Why Class IV laser and how can it help your pet?

K-laser is a non-invasive, pain free modailty that can help to support musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, neurological and medical conditions. Helping to control pain, accelerate tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation, stiffness and swelling.

It works by targeting the body in four therapeutic wavelengths at cellular level:

- 660nm wavelength absorbs melanin and increases cellular growth, helping with wound healing management and scar tissue regulation.
- 800nm wavelength helps to increase the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) a molecule used for energy. This promotes a faster healing rate.
- 905nm is the wavelength in which haemoglobin best absorbs light, resulting in increased oxygenation to the cells.
- 970nm wavelength absorbs water molecules turning the energy into heat, by this reaction taking place it opens capillaries and improves tissue perfusion.

You may often notice changes in your dogs coat - such as swirls, waves, or uneven patterns. Did you know these may sometimes be linked to underlying orthopedic, neurological, or musculoskeletal conditions such as hip or elbow dysplasia, arthritis, or nerve impingement. These can alter a dog’s posture, gait, and muscle use, leading to compensatory movement patterns.

These adjustments often affect how skin stretches in the fascia and folds over joints and muscles, which in turn can influence the direction and texture of hair growth. Chronic muscle tension or atrophy may exaggerate natural whorls or create ripples in the coat, particularly over areas like the shoulders, hips, and spine.

While these coat changes are usually harmless, they can be visual indicators of deeper structural or neurological issues, and should be interpreted alongside mobility, behavior, and comfort levels.

One technique we utilise in the hydrotherapy pool is a free sequence swim. This can be in large laps, straight lines or figures of eight all working to increase range of motion and build muscle equally. The pool environment is completely non-weight bearing so there is no pressure placed on joints.

Our underwater treadmill provides a 360 degree viewing angle, allowing our qualified therapists to accurately assess gait and limb sequence.
Specific water levels, speed of belt and duration of exercise target intricate muscle groups relevant to the patients individual condition. We are able to achieve increased muscle mass and a more balanced, stabilised posture on land.

Using ramps or steps for the car or getting onto the sofa at home helps with protecting joints from unnecessary strain and impact, helping in preventing falls or injury. Ensure they are a non-slip surface.

A common condition we see is hip dysplasia, which is an abnormal development of the ball and socket joint. This results in varying degrees of laxity, incongruity and degeneration of the joint over time. Clinically it can present as an abnormal gait, decreased activity levels, stiffness, difficulty in rising, laying or sitting, pain or discomfort and muscular atrophy. Hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and K-laser can help to alleviate and support these symptoms🐾

House of Hydro

House of Hydro has been brought about by a passion and belief in the benefits of Canine Hydrotherapy. Our aim is to enrich the life of every dog that enters House of Hydro.

Our purpose built 6m x 4m pool, has integrated ramps, both external and internal, together with a resting platform all of which are covered with anti-slip matting. The heated pool creates a relaxing and therapeutic environment for your dog to swim. This non-weight bearing exercise is captured by an underwater camera and displayed on our television screen allowing owners to see the full range of underwater motion of their dog. The recordings made can be shared with your vet if requested.

Here at House of Hydro your dog will be introduced to the water at their own pace and encouraged by the therapist and the owner to build up their confidence.

Buoyance aids and harnesses are provided and will be fitted correctly by the hydrotherapist. This ensures your dog’s experience within our centre is a positive and confident one.
