This is Walter - I got a call from a local farmer who I’ve been nurturing a relationship with, saying he had a lamb who had been born quite week and had needed extra care - in the process the farmer developed a soft spot for him and did not want him to end up in a slaughter house.
Of course I agreed to take him in and Walter is now living with his sanctuary family in safety.
This was a really important moment not least for Walter but also the slow steady work that has been done to cultivate a positive presence in the local community and especially with farmers.
It’s vital that we celebrate these moments as wins for the animals, however small amidst the bigger picture.
Imagine if there was a sanctuary in every locality - offering the chance for people who would not normally have the opportunity or awareness - to express compassion towards little angels like Walter.

Carrot time is like ‘elevenses’ (for those old enough to remember). It happens every day and if I was to forget - then I would be in serious trouble with five very big and very vocal Piggies and for whom routine is paramount - they do not forget anything and they are not to be messed with! 💚🐷💚

The Sheep have moved in (all be it with sheep like caution ha ha) Thank you so much to everyone who has been supporting and following this massively significant project for us here.
The vision and intention at Amberwood is to offer the animal residents the best possible experience in terms of providing an environment they feel safe in and one which offers them a life where they can simply be themselves.
This was very much a community project with many people coming together to help in the ways they were able - some with physical labour on site, others through generous money donations and others through simply commenting with words of encouragement and appreciation.
Including all animals in your sphere of compassion, non violence and non commodification can be a lonely path and so moments like this offer the chance to remember that we are not alone - many people are activated to take action in whatever way they are able to work towards changing the current world of cultural norms around our relationship with non human animals… all there is - is to keep on going - keep on loving 🙏🏼💚🥳🐑
