Paris 2024 was amazing! We visited lots of areas in Paris and watched wonderful dressage in the stunning surrounds of Versailles. We saw the GB women's hockey team win their match and celebrated a win in the football 1/4 finals with the mad Morocco football fans! It was very hot, we walked miles, enjoyed great coffee and patisseries and loved the whole experience. Back to normal life now, feeling inspired by all the talented Olympic athletes and enjoying the rest of the Olympics on the TV.

BIOSECURITY UPDATE
At Thurleigh Equestrian Centre, the health and safety of our horses and riders are our top priorities. As there has been a recent increase in outbreaks of Equine Influenza and Strangles, to ensure the health and wellbeing of our horses we will be implementing stricter biosecurity measures and kindly ask for your cooperation.

If you have contact with horses outside of Thurleigh Equestrian Centre—whether you ride elsewhere, share or own a horse at another location, or visit and interact with other horses or stable yards, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

🐴Change Your Clothing: Please do not visit us in the same clothing you wore when interacting with other horses. All clothing must be washed before coming to our facility, particularly your gloves.

🐴 Change or sanitise Boots: Please ensure that your boots are changed or thoroughly sanitised to prevent the transfer of any potential pathogens.

These measures are crucial for preventing the spread of equine diseases and infections, and for keeping our horses safe and protected.

If you have any questions or require further information regarding these biosecurity measures, please do speak to Beth or Katie or get in touch.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your continued support in keeping our horses safe!

Further information about equine infectious disease can be found at https://www.facebook.com/EquineInfectiousDiseaseSurveillance

We said goodbye to Henry the mechanical horse last week. I don't think he wanted to leave as it took two of us and the help of a ramp and crowbar to get him back into his trailer! 😂 It's been great having him to stay and he has really helped our riders to improve their riding position and balance. Many thanks to for letting us use him, hopefully he will be back with us again.

Tally having his teeth checked by Kieran from . During his routine dental check, Gemma English Equine Dental Services spotted that he may have a cavity in one of his molars, so Kieran came to see what could be done and confirmed that Tally needs to have a filling. Thankfully this got picked up before any more damage occurred, which is why we are so grateful to Gemma's skills and her routine visits and for Kieran's expertise.

We really like this initiative from the BEF. Fair, ethical, kind treatment of the horse is something all of us should have as our main priority. Without the good will of our wonderful school horse's we would be out of business! We feel the same about our brilliant staff too :)

We commit to the ethical and fair treatment of all horses and other equids under our care ❤

Today, we’re uniting with our member bodies and other industry leaders to endorse the highest standards of equine welfare, wellbeing and ethics under a new Charter for the Horse 🤝

The charter outlines the actions we all must observe to meet the mental, physical and behavioural needs of each individual horse, under six headings…
1️⃣ Empathy
2️⃣ Care
3️⃣ Respect
4️⃣ Consideration
5️⃣ Ethics
6️⃣ Learning

CARBON CALCULATOR FOR STABLE YARDS.
It is great to see the launch of a industry specific carbon calculator that can allow yard owners to calculate their carbon footprint, understand more about the impact they are having on the environment and make changes to improve sustainability. We have been looking at ways for the yard to be more sustainable for a few years now. We have changed the type of concentrate feed we give the horses, we source our hay and haylage from our local farm and have changed our bedding to Ethos , a lovely miscanthus bedding that is Carbon Negative. With this toolkit I can now work out what this all means and what more we can do to improve sustainability and reduce our impact on the environment.
For anyone interested, the toolkit is free to use and very easy to navigate:
