As we might expect some fireworks over the new year period, we wanted to share some tips to help your pets if they are stressed by fireworks. 🎆

A handy tip is to remember the '5 Ds' which are:
⛺️Den - it is a good idea to set up a safe space, ahead of the fireworks season, where your pet can go and know they will be safe and undisturbed. This could be as simple as a crate covered with a blanket.
🔌DAP stands for Dog Appeasing Pheromone, which refers to the natural pheromone-based calming products including plug-ins, sprays, tablets and collars such as Adaptil. For cats you can try Feliway products, or you could try Pet Remedy which is suitable for many species. If you have a den set up, this is a great spot to install a plug-in diffuser in advance of fireworks.
⚾️Distraction - it is best to use your judgement here, as some pets prefer to be left alone, whereas others respond well to distracting activities such as games, sniffing out treats around the house, or Kong toys/Lickimats full of their favourite food.
🎼Drown out - some dogs feel calmer if the noise of fireworks is drowned out with rhythmic music or TV; you can also try ear covers for dogs (and/or 'thunder shirts'/anxiety jackets), and ensure curtains are kept closed.
💊Drugs - these are at end of the list as they should not be considered as a first-line treatment, but if your dog is severely affected by noise phobia, we can help you with medications that can help reduce their anxiety in the short term over firework season. We can also put you in touch with behaviourists for extra help.
🏠It is also advised to keep your pet safely inside (consider a lead for toilet breaks in case of bolting, and ensure microchip details are updated), and to stay at home with them during fireworks. Let them come to you for comfort, rather than assuming they will want extra fuss.

We strongly recommend working on desensitisation using sound therapies for a longer-term solution. Resources to help with this are freely available at https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/dog-advice/understanding-your-dog/sound-therapy-for-pets.

Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Great News! We can now accept payments through Klarna.

How does Klarna work for you?
- You enter into a repayment agreement with Klarna, not us
- The process is managed within the Klarna app so log in there to find out more
- A budget is created for an “in-store card” from £30 up to £1,000
- Once this is done you can make a contactless payment using a virtual in-store card to pay in practice (on a smart phone)
- You can use this as a part payment towards your bill

“Pay in 3” allows you to pay in 3 interest free instalments
1st payment on order
2nd payment after 30 days
3rd payment after 60 days

You may need to set up with Klarna somewhere where you have a good signal on your phone, so you may want to do this before attending clinic. For more information visit https://www.klarna.com/uk/ or ask at Reception.

Klarna's Pay in 3 / Pay in 30 days are unregulated credit agreements. Borrowing more than you can afford or paying late may negatively impact your financial status and ability to obtain credit. 18+, UK residents only. Subject to status. Ts&Cs and late fees apply.

Our practice is taking part in the 2024 Antibiotic Amnesty. Throughout November 2024 we are asking pet owners to return any unused or leftover antibiotic medications to us for safe disposal. Please drop off any unused medications to us at
the practice. You can hand them in to a vet, nurse or the reception team. This medication might be left-over from a recent prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t need or out-of-date medication. Let’s keep antibiotics working, together!

🚗We have received reports that there has been an accident on the A6 in Belper which has caused a build up of traffic. Please allow extra time to get to the practice this afternoon.
If you are running late or wish to re-arrange your appointment please let us know on 01773829544.

We're looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse here Riverside Veterinary Centre

We are looking for an experienced RVN to come and work with us in our shiny new building! We are moving to a new building early next year that will allow us more opportunities for our team. The role would include a mixture of theatre, kennel care and consulting.

Work life balance that works for you

Our people are at the heart of everything that we do, that’s why we know that a good work-life balance is vital in supporting our people to be their best selves. Our flexible approach to rota patterns and working hours offers a balance that truly flexes with you and your lifestyle no matter what stage you are in your career. Ideally, we’re looking for someone to work full time covering 40 hours per week. Shifts will be mixed between 8am and 7pm with breaks for lunch in our new comfortable break room or in the local area. Also, you’ll be rota’d to work 1 in 3 Saturday mornings.

More about us

Our new building will boast separate dog and cat wards, a dental room and separate theatre and lab. And of course, a brand-new office, large staff room for eating cake and other goodies and air conditioning throughout! We’ve already invested in some new equipment but the new building will allow us to have dental x-ray and a new multiparameter. We are already well equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house haematology and biochemistry. Once the dust settles from the building work, our next project is for Cat Friendly Status, as we are already passionate about a low stress experience at the practice for all species.

Our approachable, down to earth team is well established, very supportive and genuinely friendly – we make sure that we treat each other with respect, humour and kindness in what can be a stressful industry. Even on the busiest of days our team are always laughing together. We love first opinion veterinary practice, and we value the role every person has in the team. Day to day, you would be working alongside our experienced team consisting of a full complement of seven Veterinary Surgeons, Nurse team with our Student Veterinary Nurse and our receptionist team. You will always be working with our experienced vets, there will never be days where you would be the only RVN on site.

Because our people matter

We recognise that our people are fundamental to the success of our business. Investing in our people, premises and processes is at the heart of what we do. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will benefit from -
