💗 A message from Anna…

I am very sad to be closing Armstrong Vets. The past year has been invaluable for me, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to reconnect with grassroots veterinary care in a community setting.

I hope to continue seeing many of our fantastic clients at Wood Vets, and I look forward to introducing you to the lovely, exceptionally capable Wood team members, who I worked with for many years prior to coming down to Armstrong.

Finally, I would like to thank the brilliant Armstrong team for all their hard work. It has been such a pleasure working with you.

Clients are encouraged to email in their requests for pet data transfer to [email protected] UNLESS an urgent appointment is required at which point, if they call within the above detailed hours we will prioritise their pet's notes being transferred to enable them to be seen elsewhere asap.

⚠️ A quick update about our services over Christmas.

Ongoing recruitment struggles and vet shortages have made it difficult for our team to deliver our usual service over the last few months. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to provide appointments over the Christmas period. Rest assured, we have taken steps to ensure that you and your pet can easily access high-quality veterinary care during this time.

Due to unforeseen circumstances and team member illness, we will be closed from 2pm today.

Don’t worry – our colleagues at Wood Veterinary Group are on hand for all emergencies.

We are having an much needed team meeting from 11:30am to 1:30pm today and so our phones will be temporarily transferred to Wood Vet Group and there is a sign on the door asking anyone arriving in those hours to wait until 1:30pm unless an life threatening situation. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused!

Due to a member of staff having an emergency surgery, we are closing early some days next week as we have no one to man reception.
Tuesday the 10th, we will be closing our doors from
4pm.
Wednesday the 11th, we will close at 2pm.
When shut, our phones will be automatically diverted to our wonderful back up team at Wood Vet Group (post code GL2 4NB) in Quedgeley for emergencies.

🐶 Slowing down on walks? 🤔 It's easy to assume they're just getting old, but… often, it's a sign of something more, like arthritis or lameness. Senior dogs might need slower, sniffy walks to stay comfortable and happy. They could also benefit from eating a bit less and having a padded bed to ease joint pain.

Don’t wait for the signs to become severe - early intervention is key! 💪

🐱 Many pets slow down with age, but it’s important to remember that this isn’t always just a normal part of getting older. Early signs of joint pain and discomfort can often be mistaken for simple aging. Addressing these issues before they become severe can make a big difference in your pet’s quality of life.

🐾Watch for Subtle Signs: If your pet is moving slower or seems less active, it might not just be age-related. Look out for changes in their behaviour or mobility.
🐾Act Early: Don’t wait for severe symptoms. Consult with your vet if you notice any signs of discomfort or pain.
🐾Joint Support: There are many options for joint support and pain management that can help keep your pet comfortable and active.

Don’t forget regular nail trims since they're not walking as much. If you notice these mobility changes, it’s time for a vet check-up.

Fireworks + Pets = Cosy Time! 🎇🐶

Bonfire Night can be fun for us, but it can be really stressful for our furry friends! Here are some top tips to help keep your pets calm and safe during the fireworks:

🐾 Create a Safe Space: Set up a cosy, quiet room with their favourite toys and blankets.
🎶 Noise Distraction: Play calming music or turn on the TV to help drown out the loud bangs outside.
🐕 Walk Earlier: Take your dog for a walk before dark, before the fireworks start.
🔒 Keep Them Indoors: Make sure windows, doors, and pet flaps are closed so your pet can't escape if they get spooked.
🐱 Don’t Forget the Small Pets: Move rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets indoors or cover their enclosures to muffle the noise.

While we enjoy the fireworks, let's make sure our pets enjoy a peaceful, stress-free night!

caramel apples, macadamia nuts, chocolate
raisins, and sweet wrappers 🍫

🦴 Even small amounts can be dangerous, so
make sure to keep these treats out of reach. If
your dog has eaten any of these, take your pet
straight to the vet. Opt for pet-friendly snacks
instead and ensure your pup has a howling

🥾 As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, it's the perfect time to enjoy autumn walks with your furry friend. 🐶

Here are some tips to ensure your pet stays safe and happy during your autumn adventures:

🧥Stay Warm: Ensure your pet is comfortable and warm with appropriate clothing, especially if they have short fur

🍁 Watch Out for Hazards: Be mindful of fallen leaves, which can hide potential dangers like sharp objects or holes

🐿 Stay on Leash: With wildlife more active, keep your pet on a leash to prevent unexpected chases

🥛Hydrate: Bring water for your pet, as they can still get thirsty even in cooler weather

Meet Willow and Fin, they are Maine C***s.
Today they were both in for their FREE of charge annual flea and worm health checks as they were both feeling a bit itchy.

They were both sent home after our Head Nurse Dan applied a Felpreva to them. Felpreva is a spot on that we apply to the back of the neck that lasts for 3 month. It is 'an all in one' treatment, that covers fleas, tick and worms.

Did you know, that you'll only find 5% of the fleas on your pets coat. The rest live with you in your home.

These tiny seeds can easily get stuck in their paws, ears, and even eyes, leading to infections and discomfort. Here’s what you need to know to keep your furry friends safe during your outdoor adventures this summer.🌱 How to Prevent Grass Seed Injuries: Check Regularly: After walks or playtime, inspect your pet's fur, especially between their toes, ears, and underbelly. Groom Often: Regular grooming can help spot and remove any seeds before they cause issues. Protective Gear: Consider using dog boots or other protective gear if you frequently visit areas with lots of tall grass.
