Trackin' Up had a great day yesterday. Sadly we could only take a 3 man team but the horses and riders were great. We finished a respectable 8th. Bt we were just pleased to have made the British Dressage - Quest Club semi final at Willow Banks EC

Bertie and Flo were also in the Novice my quest class and Flo is off to the final, Whoo!!! It is well deserved, Bertie has a agonizing wait to see if he has picked up a wild card as he finished 4th, just outside the direct qualifiers so 🤞 he can join Flo in November.

All in all we had an amazing day and great fun. 🤞 We can get another track team together next year as it's been great to see each rider and horse come on leaps and bounds.

Bertie's highlight was finishing his team quest class on a whopping 73% well done Bertie!!!

So excited to announce that our team "Trackin' Up" are heading to the British Dressage - Quest Club semi finals at Willow Banks EC. Myself and Tash have also qualified for the Novice individual myquest competition which we are very excited about. October is going to be an exciting but busy month for our track ponies.

I have asked my liveries what changes they have noticed in their horses since moving to the track and here are some responses.

For Flo I think her stress levels came down massively but she never lost her spark or energy so work was soooo much more enjoyable for both of us. Also her ability to communicate with other horses, she's much less grumpy with other horses around her than ever before (not saying she's not grumpy at all obviously).

Boo is so much happier and more settled! She doesn’t weave anymore (really), she isn’t as grumpy, and i know she’s got a belly but she looks better than she ever did when she was stood in a box. We have noticed that other horses stop weaving when they join us on the track as they have constant food and friends, sadly they don't really need us.

We find slowly horses become more independent as we don't regiment their whole lives they get to make choices again. Some horses find this challenging in the early days. Bt we are always there to help as are the rest of the herd.

So I asked my liveries what changes they have seen in their horses since moving to the track.

The change in our home-bred mare Ruby since moving her 3 months ago has been nothing short of remarkable. Previously, she could easily become anxious and stressed due to having to be muzzled on the grass or in her stable— constantly on edge and in 17 years we had never seen her lie down outside, now she’s often to be found day time napping!

Since joining this track, she’s absolutely thriving. She now enjoys the freedom to just be a horse— with natural herd dynamics, and the companionship she clearly craved. It brings us so much joy to know she finally feels safe and at ease.

Another unexpected change is how content she is when we visit. In the past, she would rush to us the moment we arrived, clearly needing comfort, reassurance and been very food driven. Now, she often doesn’t even look up — not because she’s uninterested, but because she’s happy, secure, and fully relaxed in her environment.

This yard has given her the lifestyle she was meant for. It allows us to continue to manage her weight with exercise and freedom, honestly something we didnt think was possible.
Downside… the colour of her! She spends so long grooming other horses and laying down that she’s never clean! 😂

This same horse is usually rugged all year round as she suffers from sweetich. This year however we are missing a lot of mane, I'm assured less than usual. She is still itching, bt she has a hair on her belly still and has only made herself sore on 1 occasion. Bt she has been rugless and maskless all summer. I can't possibly explain why this has been the case. Bt it has also been noticed that another pony hasn't had her usual random allergic reactions which she randomly gets on grass.

Our water buffet from NeighturesGraze nettle, cinnamon and black salt. Which do our horses like best?
Thanks

So why are tracks usually a simple square shape.....? Because they need to be easy for horses to figure out. We have a wonderful quarantine section in the middle of our track and when the mares and mooching they can get round it fine. However if there is something they really really want the other side of the fence often they can't work out how to get to it. They work it out eventually. Bt this is why we have many feeding stations and multiple water troughs.
This is part 2 of will the mares get fed tonight?!

This video makes me soooo happy. Usually the mares and gelding know when I'm making feeds the boys come and gather at the gate and the girls come and crowd me at the feed room. Bt today no one was bothered. Everyone was busy eating even after id fed the boys the girls were still chilling and eating together.
So enjoy the video of me trying to encourage the mares out of the quarantine section. There is a part 2 coming and Boo to leave our big hay feeder.

Did anyone guess correctly which mare would get to me first?

I asked my liveries what changes they had seen in their horses since being on the track. So here are a few of their comments as well as mine.

The obvious one is weight loss. And body shape change. Our horses are now smoother. We don't try and achieve a quick weight loss at MTL it's more of a slow and natural weighoss. We use the winter to loose most weight. And in summer we allow the horses to gain some weight back to try and mimic their natural cycles. The big thing we have noticed is although the weight bridges don't always say that the horses have most much weight. Their body shape changes for the better. Their fat pads disappear lumpy bums become smooth, crests reduce in size slowly, ribs become more evenly covered.

Mays owner has noticed that May is more sociable with other horses now. She’s now a social butterfly as opposed to being stand offish with other horses and relying on Zed, he was her field mate and the gelding the owners also own who is currently on traditional livery, he is an older boy who isn't at Lami risk and doesn't have the weight issues May has. We find that since being on the track she’s easier to handle, calmer and thinks more about what’s going on and what she’s doing. May’s shape has changed and she has gone down a girth size so all good.

Bertie a big change in him is that he is more keen to eat. He was always a poor dooer. It didn't matter how much hay is give him or how much feed he just wouldn't eat it. There are still many times when we see him chilling and not eating. Bt over all he is much keener to eat nowadays. He enjoys his large buckets of feed and he enjoys chilling and being with friends. He never seemed an unhappy horse previously, bt we have now noticed that he is much happier.

Keep an eye out for more posts like this as there have been lots of changes noticed.

It's useful to multi task when mixing horses.... So a spot of tack cleaning.

Track ponies did themselves proud yesterday, as did their riders. Both Flo and Bertie were at the area festival at Port Royal EEC both did brilliantly Bertie came top 10 with a 6th place finish and Flo and Jess came well within the top half with a 14th place finish.

Thanks KB Equine Therapy, Partnership for Performance for their pre competition massage earlier in the week. You look after our horses brilliantly.
