Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in a Veterinary practice as a receptionist?
A typical day at Cedar Grove as a receptionist starts early! The first thing we do before opening our doors to our lovely clients and their pets is check everything is ready. We make sure our consult rooms are fully stocked, ensure all computers are up running and our waiting rooms are tidy, clean, and smelling fresh. Our first clients and pets will then start arriving. Coming to a vets can be nerve wracking sometimes and we understand that so we try our best to put our clients and pets at ease. We weigh the pet if it is appropriate to do so and catch up with how they are, both pets and people, many of our clients we know really well, it is like greeting old friends! Our phone lines open at 8.30am with the phones ringing immediately, it is at this point we now start to multitask and the receptionists really start to showcase their plate spinning, amazing multi-tasking skills! Through the morning we will be helping our clients both over the phone and in person, checking and giving out medications and prescriptions, taking payments, booking appointments and surgeries, and liaising our clinical teams to pass information on. Appointments we see can range from routine health checks and vaccinations, poorly pets with eye/ear/tummy issues, wounds and lumps through to pet's who are struggling with their mobility, there is so much help we can offer! Within these booked appointments we will also see emergency cases such as road accidents, ingestion of toxic substances, sudden injuries, all of which need dealing with immediately so our fantastic reception team need to be constantly on top of things and letting our clients know if there will be any delay to their appointment due to this and explaining why, we have to be on the ball! Luckily our lovely clients usually understand, as if it were their pet they would also want our immediate attention. Finally, our morning is over and we take a breath, just a little one though as we start cleaning to get everything ready for the rest of the day and if we are really lucky maybe even get to have a cup of tea!
Happy National Receptionist Day to our fantastic team ! 🥳
