I haven’t posted in a while and have been very behind with the congratulations for the puppies that have completed the classes.

So here goes ….. first one for 2025!

Proudly presenting Merlin, Marley, Flynn, Flindy, Sunny & Bertie!!

These puppies have had such special, individual journeys…… as well as learning lots of life skills.

Merlin has been practicing the art of channelling his enthusiasm into focus and learning to calm.

Marley how to handle frustration when he just wants to go and play!!

Flynn to adjust his play skills so he didn’t flatten everybody 😉

Flindy focus and learning to re connect with her humans during distraction

Sunny to put everything he knows and does very well at home into practice in a more distractive environment

Bertie to slowly gain confidence around the others and be happy to meet and greet and socialise.

Just brilliant!!

Thank you everyone for making the classes so enjoyable.

Marley and Flynn have a ‘bromance’ emerging so they’re off to meet up for many more play dates.

Sunny is training to be a therapy dog.

Bertie has promised me to give his big sister ‘Olive’ an easier time and to stop jumping on her.

Merlin is going to continue being his happy, beautiful self. He lights up any room he walks into. Our Little Mr Sunshine bumble bee! 🐝

And Flindy, well …. She’s just going to carry on being just beautiful!

Have fun with your puppies everyone and do stay in touch!

See you in Puppy Plus sometime soon.

This is something I say all time.

Don’t focus on the end result …. Make sure you acknowledge the progress and enjoy the ‘wins’.

Training is a continuous process of learning. Your puppy doesn’t stop, they learn things whether you realise it or not. So make sure you help them make the right choices and reinforce them positively. 🐾

When we work closely with our dogs, take small steps, we often forget to look back. We are so focused on our current challenges, that we don’t notice the huge progress we have already achieved.

While we want to move forwards, don’t forget to glance back every now and then to remind yourself just how great you are really doing.

(sit, down, stand, stay, leave, settle)

Lead Work (teach them to walk nicely on a lead)

Recalls (have your puppy dash back to you when called)

Play Skills (learning to interpret and understand puppy play) Social Skills (interacting with puppies and humans)

Focus Work (learning to come away from distraction) Puppy Problems (nipping, chewing, jumping up, toilet training)

Sound therapy is helping puppies and young dogs to desensitise to different things they may hear.

What may be the ‘norm’ for us hoomans can be worrying to your puppy.

This is where sound therapy comes in. Slowly introducing varying sounds whilst creating positive associations around them.

The key word here is ‘slowly’, taking it at your puppy’s pace.

Start with a sound which is barely audible to yourself and whilst it’s on in the background, play with your puppy, give them some tasty treats or a stuffed kong. They hear the sound but they feel calm, safe and create happy associations with that sound.

The sound can then be made slightly louder until they pretty much ignore it.

This is particularly important to start doing NOW before firework season is here.

Even if your puppy was ok with the fireworks last year, it’s doesn’t mean they won’t have a different reaction this year, especially if they are in the adolescent phase where hormones can increase the stress response.

There’s a link to the Dogs Trust site to give you some tips on Sound Therapy.

Sound therapy can help your dog feel more comfortable with new and scary life noises.

A bit soppy I know but every word is true so wanted to share.

I often say in class why force free, positive reinforcement training is a good choice……. It builds bonds and trust, all of which will give you one of the most loyal friends you could ever wish for.

My love for my beautiful Booster will stay in my heart forever 🐾

When you love a dog until the end, you come to understand a love that runs deeper than words, a love that stays with you long after they’re gone. It’s a love built in the quiet rhythms of everyday life—early morning walks when the world is still soft, the weight of their head resting on your lap, and those eyes, always watching, always trusting, as if you are the only thing that truly matters.

This love is simple, pure, and unwavering. It doesn’t demand grand gestures or endless words. It’s in the quiet company they offer, in the way they nudge your hand when they sense your heart is heavy, or in how they lay beside you, content just to be near. With a dog, there’s no need to explain yourself—they know the truest version of you and love you anyway, without judgment or expectation.

And when the end comes, when that familiar presence fades and the house feels strangely empty, you realise this was a kind of love you’ll never feel again, not in the same way. It’s a love that teaches you something about yourself—about loyalty, about tenderness, about how deeply one soul can connect to another without words. In their absence, the space they filled in your heart remains, a quiet reminder that to love like that, with such depth and simplicity, is one of life’s rarest and greatest gifts.

This is why positive, force free methods are the way to go.

Building bonds, gaining trust and having a best friend that really would do anything for you ❤️

It's easy to resort to harsh methods when teaching our dogs, we lose patience and get frustrated, but how do they feel?

I’m trying. I promise, I’m trying. I want so badly to be what you need me to be. I see your frustration, feel it ripple through the air when I make a mistake. I didn’t mean to chew the wrong thing, or bark when you wanted silence. I’m just learning, still figuring out how this world works, how to understand you.

When you get angry, I get scared. I don't know what I did, not really. I just know I failed, and my heart races because I don’t want to disappoint you. I want to do the right thing, but sometimes I just don’t know what that is yet.

Your voice gets sharp, your hands tense. Sometimes I flinch before I even know what’s coming, because I’ve felt it before—the snap, the jolt, the sting. And after, I feel lost, smaller than before, as if I’ve not only failed you but myself too. It hurts, not just on the outside, but deep down where my trust used to sit.

But you don’t need to hurt me to help me. When you guide me with kindness, when you show me patience, something inside me lights up. I 'want' to get it right. I want to make you proud. When you teach me with gentle hands and an understanding heart, I learn faster, I listen better, because I feel safe with you.

You’re my world, my everything. And in the short time I have with you, I want it to be filled with love, not fear. We don’t have forever. I don’t know how many days we have together, but I know they’re not enough. So please, help me learn, not with pain but with love. Teach me that mistakes don’t mean punishment, that I can grow without being afraid.

I’ll get there, I promise. Just like you, I’m trying to figure this out. Let’s walk this path together, with patience in your hands and hope in my eyes. I’ll follow you anywhere, as long as you lead with love.

My heart is totally broken.

Tonight I had to say goodbye to my beautiful ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’, my baby girl, my most beautiful, best girl ever … Boo.

I got chance to give her lots of kisses and stroke her paw whilst she slipped into the next world.

Where ever you’ve gone Boo, it will be a better place with you in it. I could not have asked for a more loyal, caring best friend who sat with me if I was upset, waited for me before going to bed and always knew when I needed a cuddle.

You are a truly special girl. Fly high my beautiful Booster. Go chase those pheasies and eat as many mini cheddars as you can manage to squeeze in!!

I am going to miss you more than I can describe.

I loved you your whole life, I’ll miss you for the rest of mine 💔💔

Recommendation alert….

If you’re looking for a supportive base for things like your crate, car or travel, I can highly recommend the Ivy & Duke Waterproof Travel Mat.

It is so well made and by a U.K small, independent company too. It has a thick memory foam inner that’s really supportive for those growing joints.

Being waterproof, it can also withstand any water spillage or accidents.

Currently on sale too!!

I’ve recently bought two for Boo whilst she recuperates from a nasty cellulitis infection so older dogs do benefit from them too!!

I’m really impressed with both the product and the service so had to give them a mention.

Here’s the link

(Thank you Charlotte at Ivy & Duke for such a speedy S.O.S delivery for Boo!)

Comfortable and waterproof, The Travel Mat dog bed is perfect for cars and kitchens after muddy winter walks and outdoor adventures.
