Cooper popped into today for his Wellness Screening and check up with our fabulous nursing team. Part of his wellness screening includes blood pressure measurement an essential part of managing his over all health. Many of us know Hypertension or Hypotension often go undetected until something happens as a result of too high or too low blood pressure.

Cooper was a ⭐️ and took it all in his stride 🥰

Why Blood Pressure Monitoring is Important 📋

Early Detection of Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) Hypertension is often a "silent illness" with few initial symptoms. Regular blood pressure checks allow for early diagnosis, preventing severe complications like sudden blindness, seizures, and brain damage.

Diagnosis of Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure) Measuring blood pressure can also identify low blood pressure, which reduces blood flow to vital organs, potentially leading to shock.

Assessment of Target Organ Damage: Elevated blood pressure can damage the eyes, brain, heart, and kidneys. Monitoring helps veterinarians detect and evaluate damage to these "target organs" caused by high blood pressure.

Guidance for Treatment Decisions: Blood pressure readings provide vital information to guide diagnostic and therapeutic choices for various conditions.

Monitoring During Procedures: Blood pressure is a key indicator of a dog's physiological status, particularly during anaesthesia and surgery, helping to ensure their stability and well-being.

Management of Chronic Diseases: For dogs with pre-existing heart disease, kidney disease, or endocrine disorders, blood pressure monitoring is essential to manage these conditions and prevent worsening.

Blue-green algae can be toxic to dogs. ☢️
