❤️SINGLE AND READY TO MINGLE❤️

💕Bingo - Bingo came to us with her daughter who unfortunately developed an illness and it was kinder to let her go over the rainbow bridge with dignity 🌈. We’re now looking for the perfect home for this beautiful girl. Bingo is quite strong willed and we therefore feel she would thrive more in a herd and an adult only home. Could you mend Bingo’s broken heart?

💕Queenie - another beautiful girl looking for her perfect home. This lovely girl would make a perfect wife to a neutered husboar, become best friends with another girl or even join a herd. Do you have the palace that Queenie deserves?

💙Thor - handsome neutered boy Thor is looking for love preferably with lots of ladies in a herd! Unfortunately he cannot be with other boars and has the scars to prove this! Do you have the time and patience to help Thor bond into his perfect family? We would prefer him to go to a ‘hands off’ home.

💙Loki - Thor’s nemesis!! Neutered boar Loki is also looking for lots of wives in a herd or can be bonded with one or two sows. This handsome young boy is extremely strong willed so would need a ‘hands off’ home. He bears the scars from fighting but this doesn’t deflect from his handsome looks.

💜HAPPIEST OF ADOPTIONS!💜

🐹🐹🐹We are delighted to let you all know that Grinch (now Max), Maxy (now Luna) and Cindy (now Athena) have found their forever home and we honestly couldn’t be more thrilled for them.

Huge thanks must go to chief guinea pig spoiler, foster mum Alex, who cared for and loved them like they were her own.

We have no doubt this trio will have a wonderful new life. 💜

Happy Adoption to Russet, Flame & Jessie 🤎🧡💛

These girlies have all left us separately to returning PP adopters to hopefully provide companionship to three single piggies needing a pal 🥰 (Russet and Flame were part of a large group who have been cohabiting to keep each other company, but weren't a good match for each other in the long term, so we felt confident splitting)

Beautiful Bingo has found a soul mate in her foster daddy and will quite happily make herself very, very comfortable sat on his lap!
Mind you, they do sit and watch guinea pig videos together! 📺

🌱 HAY VS STRAW 🌾

Did you know that many small herbivore owners aren't sure of the difference between straw and hay? 🤔 It's easy to get them confused!

🌱 Hay is sweet-smelling, greener in colour and the main key component of your herbivores diet! Their diet should be 85% good quality hay to maintain gut and dental health. It's important to choose hay that is dust-free and smells "like a summers day!"

🌾 Straw is yellow/golden, generally thicker and has a hollow center (like a straw!) It is not remotely nutritious and cannot be digested by small herbivores effectively. It is also not recommended as a bedding for guinea pigs, due to the risk of eye injuries, so should not be offered to your piggies.

❗ URGENT REHOMING APPEAL❗
We just can't understand why this gorgeous trio haven't found their happy ever after? 🐹

Please share these lovely piggies, they are fast becoming our longest staying rescues ever and it's just so sad 😢

They would be willing to live indoor or outdoor providing the space is large enough, and could even be bonded into a larger sow herd by an experienced owner. Their foster mum Alex dotes on them, but they deserve a forever home. They would be a great match for first time piggy owners!

Happy Adoption to...7 lovely ladies! ✨

Following our recent appeal for experienced PP adopters, Jenny & Andy stepped forward to help. Jenny came for 3 girls and left with 5 (Umber, Tawny, Mauve, Periwinkle, and Lilac) and Andy rehomed the remaining two, Ochre & Amber. These girls left us within just a few days of arriving, which is not our normal policy. We are so short of space here currently, but knew we needed to step in to help the piggies and their previous family. We are continuing to support Jenny & Andy with their new additions through their usual isolation and assessment period, and both have adopted from us multiple times before so we trust them implicitly!

The last two girls of the 9 strong group will be heading home in around 2 weeks time 🐹

⭐ VOLUNTEERS WANTED! ⭐

We are starting to put the feelers out to build a BRAND NEW volunteer team for The Potato Patch. It is currently a work in progress but will still be situated in Belton.

We are looking for volunteers for the following roles and would be looking for each volunteer to commit to at least two sessions per week minimum to allow efficiency of the rota.

⭐ Evening checks and feeds every day (approx 1 hour, in a pair)
⭐ Cleaning mornings, twice a week likely Wednesday and Saturday (approx 4 hours, in a small team of people)

🧾 Minimum age 16 years, own transport required as we are not on any reliable bus routes sadly. Would be ideal for animal care students to achieve college work experience requirements!

Round of applause due today to our lovely Vicky (who is going to hate me for this post), who has had quite a wild ride with PP over the years. It started in early 2021 when she messaged us to adopt her first two piggies, and we matched her with Genevieve & Gina...and the rest they say, is crazy guinea pig lady history...

Soon more piggies were added to the herd, the shed was getting expanded, then they started to foster for PP, then another permanent herd was added. Vicky and her family then stepped up even more to support with transport volunteering, special needs foster cases, vet runs, website support (via Elouise), social media admin duties (not a job for the faint hearted), fundraising event volunteer...the list goes on 💜
..and today she was officially appointed as the 7th trustee of the Potato Patch through the Charity Commission 🥰

We also finally welcome Mr PP as a trustee (unfortunately for him, his wife is the OG crazy GP lady and thereby he didn't have a choice in the matter 😅) and say thanks to our fabulous Mandy for making all these clever things actually happen! 👏🏻

👀 Things are happening and we are so excited to tell you about them very soon 😃

🩷 BOARDING AND GROOMING 🩷

Just a little reminder that we don't complete any boarding and grooming services through the charity. Hannah, our manager, runs her own business offering these specialist services to guinea pigs (and other small furries) locally. Interestingly, the business actually existed before the rescue in 2021!

We have been approached to help with a re-home of a large herd of sows ranging from 1-3 years. We do not currently have capacity for them all here.

If you meet the following criteria, please get in touch!
💜 Previously adopted from PP
💜 Looking to add to an existing, well-established herd with 2-3 more young sows (we are not willing to split into singles at the moment as they started as pairs/trios and we don't want to break these bonds)
💜 Able to collect from us straight away and isolate for 2 weeks before attempting bonding

A small adoption fee will still apply, ongoing support and RTR agreement will still be provided. The herd is currently outdoors in a shed environment. We currently have no further information on these pigs, but will be able to update within due course 🐹

Happy Adoption Day to...🎉

💙 Silly, who finally found a lovely new home with a lonely lady Nora. Thankyou to Leanne and to Sarah who have doted on Silly during his 4 months in care with us!

💓 Marshmallow & Biscoff, now Dolly & Primrose, are to be bonded to lonely boy Gizmo with his lovely piggy mad family. Thankyou Vicky and Amy for loving these girlies and transporting them for us too.

You will notice our adoptions are a little quiet at the moment, we are trying to lay low as exciting things are happening at HQ. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, and thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding 👀

💙Handsome young boar Billy has gone to repair the broken heart of Eva who was recently bereaved and there’s been quite a bit of excitement already with some “…ridiculous, crazy popcorning.” 🍿

💜The Potato Patch’s foster parents are the absolute best and also prone to foster fails! 🤦🏼‍♀️

❤️Yes once again our lovely foster mum Anne-Marie has fallen in love, this time with handsome boys Caramel and Sprinkles. These boys have been with us about six months so it’s wonderful to know they are now officially adopted.🐹

They’ve been renamed Kopi and Mocha which we think suits them beautifully. ☕️

“Cindy, Max(ine) and (The) Grinch are a fabulous trio looking forward to finding their forever home.
Cindy is the most confident out of the group, followed by beautiful Max, who is just not quite as brave as Cindy, but is dying to come out of her shell. And then there is (The) Grinch... Who is an absolute Hollywood star when it comes to impersonations of the beloved character to whom he shares the name.
Cindy and Max are always first out greeting me with very loud wheaks every day. The Grinch however, hides in whatever he can pretend is his cave. He is ready for his saviour to come and make his heart grow 3 sizes and get him out of hiding!”

Still very early days but...she's fighting! 🫶🏻 #BeMoreShauna

Unfortunately long termer OAP boy Chunk is having some trouble with his teeth. His eagle-eyed foster mum Vicky noticed he wasn't quite his spritely self last week - a very subtle, but very important behaviour change! We noticed he was losing weight (again very subtle, just a few grams per day) and his incisors were growing unevenly, which can indicate issues with the back teeth (molars) too. He was examined by the vet who confirmed this. He is on a strong dose of pain relief and is being offered soft foods to encourage his eating. Hopefully he can gain some condition over the next few days as it's likely he will be undergoing dental surgery in the coming week to correct the molar issue, providing he is fit and well enough for the anaesthetic 🐹 We are so lucky to have such wonderful, observant foster families who monitor their piggies so carefully so medical concerns can be managed effectively and quickly 💜 Here is Chunk enjoying some softened pellet with his little "brother" Toast 🥰

Look at these playful Breakfast Boys!!! How can anyone resist having such a bundle of fun? But can you believe that Toast (half white, half grey/brown) is still looking for his next adventure with a boar friend so he can continue causing mischief! So do you have space in your heart (and a good grooming kit) for this young boy? Lovely boy Stitch was rehomed through PP a few years ago as a 6 week old pup. He lived a very happy life with his older 'brother' Mitch until Mitch sadly passed recently. With our Home for Life Promise, Stitch's family returned him back to our care to entrust us to find him a perfect new home for the next chapter of his life. His wonderful first family even dropped him at his vet appointment and fully funded his castrate surgery today, for which we are so grateful 💜 This beautiful boy will be looking for his new home (and ladies 🤞🏻) very soon, but for now, he is enjoying being pampered in recovery with a little bit of Critical Care feed 🌿 He soon realised how hungry he was and is now munching away on fresh dandelions! 🌼 The most handsome man! 😍
