Beautiful Frodo visited Leanne recently for a quick mani-pedi and a cheeky photo shoot 💅

Longer nails are common in older pets, when they exercise and groom less. They are also sometimes seen in younger animals too!

This lovely long lady visited Medivet Brockham recently, when her owner noticed that she was feeling under the weather 🥲

Muffin was suffering with a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection of the womb, that occurs following a season in intact bi***es. If left untreated, this condition can quickly become life-threatening. 🦠

Muffin underwent emergency surgery at the hands of Bríd and Ana - thankfully surgery went well and Muffin has continued to go from strength to strength. She has now made a full recovery! ❤️‍🩹

Although the long face remains, we are delighted to see that Muffin is back to her happy self 😊

🏆Big congratulations to our
very own Leanne, who came runner-up in the BVNA Senior Support Nurse of the Year at BVNA congress this year!!!

🩺 This is a national competition run by the BVNA and it is wonderful for Leanne to get the recognition she deserves.

🐶 Most of our clients know Leanne well, having worked for her student training and through to being a Registered Veterinary Nurse here at Medivet Brockham.

🥦 Leanne has changed the face of the practice with her passion for nursing clinics. She has a particular focus on nutrition, and is a wealth of knowledge with regards to the nutritional needs of various different conditions. She also runs very successful weight clinics, with the results speaking for themselves.

🐶 The lovely Holly visited us recently with a sore paw. Upon exam she was found to have a swelling between her toes. These are also known as interdigital cysts. 🐶

🐾 Interdigital cysts often occur when a foreign body gets stuck between the toes of the paw. 🐾

🥀 Rita and Leanne admitted Holly to investigate further. Holly was sedated and the cyst was explored. A nasty thorn was removed, shown in these pictures! 🥀

🩺 Holly went home with medication to help heal her paw and a cone to stop her from licking. The cone might look big, but dogs can become contortionists when they want to lick their paws! 🩺

Do you know how to spot blue-green algae?

Exposure to blue-green algae can cause long-term health problems in pets and can even be fatal. By drinking from or swimming in contaminated water, pets are at a high risk of becoming seriously ill.

Over the summer, our vets see a lot of dogs who have issues because of grass seeds. It is important to contact your vet immediately if you suspect your dog has an injury caused by a grass seed.

If walking your dog in long grass or woodland areas, we recommend checking your dog over and brushing away any grass seeds after the walk is done. Pay particular attention to paws, ears, eyes, and armpits.

The Brockham Veterinary Surgery has been part of Medivet since 2003. Managed by Veterinary Surgeons, Ana Brito and Bríd Power, the team at Brockham pride themselves on providing an extremely high standard of care with dedicated and personalised service.
