The lovely Isla enjoying her K-laser 🥰

Why Class IV laser and how can it help your pet?

K-laser is a non-invasive, pain free modailty that can help to support musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, neurological and medical conditions. Helping to control pain, accelerate tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation, stiffness and swelling.

It works by targeting the body in four therapeutic wavelengths at cellular level

- 660nm wavelength absorbs melanin and increases cellular growth, helping with wound healing management and scar tissue regulation.
- 800nm wavelength helps to increase the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) a molecule used for energy. This promotes a faster healing rate.
- 905nm is the wavelength in which haemoglobin best absorbs light, resulting in increased oxygenation to the cells.
- 970nm wavelength absorbs water molecules turning the energy into heat, by this reaction taking place it opens capillaries and improves tissue perfusion.

Many clients ask us if their dogs are okay to swim in lakes and rivers. Several risks can be posed due to factors such as potential bacterias in the water (please see Bedford Borough’s recent post on the blue-green algae currently in Priory Park). The changes in temperatures of the water, hidden currents or sharp objects.
Swimming in a lake is not hydrotherapy and can cause more harm than good.
Always be alert if your dog does end up in a river, lake or stream🐾

Watson the miniature Labradoodle has been a House of Hydro regular since early 2023. She is always so happy to come in for her sessions with our therapists, always leaving with a big smile on her face feeling very content. Her mum says it’s Watsons favourite part of the week😁

She attends hydrotherapy rehabilitation sessions to support her bilateral hip dysplasia and mild osteoarthritis.
Both of these orthopaedic conditions can cause symptoms such as discomfort and pain, reduced muscle mass, stiffness, decreased exercise tolerance and lameness in gait.

Hydrotherapy has helped to support Watson in building muscle mass surrounding her hip joint, strengthening her hind limbs in a controlled and non-weight bearing environment. Therapeutic exercises and manual massage techniques help to alleviate any compensatory tension and ease any discomfort.

Due to this Watson is able to enjoy activities with the family and keep a comfortable routine. We are so lucky to have all our wonderful patients🐾

House of Hydro

House of Hydro has been brought about by a passion and belief in the benefits of Canine Hydrotherapy. Our aim is to enrich the life of every dog that enters House of Hydro.

Our purpose built 6m x 4m pool, has integrated ramps, both external and internal, together with a resting platform all of which are covered with anti-slip matting. The heated pool creates a relaxing and therapeutic environment for your dog to swim. This non-weight bearing exercise is captured by an underwater camera and displayed on our television screen allowing owners to see the full range of underwater motion of their dog. The recordings made can be shared with your vet if requested.

Here at House of Hydro your dog will be introduced to the water at their own pace and encouraged by the therapist and the owner to build up their confidence.

Buoyance aids and harnesses are provided and will be fitted correctly by the hydrotherapist. This ensures your dog’s experience within our centre is a positive and confident one.
