a shop or supermarket.
❗️Don’t let your dog out of sight during exercise. A dog with appropriate training and recall are less likely to wander off or be stolen.
❗️Don’t leave your dog unattended in a vehicle. Whilst this is important for health concerns in hot or cold weather, a dog can easily be stolen when left alone in a vehicle too.
❗️Make sure your garden, house and outside kennels are secure and garden fences are high enough to prevent you dog escaping.
❗️Check gates and lighting are working effectively.
❗️Be careful who can see your pet’s photos on social media.
❗️Change your routine regularly.

MissChif and Reiki - A few months ago I decided to find out a little more about Reiki and the positive effects it can have on animals, dogs in particular of course! I was looking to offer MissChif (12 years old) something beneficial and therapeutic, but non invasive, and was delighted to enrol the expertise of Trish Smith, an Animal and Equine Reiki Master Practitioner (UGO Healing), to take us on a little Reiki journey.

MissChif is a beautiful and kind dog, although a little quirky, who has needed extra special care and support over the years. She’s well mannered, but is disinterested in strangers and, whilst compliant, can be somewhat of a fidget when it comes to Vet visits! With this in mind, I thought this may put Trish to the test, as MissChif was unlikely to embrace this attention. However, that couldn’t have been further from the truth!

Trish engaged MissChif with distant Reiki initially and when it came to an ‘in person’ session, Trish visited our home and met MissChif for the first time. She greeted Trish like she was a long lost friend, which fascinated me, and she quickly settled at Trish’s feet, enjoying some hands on affection. During this session MissChif completely relaxed, choosing to lay flat out about a metre from Trish. As Trish moved closer, MissChif reached out and touched Trish’s hand with her paw, inviting Trish to take it. Paw embraced, this continued for the next 30 minutes or so, MissChif enjoying every moment. We have since had a further ‘in person’ session, which Shadow chose to muscle in on, and absolutely enjoyed. The delight and enjoyment these rejuvenating sessions bring are clear – thank you Trish.

Really - Really proud that our Pets as Therapy veteran Shadow has now been joined by younger sister Folly, as she also recently passed her PAT qualification. Folly loves people so much whether young children or the elderly, we are confident her personality will be used to great effect.
