You are planning a lovely walk with your spaniel then a squirrel comes and ruins it ................
They appear out of nowhere but you can bet that your spaniel has clocked it.
It does feel on some level, the squirrel is teasing your dog.
You know the whole, 'ha, ha, I'm up a tree and you can't get to me.
This winds your dog up even more.
And will lunge, bark and do anything to get to one.....
Does that sound familiar?
This is not I hate squirrels email or anything like that.
Far from it.
And also today is national squirrel appreciation day.
I have recently rehomed a Guinea pig that could easy identify as a squirrel. He looks very much like one 😂 ( more on this another time).
Thankfully, Finn and Rose are not bothered by them but I have conditioned them to look at me when they see one.
But I do understand the struggles of an owner who has a spaniel who is obsessed with them.

In 2011, Fenton the Labrador become an internet sensation.
I don't know if you saw the video on youtube where a dog is chasing a deer at Richmond park and all you can hear is the owner screaming his name.
'Fenton, Fenton, Fenton' while running after him.
We have all been there.
It must have been so embarrassing for his owner.
A couple of weeks ago, same thing happened at Richmond Park but it was a Spaniel.
Sadly, the poor deer had to be put to sleep after suffering fatal injuries.
I thought after Fenton incident, owners would have learnt to put their dogs on lead especially around deer.
It is far too tempting for a Spaniel.
Recall is one of the things that most Spaniel owners struggle with.

Today is National Santa List Day, it celebrates the day that Santa puts together his list of naughty and nice children. It’s also a day for kids to start working on their Christmas wish lists.
My Daughter, Scarlett has already sorted out her wish list.
She has been really good at school so I would say she is on the nice list.
Finn, my eldest dog is generally pretty good but he has his moments like any dog, so I would put him on the nice list.
Rose is going through the teenage stage.
She may be a cute Spaniel but she can be a bit naughty.
Lately, she has been making some good progress.
Ever since I have found my secret weapon............
Liver paste.
She goes nuts for it....
I wouldn't be surprised if she has asked Santa for some more 😂

Last Saturday. I delivered my gundog workshop.
I love doing these.
I hope this shines through.
The attendees were amazing.
Lovely bunch of people.
Something funny did happen.
This off lead dog come and interrupted the class.
Greeted all the dogs which they are handled really well.
I had left my gundog training bag on the floor.
This dog stole one of my dummies from my bag and paraded around the park.
I had to laugh.
Don't get me wrong. it was annoying.
But what bothered me the most was the owner gave me back my dummy
and DIDN'T apologise.
I was fuming at that.
The owner might have been too embarrassed or couldn't care less.
I am not sure.
We have all been there.
But I would have apologised.
It's week 2 of my classes and I start teaching Recall.
This story came at a perfect time.

Today is National Fetch Day
The game of Fetch has been played for years between human and dogs.
It is a great way to bond with your dog.
My boy, Finn loves Fetch. His favourite toy is the Frisbee.
I encourage him to fetch many different things.
In the past, he hasn't always been that great at giving me the toy.It likes to play 'mine, mine you can't get it'.
Over the years, I have worked on his delivery and now, I can get a nice solid retrieve from him by using Lez Graham Retrieving roll.
You are probably wondering what the hell is that......I explain all in this video.
