The Sanctuary provides a refuge for lost or rejected animals and fowl of all kinds. We try to find permanent and loving homes for the animals, when possible. Animals which can't be re-homed for any reason are given a permanent home at the Sanctuary. All the animals receive medical treatment when necessary and all are spayed or neutered. Barby Keel never puts any animal down, unless it is absolutely necessary to prevent needless suffering.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Kimberley Whybourne and the East Sussex School of Performing Arts for their generous donation of wood to the sanctuary.
This contribution will be be used to help us repair the goat and sheep houses so they have extra protection over the colder months.
Thank you again we are very grateful!

We are running very low on big blankets for our dogs and as you can see angel loves nothing more than being snuggled into them !

If anyone has any big( and clean ) blankets they no longer need we would really appreciate them.

Please no duvets .

You can drop off anyday

Thank you πŸ™

With Guy Fawkes Night fast approaching, please remember to check your bonfires for hedgehogs who may be sleeping.

Our spiky friends are rapidly on the decline and you can help to prevent unnecessary loss. Follow this wildlife friendly advice from British Hedgehog Preservation Society:
β€’ Don’t build your bonfire until the same day that you will light it. The longer it’s left, the more likely that a hedgehog will find its way into your bonfire.
β€’ If you need to build your bonfire in advance, make sure you place chicken wire one metre high all the way around the bottom. This should be placed at an outward angle to make it more difficult for hedgehogs to climb.
β€’ If you have stored materials for your bonfire outdoors, before building it move them to a different patch of ground before you start.
β€’ Always place the bonfire on open ground but never on a pile of leaves as a hedgehog may be hiding underneath.
β€’ Always check the entire bonfire for hedgehogs before lighting it. Remember that they tend to hide in the centre and bottom two feet in particular.
β€’ When checking, lift parts of the bonfire section by section using a pole or broom. Do not use a fork, spade or rake as this may injure a hedgehog.
β€’ Use a torch to look inside the bonfire and listen for a hissing sound, as this is the noise that hedgehogs make when they are disturbed or distressed.
β€’ Always light your bonfire from one corner, rather than in the centre, in order to give hedgehogs a chance to escape if they need to.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November but don’t forget about our wildlife! πŸ¦”πŸ”₯

Yesterday, there was a messy pile of blankets on the ground, all filthy, a bit wet, and frozen from being slept on the night before. I noticed a city worker collecting them and putting them into what looked like a trash bag. Then this morning, as I walked by the same spot, I was pleasantly surprised to see the blankets washed and neatly folded. It really made me smile! A big shoutout to the kind person who took the time to do this!
