💊Our practice is taking part in the 2024 Antibiotic amnesty💊

What is Antimicrobial Resistance❓

🦠Antibiotic resistance occurs when harmful bacteria develop defences that protect them from antibiotic medications, making treatment less effective.

🌍Antibiotics are essential when treating many conditions in animals and people. Unfortunately, bacteria are becoming resistant to many antibiotics that we rely on in human and veterinary medicine. This is an increasing problem worldwide, affecting both human and animal health.

👥By preserving the use of these essential medications by prescribing and taking medications responsibly, we can work together to help ensure they can continue to be used to treat conditions in the future.

🐾How can pet owners help? 🐾

✅Return any out of date or unwanted antibiotic medications to your vet practice for safe disposal. Never put antibiotics into household waste or flush them down the toilet. Our practice will accept any unneeded medications and ensure they are disposed of via the correct route.

✅Ensure your pet finishes their entire course of medication even if they start to feel better. Not completing the course can cause any remaining bacteria to build resistance. If your pet shows side effects from their medication, please contact us so we can help you.

❌Don’t give your pet, or any pet for which they haven’t been prescribed,
left-over or out of date antibiotics. Using antibiotics when not needed can lead to resistance of harmful bacteria and re-occurance of disease.

Here at Riverside, we simply adore giving all of our patients just as much love as we would to our own pets ❤️

Today, Luca decided he would prefer to sit on student nurse Demi’s lap whilst he recovered from his sedation instead of being in his kennel, and who are we to say no to that gorgeous face!!

Luca was a superstar for his procedure today and an absolute pleasure to providing nursing care to afterwards too!!!

**KEEPING YOUR PETS SAFE AND RELAXED ON BONFIRE NIGHT**

💥 As The 5th of November approaches, many pet owners may be worried about how their furry friends are going to deal with anxiety and stress caused by fireworks 💥

✅ With some proactive measures and planning, you can help ensure that your pets remain calm during bonfire night ✅

🎆 Here are some essential tips to help keep your pets relaxed and safe… 🎆

1 - Create a Safe Space 🛏 💤
Designate a quiet and secure area in your home where your pet can retreat when the noise begins.

2 - Distract with Soothing Sounds 🔈
Use of calming sounds or white noise can help drown out the loud explosions from fireworks. There are even especially designed soundtracks available to help comfort pets available online.

3 - Stick to Routines 🍴🍖
Pets thrive on routine, so try to keep their schedule consistent on Bonfire Night. Feed them at the usual time, go for walks beforehand, and engage in their normal activities.

4 - Provide Plenty of Exercise 🎾🐕
Before the fireworks begin, take your pet for an extended walk or play session. Physical activity helps burn off excess energy and can reduce anxiety levels.

5 - Close Windows and Curtains 🏠
Soundproof your home as much as possible by closing windows, doors, and curtains. This can help minimise noise and can also prevent your pet from getting startled by the flashes of light.

6 - Keep Identification Handy 🆔🏷
In case your pet does become frightened and tries to escape, ensure they are wearing a collar with identification tags. Check their microchip details are up to date and contain the correct contact information.

7 - Use Calming Products such as Pet Remedy😻
Consider using anti-stress aids such as pheromone diffusers, calming collars, or anxiety wraps. These products are designed to help soothe pets during stressful situations. Please give the practice a call or email to enquire about our Pet Remedy range and how this may be helpful for you and your pets.

8 - Prepare for any emergencies⚠️
In the event that your pet experiences signs of severe stress such as an injury or collapse, have a plan in place. This might include knowing the quickest route to the vet or having someone ready to assist in case of an emergency.

✨We hope all of our clients and pets have a safe 5th of November ✨
