Boo & Tigs (plus a friend!) had a lovely time at Wendlebury Walkies…!!

This is a new secure field on the outskirts of Wendlebury.

It’s a great size and easy terrain for your puppy to enjoy off lead play.

There’s a shelter with seating, poo bin and bags and a hose to fill up the supplied water bowl or to wash down your woofie (be careful not to use it on your puppy though as you could frighten them)

And what better way to practice that recall?
Limited distractions where you can relax as you know they’re safe. Don’t forget to take your high end treats and toys to make it fun and motivated.

Use WOOF25 for your first visit and get 25% off.

JustPuppies Puppy Pals!!

When you come to puppy classes, not only do you and your puppy learn lots… they get to meet friends too!

It’s so wonderful when this friendship continues once classes have finished.

Willow & Henry took to each other straight away in Puppy Foundation…… Think these two are going to be pals for life! 🐾

Next up are the JustPuppies superstars from Puppy Plus Intermediate!

Have a look at the photos to see how they’ve changed!!

The intermediate class is about adding to those skills sets. Helping navigate the adolescent phase by practicing focus, disengagement from the environment and adding to the brilliant stuff learnt in foundation.

Training is a jigsaw puzzle ….. practice lots of different skills, add some fun and motivation and the results will amaze you!

So, I am very proud to introduce …..
Leo, Willow, Henry, Teddy and Nessa!!

Leo… learning to keep focused during increasing distraction levels, with his special young handler helping too! Leo also needed some confidence building so we kept the others on lead so he felt happy and comfortable in class.

Willow….. such a friendly and happy girl, Willow wanted to jump up and pull to go meet everyone and everything!! So we practiced lots of impulse control and learning to come away from external distractions. She even went to a busy Sainsburys, happily looked at people around her but then focused back on her owner and lay quietly waiting for her reward!! What an incredible achievement! 🎉

Henry……. you could not wish for a more friendly and beautiful boy than Henry. Super focused and such a fab relationship and bond with his hooman, Henry’s ‘thing’ was jumping up. Being social and friendly is never a bad thing but it’s important to teach impulse control and manners.
We practised with other members in class to help Henry understand that the ‘4 on floor’ (four paws on the ground) would get him the reinforcement of fuss or a treat that he wanted. What an amazing little chap he is.

Teddy…… this boy could not be named more aptly. I was the one needing the impulse control to stop myself needing to give him a cuddle and ‘squidge’. Teds has been such a pleasure to watch these last few weeks. Adding to his ability to calm, even with distractions, adding focus too…. Just brilliant.

Last up, our lovely Nessa.
Nessa couldn’t complete foundation due to injury. Being confined, she started with lead frustration but during class, she has been a superstar. What a difference!

So proud, do keep in touch 🐾

Here are JustPuppies Training School’s most recent graduates from Puppy Foundation!

Pumpkin, Lola and Hector!

Pumpkin has to be one of the smiliest puppies I’ve ever met. Such a lovely, friendly girl who every time I looked over to her, was smiling back at me! She has learnt so much over the last few weeks and is also able to focus even when there’s been distractions. Well done Pumpkin!

Lola …… this girl has been laid back and chilled from the moment I met her at week 1. Taking everything in her stride, she’s added to her skills week on week. Learning to keep focused but also giving her some ‘Lola’ time when she needed it. Lola has been a little superstar and also learnt how to be gentle with her mouthing. Super job Lola!

Hector …. This gorgeous boy was very vocal at first but it came from a lack of confidence around the other puppies. So we did what Hector needed from the classes ….space, time and lots of praise and confidence building. The result is life changing, for both Hector and his owners. He’s now enjoying meeting other dogs and has even instigated play with some! So proud!

With our classes, we do things that’s right for your puppy. They are all on their individual journeys, learning lots whilst making friends and coming away from distractions ….. all life skills which they will benefit from in real, everyday life.

I look forward to keeping in touch and seeing you all again soon!

Keep being brilliant

"Good people are those who love animals. Animals are special creatures, and anyone who has had the good fortune to have a relationship with them knows well.

Animal nobility is a real teaching. Thanks to them, we are more modest, more empathetic, more affectionate people. They give us their love unconditionally, without asking for anything in return, they do us good."

JustPuppies Training Schools recent graduates from Puppy Foundation!!

Let’s hear it for the boys 💙💙💙💙

Dougle, Rocky, Bruce & Marley!!

What a fun few weeks it’s been with lots of laughs along the way (not forgetting how much the puppies have learnt too!)

Dougle - Week 1 Mr Little Legs had quite a lot to say for himself but week by week, he gained confidence and was happy to mingle with the other puppies. Party week….. those little legs went like the clappers and he won nearly every race going!! Turbo charged!!

Rocky - this little chap has THE happiest face, but even more so when he has a toy stuffed in his mouth!! Such a clever boy helping teach ‘us stupid hoomans!’ 😉

Bruce & Marley …. What can I say? There was a bromance from the moment they met. Play, play and more play!! Even though they were the perfect playmates, they still learnt how to limit themselves and calm when needed.

Thank you for making the classes just a pleasure to teach and do keep in touch!!

Finally the JustPuppies graduates from Puppy Plus Intermediate class!!

I honestly don’t know where to start with these wonderful puppies.

Firstly let me do my introductions …..

Drum roll please for Reggie, Bamba, George, Luka and Billy!!

Boy, have these amazing pupsters done well over these last few weeks.

When adolescence comes to town, life can become extra challenging. But that challenge is a time to nail the basics (learnt in the foundation class) and then to start adding to those skill sets. And that’s what intermediate class is all about, adding to what that individual puppy can achieve. A group class but with personal journeys!

Listening, focus, redirection, walking politely, not jumping up, impulse control, fading out food, whistle work, calming and building on that bond.

To say it’s been a pleasure to be a part of your training journey is an understatement. Watching your puppies go from strength to strength has been simply beautiful!

Keep being brilliant, keep being a fun team and do keep in touch 🐾

Some more beautiful puppies graduating from JustPuppies Training School…. It’s the turn of Puppy Foundation!!!

What fun we’ve had!!

Super proud to introduce Willow, Bonnie, Rosie, T.J, George & Buddy!

As well as learning lots of life-long skills, these puppies have had such individual journeys. The shy gained confidence, the confident learnt how to redirect their energy into focus and positive behaviours and they all had some off lead play to help with those vital play skills.

I’m so proud of you all…… keep going with all the things you’ve learnt over the last few weeks and keep training fun!!

JustPuppies Training School proudly present the recent graduates of Puppy Foundation (Older Puppy).

These puppies have come on leaps and bounds, learning focus, how to calm, walking nicely on a lead, impulse control…. All taught with fun in mind!

Introducing Tilly, Clyde and Ivy! (We missed you Dennis but hope you can join another class soon).

Keep being brilliant and hope to see you again soon 🐾

Would you like to know how to administer First Aid for your puppy/dog?

A few years ago, there didn’t seem to be anywhere where you could learn these essential skills but now you can!

The course will give you the knowledge of ‘what to do when….’ and can quite literally be a life saver.

Even outside of my Vet Nursing work, I’ve given first aid in many ways from bandaging a cut pad to giving CPR to a cat who’d been involved in an RTA, giving her life and gaining extra time to get to the vets. You never know when you might need it!

If you’re interested, send the girls a message on the advert attached.

A space has come available for tonight’s class at Fringford Village Hall.

If your puppy is under 20wks of age then this could be the class for you.

Covering everything ‘puppy’ and teaching them through positive reinforcement and reward based training, your puppy will have lots of fun and learn lots along the way too.

•Off lead play for well matched puppies
Allowing them to interact naturally and help build confidence whilst practising play skills

•Small classes in a perfectly sized hall
Creating small distractions for the puppies to learn focus plus allowing plenty of time to meet the needs of every individual puppy

•Family friendly so everyone can join in
Children are most welcome and encouraged to help teach their puppies new skills. Super for helping teach both young handler and puppy to learn about each other.

And let’s not forget all the other things …. Sits, downs, stay, wait, settle, recall, leave it, help with biting, jumping up, pulling.

All done with fun in mind!

Ready for another It’s Fun to Follow??

Next up is Willow!

Having just completed Puppy Foundation, Willow and her hooman have been varying their locations to help Willow manage stimulating environments.

Look how content and calm she is in the video clip, focusing, beautiful loose lead and her hooman also gave her ‘go sniff’ time which is hugely important to a puppy’s wellbeing and helps them learn about their surroundings.

If your puppy pulls you to ‘go sniff’, don’t let them ‘go sniff’. It will only reinforce the behaviour you don’t want … pulling!! If they, like Willow ‘go sniff’ politely then this is the perfect scenario.

Well done Willow!! And thank you for sharing your It’s Fun to Follow clip.

Keep being you! 🐾

One of our slightly younger pups now ….

Meet the gorgeous Henry!

Henry LOVES nothing more than a good ole play and he certainly did plenty of that during class!

But when it comes to focus, boy can this little chap focus!!

His hooman started off ‘luring’ him with a treat on the end of his nose. She’s now managing to walk a few steps, treat in hand but tucked up in that ‘neutral …into body’ position and then reward!!

Just wow!! What an achievement at such a young age.

Way to go Henry!! And thank you for sharing your It’s Fun to Follow clip!

See you soon 🐾

20/02/2024

Here’s another wonderful puppy showing us how it’s done!!
No bending down for Sprouts hooman to get the treat on that nose!

You’ll see from the video that hands are in a ‘neutral … to body’ position. This is encouraging Sprout to look up and keep his focus on his hooman.

Also notice how much feedback and praise he’s getting!! Keeping that engagement going.

Just brilliant both and thank you for sharing your It’s Fun to Follow clip 🐾

20/02/2024

This beautiful boy is a typical spaniel. Loves life and loves sniffing!! Spaniels naturally ‘weave’ when they walk to scoop up all of those delightful smells to explore.
Watch how his amazing hooman ‘marks’ with a ‘yesssss’ when he’s creating the position she’s about to reward.
Even manages a ‘leave it’ too when he picked up a random inedible object!!

So super proud and thank you for sharing your Fun to Follow video. This is where love, a strong bond and positive training come together. SuperTed!! 🐾

Want your puppy to learn how to walk ‘nicely’ rather than pulling? With positive reinforcement techniques and reward base...
20/02/2024

Want your puppy to learn how to walk ‘nicely’ rather than pulling?

With positive reinforcement techniques and reward based training, we want to teach our puppies that’s its fun to walk alongside us, rather than doing it for fear of being yanked by the lead or shouted at, the latter using adverse training methods, breaking that all-important bond between you and your puppy.

Instead, let’s teach them what we’d like them to do rather than reprimand them for what we don’t want.

Even without the lead on, have your puppy follow you. Be encouraging in your voice and your facial expressions, puppies watch our body language all the time to pick up on our non verbal cues.

Have your puppy follow you as you walk a few steps forward, rewarding them with a nice tasty treat or playing with a toy. Then change direction and YOU walk backwards, encouraging your puppy to follow you, again reward with tasty treats.

Walking backward is a great way to encourage eye contact between you and your puppy which is essential in any part of training. If your puppy is engaged and looking at you, they’re not being distracted with any external stimulus and are more ready to learn!!

Anyone with a football loving husband/partner will know if they’re not looking at you (as they’re too busy watching the TV) they’re not necessarily going to be listening either!!

Practice around the home to begin with, this will create a non-distractive environment. Then do the same in the garden, gradually increasing the distraction to match your puppy’s newly learnt skill.

Pop their lead on, but keep it loose. Think ‘smiley lead’ 🙂 so there is a small slack, not tight.

Hold their lead in the opposite hand to where your puppy is and have food in your hand next to your puppy, ideally just tucked under your thumb.

Make sure your hand is the same height as your puppy’s nose… any higher and you’ll have a mini kangaroo jumping up trying to get to the treat!!

Changing speed and direction will help keep your puppy interested and engaged. And don’t forget to reward them by giving them the treat and/or playing with a toy.

Make training fun and bring it into everyday life …. It’s Fun to Follow 🐾
