RIP Beautiful Rolo. 8 years of you. Sending so much love to Donna and Ashleighβ€οΈβ€οΈπ
Billy's behaviour transformation π€ Billy has a history of pancreatic pain and anxiety and began to become very uncomfortable with grooming. He was put on gabapentin and natural calming aids and we went back to basics with weekly desensitisation. Bills was getting very matted by this point and getting rid of the mats was the first priority. We did discuss vet sedation but thankfully we didn't need it. I do use a belly strap loosely with him this session especially to do his back end as there was mats to remove and I didn't want him sitting on the scissors and getting injured. He's never been comfortable with clippers or trimmers and will only tolerate them on his back at this point so I had to very carefully remove mats with scissors. He's made huge progress from a few months ago. Love him π€πΎ#positivereinforcement #holisticgrooming #behaviourledgrooming #sensitivedog #dogsemotionsmatter
I was devestated to learn about the passing of my biggest most beautiful friend Winnie yesterday π
I've groomed Winnie the Leonberger for 7 years. She was very special. Winnie never was the biggest fan of grooming- the bath and the dry mainly, so her grooms have always be adapted to make her as comfortable as possible and I opted to groom her in her own home early on as she was more relaxed and it was more accommodating to her large size with a walk in shower and tiled utility room.
Winnie was the friendliest girl you could meet and loved nothing more than to cover you in slobbery kisses. She loved a fuss and would nuzzle you with her big head until you stroked her. She was huge in stature but a sensitive girl at heart and wasn't afraid to tell me off if I did something she didn't like (trimming her feet was her biggest issue!) but two seconds later she was covering me in kisses once again.
In the later years as Winnie started struggling with her legs, my helper Chelsea would come and assist me and Winnie truly loved her. Chelsea would help me wash and brush her and feed her cheese while I did the bits she didn't like.
Winnie was very tolerant for brushing and she had a lot of coat to brush! We did a lot of her groom with her lying down, including a sponge bath in the end with her lying on top of towels. She never liked the drier and as she got older I just used a hand held dryer on her.
I opted to clip down her coat for the last 3 grooms and it was definitely the best decision we made for her. She was really struggling with standing for long and had developed a cancerous lump on one of her legs, so it was much more comfortable for her and made drying her quicker and cut down brushing.
Winnie was the most beautiful loving girl and I thank her guardian Ivan for letting us be a part of both of their lives. And thank you to Jemma, Winnie's human sister for introducing us in the first place. Winnie's the biggest dog I've ever groomed and had the biggest he
