What happens at our “Connection Clinic?”

The basis of any training we do, begins with connection. This clinic teaches you the fundamentals of how we work, the core movements we use to release tension and build connection. All on the ground so perfect for young horse not yet started🤠

From here we have language we can use to help our horse find relaxation and later begin to play, encourage expression and curiosity 💃

These clinics are a great way to get started, as an introduction to ground work and are great way to refine your connection & take your feel and timing to the next level.

We are a Horse development barn focusing on applying horse psychology across all disciplines. About to begin starting young horses so must be competent and already have experience.

Hours available 830-1230 Tuesday, Weds, Sat and Sun all barn duties including poo picking. Often more hours available. Job could be split.

Barn of up to 12 currently in at night but will switch when weather changes so flexibility ideal. Riding possible for the right person in time. Good rates, nice team.

Can’t tell you how happy I am for this gorgeous pair today! 🙌🏻💛

Remember Piccolo the beautiful Andalusian guys that has been with us for a training stay helping him understand that life can be fun and he doesn’t need to be explosive and dangerous… 🚀🧨🔥

Well this week we have his owner and a group of riders with us for a week of intensive training sessions with their horses.

Today Gina and Piccolo hacked out on their own off the property! This horse was explosive to lead let alone ride in an arena so hacking with confidence & connection has taken a long time!! To say I am proud of the two of them would be the understatement of the century! 🤩

They were cool, calm and together regardless of the weather not being easy! 💪🏻

Sometimes you just need a hand to help get to the next step with a horse and for this pair, it has been an absolute pleasure.

Going to miss you guys in the barn! 💛

Not our most glamorous but don’t these horses faces make you smile? 💛

This photo was one I had to share from one of the exercises we are using during our Easter hacking camp to help the horses become confident in groups and with moving together 🙌🏻

This moment is extra special as we started both these boys last summer and their owners are back for a hacking camp to carry on their boys education. Proudest day for Rufus and I following along behind the babies and their owners all independent and self confident! Love my job 🤩

Lots to share about the camp and all the concepts we cover but at the moment it’s all in my stories and on the clinics highlight on instagram so keep your eyes 👀 if you are interested in how to help your horse become the or you always dreamed of! 💪🏻🦄

Awesome Tik Maynard Company we are in the middle of our own horsemanship camp & we watched & cheered you on in our movie night last night! 🙌🏻 session one was such a great show of using approach & retreat to prioritise building connection, curiosity & confidence over flooding & quick results for your lovely little horse even in such a pressured environment.

Really cool to watch! If anyone wants to see how a timed c**t starting competition could feel good for the horse watch Tik on the live stream! 🤠🙌🏻

A big hello to our new followers and happy Friday! 👋 🎉

Thank you for following our page, we are growing a community of people who want to be better for their horses 🙌🏻 So, who are we and what do we do?

We work with thousands of riders and horses to help them better understand their horses, solving problems and achieving the things they dreamed of doing. At home in our barn in Oxfordshire we start horses under saddle, train and rehabilitate horses, often examining the fine line between pain and behavioural problems.

It is in our barn that we have been developing a programme that we use with every horse and rider. From baby to Grand Prix, hacker to eventer. A whole horse approach to training, that focuses on building the two things that we think matter most for every horse, Confidence and Connection.

Our program is the same whether you choose to work with us in person, online or a combination of the two! It all begins with an assessment of who your horse is & how they need you to communicate with them ✨

This spring Horsemanship Camp kicks off today and we are so excited! 🥳

Our horsemanship camps are a really special experience, 4 days fully immersed in horsemanship working on the ground, at liberty and under saddle 🙌🏻

This camp is all about becoming better for your horse. From the way you communicate with them to the strategies you use when working together 💛

Concentrated time allows us to really get to know each partnership. We work together to help you progress towards your goals in a way that prioritises the way your horse feels as much as you do!

We don’t believe in pushing you to do something if it is at the sacrifice of your horse, their relaxation, confidence, or understanding and so throughout the camp we focus on how you can both feel great making progress towards whatever you want to achieve✨

Over the next 4 days we will be sharing mini updates in our stories of the sorts of things we are covering during the camp so even if you couldn’t join us live this time you can see bits of it! 💃

We have a big range of riders here from those that who want help to solving specific behavioural and training problems to those with young or green horses that want to give their horse a really good foundation ⭐️🦄

We start all of our babies from the ground up prioritising confidence, connection, relaxation and understanding. 💕

We believe that before horses are asked to learn new things they need to feel safe and therefore relaxed. They need to be able to connect with us and be given strategies to feel confident in their environment and in understanding our questions 🤗

First rides are done in the halter and ba****ck and we want you to be involved! It’s super important for us to feel like YOU have the strategies to keep going when you leave us through the great bits and the struggles that inevitably come with continuing to develop your own young horse 🤪🦄

We feel very proud that once started owners often come back for clinics, camps and training stays to keep developing themselves and their horses and love continuing to be part of the amazing progress these babies make from not knowing anything to confidently exploring the world with their owners 💪🏻💃

Our start blocks include opportunity to come every week for a private session as well as 3 clinics with other young horses on program so that you can share in each others progress, work in groups and build community experiencing your babies being started together 🙌🏻

Look at him go! 👀

Rufus starting to look like a jumper!

I am so excited to be out training regularly on this guy. Working on the basics over the past year is feeling like it’s starting to pay off! 🤍✔️🐴

His canter is so much stronger so guess what that means… the jumping is SO much easier. 🐎

As the questions get more complex I can really feel the benefits of the very basic and sometimes boring foundation work that we have always prioritised. This last year has been really about helping him develop his canter.

A nice reminder for anyone that needs to hear it; taking the time to develop a really solid foundation in your horses development from their physical to mental or emotional strength although sometimes feels like the boring work always pays off in the long run.

Hacking can be one of the most enjoyable things in the world! But sometimes a negative experience, in experienced horse, or lack of confidence can stop you from fully enjoying it.

Our 4 day hacking camps are designed to take you from the arena to hacking with strategies to help you get your horse connected, relaxed and responsive. We want our horses to be able to handle change, hack with other horses and move over obstacles with confidence.

We move progressively from the arena to our private hack path and then out in to fields and woodland as you learn tools on the ground and under saddle that help your horse stay connected, use it’s body correctly and become the confident explorer you want them to be.

It’s a really fun camp that people always feel gives them a different perspective on how their individual horse sees the world. The goal is to help the horses enjoy hacking as much as we do.

Filming day! 🎬📽️😅 Eek me out of my comfort zone again filming for our online platform Confident and Connected! 🙌🏻✨

The first level in our program is OUT NOW as well as three transformations for you to follow and growing number one offs & ride along audio lessons for ground work, in and around the barn and under saddle 💃

This month we release level 2 ‘The Fundamentals’ and two of the ’20 Goals’ Hacking and Clipping 🐎

The Fundamentals are ALL of our basic movements isolated and broken down into individual elements so they are super easy to learn and teach your horse. We start this on the ground and then it ALL translates directly to the saddle 👌🏻

Each movement is being filmed with a ‘model student’ thanks Rufus 🦄 to show the ‘How To’ then we add extra examples from horses in the barn that are working through the different movements so you can see not only get to see how it ‘should’ look but also the teaching and learning process of lots of different horses at various ages and stages so that its easier to trouble shoot at home when things don’t going according to plan! 🤪

The goals are made up of all of the ‘things’ we believe are essential in developing a horse with a well rounded education and proper foundation. Think or the horse everyone thinks you are lucky to have but the reality is you or someone has spent a huge amount of time, energy and effort helping that horse learn how to be calm, relaxed, connected and confident in the wide range of situations that life in our human world is likely to chuck at them 💪🏻🦄

So excited for the next step of this pairs journey under saddle! 🥳Maggie went home yesterday a confident, connected riding horse which is quite the transformation! 💫

Laura got in touch with us after years of being stuck in limbo because she really didn’t know whether Maggie would ever be able to feel comfortable in her body and happy and relaxed in her mind let alone be started under saddle. 😔

A few months down the line with the right support, time, consistency and a team of professionals that are working in collaboration to put the horse first they are happily enjoying their first rides together! 🙌🏻

Laura has program to follow of slow strength building work at home with Maggie and is coming back to join us on one of our summer hacking camps! 💃

It gives us so much happiness to help horses and riders find a path forwards together especially when sometimes it feels like in the beginning the odds are stacked against it! So excited to see them both enjoying the next chapter 💕

Did you know? 🙋🏼‍♀️💡 January marked the first month of our online platform 🙌🏻🎉

On the platform members are going through the first level of our program which is all about:
💫 Understanding your horse
💫 Noticing what their behaviour is telling you as valuable feedback
💫 Assessing whether they are motivated best through a confidence or connection focused language
💫Finding out how to thread this language into everyday activities
💫Building a way of communicating that make sense for you and your horse that unpins everything you do together.

I’ll be sharing more about all the things I am learning whilst releasing the online program over the coming weeks; it’s been so cool and challenging at times to formalise, break down and interrogate my practice with horses, what I do, when and the all important WHY! 😅 I am constantly learning from the horses we have in the barn and by developing my own practice with my own horses so it’s really awesome to be able to share and document that with those of you that have already joined. Did you know we only have 50 days left of winter…??? 🙏🏻💃🙌🏻

We spent January helping lots of different horses in our barn. From sports horses with big behavioural challenges, talented dressage horses needing understanding to shine, baby horses needing to learn the basics and supporting owners who need an answer to the question so many face; 'Is my horses behaviour caused by pain/ discomfort or lack of understanding/ motivation?'

Our days are always varied and fun (usually quite long 😂) and coupled with the challenges that training horses in winter in the UK brings 😳💨☔️⛈️😵‍💫

Despite the difference in ALL of these horses they ALL need the same thing to begin with and that is; to feel safe. Horses need to feel so that they can let go of tension and emotion and feel able to learn new things, handle change and cope with pressure; thats both environment pressure and pressure from us.

This month with our online platform members we are exploring this topic in more depth. Noticing the small things that make a big difference to the horses, the little signs that horses give all the time that tell us whether they feel ok or not. Once we start to notice these little signs we can use them as feedback to help our horses feel both self confident and connected to us and themselves ❤

New year new Intros! 👋🏻

I’m Hanna Walton & I want to help you enable your horse to be Confident and Connected so that you can achieve your goals in partnership💫

7 things you might not know about me🧐

1) I got into horsemanship 25 years ago because of a bolting OTTB. She took me on a 20yr journey into horsemanship and away from eventing (the reason I bought her!) which has come back full circle as I now blend horsemanship and eventing 🎉
2) I lived in the US, Europe, & Switzerland in my 20s working for cowboys, c**t starters and eventers, horsemen & women - a time I am very thankful for 🙏🏻
3) I grew up on one of the world most remote islands, St Helena & rode to school on a donkey called Rupert in a saddle my Dad made…sorry Rupert!! 😳
4) I learnt to ride on rescue horses, the owner gave them a second chance at life in her school. They lived out 24/7, there was no arena. I was her helper from age 9 she put me on all the ‘crazy’ ones until they were calm enough to go into the school 🤠
5) I made my first halter aged 10 after watching a Monty Roberts demo.
6) I have a degree in Fashion Business (that I use every day 😉
7) In my early 30’s I worked in fashion and education, writing educational learning programs for brands like Burberry and John Lewis. I started horses, taught, & rode as a side hustle. At that time, I never thought I would use the knowledge I was gaining in my ‘non horsey’ job but it’s enabled me to create our online program!

2023 felt like a year of building; we built a new barn, built on our client base, built our complete foundation program, our clinic schedule, & our lives back after 3 very turbulent years! (UK Lockdowns, broken pelvis and lost our last home when the roof blew off, all for another post 🤦‍♀️) We came into 2023 feeling worn out, questioning whether we were on the right path & a bit beat up BUT still with hope and determination.

In 2024 I am coming in feeling strong and determined 💪🏻

I love that this page is growing fast so whether you have joined recently, or we have known you a long time please introduce yourself and your horse & share a bit about your 2024 feeling… hopefully we can help each other achieve our goals with our horses 🤩

Happy New Year 💫💃🥳

I can’t quite believe how fast 2023 came and went! It has been wonderful to see many of you for clinics, lessons and training stays in the barn! Our barn has been full throughout the year and we love being able to help so many different types of horses. From pre-starts & babies starting under saddle to horses in training and restarts needing help working through more extreme behaviours.

We have enjoyed helping riders with their confidence out hacking, developing relationships through our connection clinics and delving deeper into horse psychology and fun stuff like bridleless riding and liberty in our horsemanship camps! This years schedule is now on our website 🎉we hope to see you in 2024!
