The Sanctuary provides a refuge for lost or rejected animals and fowl of all kinds. We try to find permanent and loving homes for the animals, when possible. Animals which can't be re-homed for any reason are given a permanent home at the Sanctuary. All the animals receive medical treatment when necessary and all are spayed or neutered. Barby Keel never puts any animal down, unless it is absolutely necessary to prevent needless suffering.

Groomio came to the sanctuary in July 2024 estimated to be an adult due to lack of information as he was a found as a stray. Groomio has come on leaps and bounds but still requires reassurance in a calm and gentle voice. He is shy at first but after giving him a stroke and sitting nearby he will soon be down for more of a fuss! We are unable to confirm whether he would tolerate living with young children, other cats or dogs. We believe he would thrive best in a family environment with older children as the only pet, where he can have cases to attentive care to continue assisting him to bloom. Groomio would be suitable as an indoor cat or have assess to a secure garden!

We would like to say a massive thank you to Kimberley Whybourne and the East Sussex School of Performing Arts for their generous donation of wood to the sanctuary.
This contribution will be be used to help us repair the goat and sheep houses so they have extra protection over the colder months.

We are running very low on big blankets for our dogs and as you can see angel loves nothing more than being snuggled into them !

If anyone has any big( and clean ) blankets they no longer need we would really appreciate them.

What an utterly hideous blast was had for the ghoulish Halloween event on the last open day at the Sanctuary this year. Barby was rocking the Grotbags vibe 🖤 It was a brilliant turn out despite the damp weather. The cafe had a constant stream of customers so we didn't manage to take many photos (send them in if you have any). The day wouldn't have been the same without wonderful Ann and Anthonys brilliant theatrical act 🦇and we had the lovely Nina Nirvana reading tarot which was a great hit🐈‍⬛. A MASSIVE Thank you from Barby and the team, for all the volunteers involved in organising such a great day and also everyone's continued support of the Sanctuary whether volunteering, visiting or donating ... there's always so many mouths to feed. Here's to a gentle Winter, we'll be holding the Christmas bizarre as per usual. Don't forget there will be new opening times next year 1 til 4pm. Be kind to each other, especially to all animals. L💜VE Peace🕊 Vegan🌱

Please take a minute to read and share this. We have so many lovely cats at the sanctuary. Young, old, male, female, short/long hair, friendly/not friendly, playful, calm, cuddly cats, lap cats and so many more. They all deserve a second chance at a home to call their own, to be shown the unconditional love they show us. Unfortunately lots of cats are overlooked for various reasons and are left waiting for their forever homes for a very long time, we have residents that stay with us for over a year. We hope that this will show people that there is a cat for eveyone and when you are considering adopting a cat have a look at the ones that get overlooked. Thank you for everyone’s support ❤️
