This week, I have been taking Rose to different locations. We have been to the beach, Collington woods and the park.
This is exactly what happens in my progression outside class which starts again in October.
I really did test little Rose and she has done amazing. It wasn't perfect but training isn't.
I set two goals before we left.
One was to walk nicely on lead which she did most of the time. Two was to able to give me focus when other dogs were around, which she did.
I was happy with that but I did have a little bit of help. To find out watch my Spaniel tip below.
It is helpful to set goals. When you come to my classes, I ask every owner what they want to get out of the course and every week we work hard to achieve what they want.
You can do the same by coming to one of my classes.
I have a 2 spaces left for puppy classes and one space left for evening teen classes on Monday 9th September 2024.

What is a flirt pole
I have to be honest it’s way too warm for me.
I like it warm but not this warm.
In the morning, I have been walking the dogs at Collington Woods, which has been a nice change.
It has been a lot cooler in there, which suits me and the dogs.
i have been skipping the evening walks which means I have had more time training with Rose.
We have been working on a placeboard and playing with a flirt pole.
What's a flirt pole.............I hear you cry........Don't worry
it's nothing rude. i reveal all, in this video. Try it with your dog.
If your dog loves it like Rose, you could even take it to the park.

Puppy biting can be rather frustrating.
Most of the time, when you puppy is biting, he is trying to tell you something it could be over - tired, over - stimulated or had enough of being handled.
Watch my 3 tips to stop puppy biting and then set your puppy up for success by signing up for my ‘tame your problem puppy class’ in September

Sneak peak at my progression outside class
My new progression outside class kicked off on Monday.
We had everything, helicopters, people, other dogs and little bit of rain.
Attendees did really well. Smashed all the exercises and more importantly had fun!

Very proud!

As you may know it's Pet Appreciation Week.
On Sunday, I talked about my Finn.
I thought, I can't leave out Rose.
If you have been following her progress, she has just turned one year old.
She is very much in the teenage stage, some days she is amazing and some days she acts like she has completely done deaf.
All completely normal but very frustrating even for a dog trainer.
I will tell you my secret weapon to getting Rose to do what I want.
You won't believe it when I tell you...........
Drum roll please .....................
Celery, she loves celery more than anything she gets all excited, when she sees it.
I have even started using it as treats when we are outside and it works.
Here's a little video of Rose having celery, this will make you laugh!
Please continue to share with me your pet appreciation, in the comments.
Just a reminder ................

Do you appreciate your pet?
This week is Pet Appreciation Week.
Like me, I bet you have lots of reasons why you appreciate your pet.
I will share you one of mine.
Recently, Finn has been doing same amazing demos.
He came to the last daytime class and the gundog workshop.
I was really impressed and I received lovely comments from my attendees of how well behaved he is.
I have to admit, he is my advert for my business.
I am very proud of him and love working with him.
Here's a little video of what we do on our walks.
You are welcome to share with me your pet appreciation.
Comment below …….. love to hear them.

Over the last few years, it has been a growing trend to take our dogs to an enclosed field.
It has it's benefits, you get to let your dog off and exercise him without worrying he will run off.
However, if you then take him to the park and expect him to listen to you.
Your dog does not understand the difference.
If you only take him to enclosed field, there is no way you could go back to going to public parks.
Your dog would have learnt that he can run off and do what he likes, I call this becoming self employed.
Any one who owes a gundog knows, this is not good and will led to stressful walks.
Like with Rose, my working springer, I limit the amount of free-time she has.
Here's a quick video I did with Finn, sharing my thoughts on enclosed fields
If you do take your dog to enclosed field, I would encourage that you put a long line on and work on getting your dog's focus.
Call your dog in a cheerful way many times as dogs learn through repetition.
When your dog comes to you, reward him in a way that will motivate him to do it again such as fuss, treats or toys.
Treat it like a public field, so when you do go to the woods or park, your dog will be more focused on you.
Gundog training can help with focus and connection.
You are providing an outlet for your gundog's natural instincts while building a great relationship.

I will be running gundog classes at the end of April, I will be announcing the dates next week so keep your eyes peeled.
If you want the booking links before anyone else then message me and I will add you to the waiting list.
Until next time

Nightmare teen to well behaved dog Happy 5th birthday Finn 🐶
How to properly socialise your dog?
I don't know about you but I am getting really fed up with the weather.
I can't wait for summer dry days.
Every time Rose goes out to the garden, she looks like she has had a muddy bath.
I can hear the noise as she runs and skids in the mud.
If you have a Spaniel, you will understand what I mean.
On Monday, I was walking Finn at the Beach.
On the way back to the car.
A man yelled from the other side of the street 'Are you getting fed off of the mud at the Downs too'
I looked over and there was a familiar looking man with his black Labrador,
I had indeed saw them before at the Downs where I normally go.
I shouted back 'Yes isn't it horrible there'.
it is amazing how many people recognise you when you are out.
I am not really a chatty person when walking my dog.
I like to keep myself to myself and spent time with my dog.
Finn isn't that social either.
That is actually how I like it.
I talk about how to properly socialise your dog in this video.
It is more than just meeting lots of different dogs.
Grab a brew and have a watch.
I briefly talk about socialisation and body language in my classes
New dates will be added soon but in the meantime you can still apply for a space.
