Gorgeous boy ‘Otto’ ♥️ 💙

This handsome boy came in to be neutered recently, here he is when he came back for his ‘post op check’ . These are included in the cost of the procedure, and are normally made with a nurse. We like to make sure everything’s healing as it should be!

Otto was delighted to be back and happily showed us how well he had healed! ❤️‍🩹❣️

❤️ Lovely Daisy was chosen from many in a competition to be in a new summer novel!!

Here she is doing a quick proof read to make sure they’ve included all the best bits about her 🐶🐶, Bless her! Well deserved as she’s a beautiful girl and always super happy and excited to see us when she comes in 😁.

I’m sure she will take the fame in her stride 🥰.

🐶 ❤️ Happy boy ‘Wren’ came in for his post op check after neutering and was delighted to see everyone!!

His owner volunteers at local dog rescue ‘Appledown’ and fell in love with his huge cheeky personality. He loved his day with us and got ALOT of nurse cuddles 🥰.

🤩 Big welcome to St John’s team to Emily who joined us last week as a registered veterinary nurse 😁.

She has two little poodley dogs, so she’s going to be very happy here 😊.

Here she is with Max who came in to be neutered last week, as you can see she was totally smitten 🥰 .

We would like to wish all our lovely patients and their families a very happy Easter 🐣 🪺 🌺

We are closed tomorrow and on Easter Monday, but the team at VetsNow are available for any emergencies and for any concerns you may have.

☠️ Please to mindful to keep those chocolate eggs away from your inquisitive four legged friends, and hot cross buns! Just 1 raisin can poison your dog, it’s just not worth the risk!!

Today is ‘International day of happiness’ 😄

😻 We have very happy news, some of you may remember one of our patients escaped out of his owners car in our car park, 6 weeks ago today 😔 .

With the help of our local Cats Protection League lending us a trap, he was found on Sunday 🤩 . He had found shelter in a farmhouse outbuilding a stones throw away from where he went missing from!!

He’s obviously lost weight, but remarkably seems unscathed by his adventures, and very perky and happy to be home again ❤️.

🙏 Please make sure your pets microchip details are up to date, literally takes minutes.

✳️ Did you get your puppy from a breeder, and they said they would change the details, please check as normally the new owners have to.

✳️ Have you recently taken on a rescue cat, please make sure your details are in the chip database, not the rescues. Don’t assume that it’s been done. Always best to double check.

✳️Have you moved house? There’s always so much admin and stress involved when moving house, but don’t forget to change the details of your chip once you have moved (Also new collar tags for dogs).

✳️New mobile number/email address? Don’t forget to update it on the database.

✳️ Going on holiday? You can call your chip company and add temporary numbers to your record in case you are uncontactable.

✳️If your pet has been chipped at the vets, double check all the details are correct, also some companies require an owner to ‘confirm’ or ‘validate’ the details. These emails can be missed or go into ‘spam’ which will leave the pets chip unregistered 😣.

If you don’t have your pets microchip details, or know which database they are registered with just give us a call and we’d be happy to help 😊.

Sadly vets have many found animals handed in, and some have microchips which the details aren’t up to date 😵‍💫😵‍💫 so it can be very difficult to trace the owners.

✅So put it on your ‘to do’ list today, so that if anything happened to your beloved pet and they wandered off and got lost, they will be home where they belong as soon as possible 🥰🐈‍⬛🐶.

🐾 Today, on National Dog Theft Awareness Day, we want to highlight the importance of making sure your pet is microchipped and the details are up to date! You never know when something might happen 🛡️

Our partnership with IdentiChip has been instrumental in helping safeguard beloved pets across the UK 🐶💙 Not only do they provide microchips for our patients, but they also offer our clients free lifetime detail changes, ensuring pets stay connected to their owners. Thank you, IdentiChip!

👩‍⚕️ The role of a veterinary nurse is very diverse, all as important as each other.

Ranges from phlebotomist, 🩸 💉 radiographer, anaesthesiologist, pharmacist 💊 , receptionist 📞 , ward nurse, surgical nurse ✂️ the list is endless….

One of the most important ones is ‘expert puppy cuddler’ which we all take very seriously 🐶 ❤️!! (Normally fight over who gets to cuddle them first!!).

Kerry is showing her great skills here when ‘Sika’ came in to meet us this week. It’s so important that as puppies they get a positive experience at the vets, lots of fuss and treats, and that they get to see us as their friends 🐶❤️.

Get creative and show us what you've whipped up! 🍳🥞🐶

How adorable is this little lady? ❤️

‘Maia’ came in recently to be spayed. This is an ovariohysterectomy, where her reproductive organs are removed to stop her from having kittens. There are so many advantages to getting your cats neutered, here is an interesting article about the importance of neutering your cat. 🐈‍⬛

Keep any chocolates safely away from your little furry friends this ❤️ day (If you’re lucky enough to get them!!)

Here's your annual reminder to keep Valentine's Day chocolate away from little paws! 💌 🍫

🙏 Please can we ask anyone local and everyone visiting to keep an eye out for this guy. He escaped out of the owners car on Tuesday. 😿
We have traps set (Thank you CPL for the loan) he was sighted yesterday , but he’s a very nervous ex rescue so naturally wary of strangers.
He’s a very striking ginger, much brighter than this photo so pretty distinctive.
Thank you 😊

Belle is a 10-year-old crossbreed looking for a new home after her owner sadly passed away. This means we haven't got a lot of history on her, but we know she is very sweet and loves people she knows. She also loves cuddles, and lying on laps! 🐶💙

If you would be interested in rehoming Belle, you can apply and view her full profile on our website: www.nawt.org.uk/rehoming/animal/9401/

❤️ This is one very lucky little cat, ‘Olive’ .

Many of us go on holiday abroad and fall in love with the local cats, we’ve all been known to smuggle out food from hotel buffets for them as we can’t resist their little faces.

For Olive it was more than a holiday romance, this little lady’s new family were smitten. Once back in the UK lots of logistics were sorted, and her new mum headed back there to get her, even arranging the route via ✈️ Paris and the Eurostar where the proud expectant dad was waiting with the car, so Olive didn’t have to fly on her own 🥲. The bond she has with them is adorable and so lovely to see 🥰.

This is her when she came in to be checked after she was spayed, she’s healed brilliantly and will soon be out exploring her new garden and the joys of the English spring countryside 🌷🌸🌤️.

WANTED: RVN to join us in the New Year!
We are an Independent Veterinary Practice in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, looking for an enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our excellent nursing team!

You will be joining an experienced team of vet nurses and vets. We have a good balance of veterinary nursing and client focus, so there is a share of working on reception and telephone communication, as well as true vet nursing consultations, schedule 3 surgeries etc.

The practice is open Monday to Friday 8am-7pm, with appointment sessions throughout the day between 9am-7pm. We are open Saturdays 8.30am-1pm. There would be a share of 1 in 4 Saturdays.

The position can be part-time or full time and we can offer a flexible working pattern to allow for good work life balance. Our out of hours is done by an external provider. On the few occasions where an emergency surgery has over run, if you are asked to please stay on until the patient is transferred to OOHs, you are paid for any extra hours that you do.

We truly have such lovely clients who really seem to value us and the service we provide.

If you are interested in coming to join us, please telephone Louisa on 01442 863101 or email: [email protected]. We can sort a time to meet, have a look around and chat over a cuppa! www.stjohnsvets.co.uk

This weekend will see many Halloween parties take place ahead of the 31st of October. While Halloween parties and trick-or-treating may be great fun for many, it can be a time of real worry for our four-legged friends. Having the door knocked or bell rung throughout the evening and people dressed in strange-looking outfits could spook even the most placid of pets, even sending super-keen door greeters into a spin. See my infographic for some quick Halloween pro tips. For more advice on how to have a spook-free Halloween, check out my article at https://www.hannegrice.com/walk-the-dog/ten-tips-to-avoid-spooking-your-pets-this-halloween/
