Tufty leading the way for Calypso. Most of the time he’s very useful but the rest of the time he’s thinking about his belly 🥲😂

Calypso first time riding out, she’s been really good leading out and being led out alone. So today was the day we ventured under saddle. I began leading her and tufty and once we got along the tarka trial and she was happy I got on. She was fantastic and we even did a trot, then after a short way I asked her to pull up, which was fine, then turn around to go home. That’s when the issues started, very odd she didn’t want to come back at all. She eventually went and when we got back to the road after an arguement of getting off the tarka trial I gave in and hopped off to lead her, she led ok and I stopped and got on again, after that we walked up the road fine until we saw horses in the field, she napped again but this time we went bolt upright rear and walked. Very random and out of the blue, so for our safety I had no choice but to hop off and lead her just across the road to our yard, I lead her down half way to the yard and got on again, we walked forward a bit and then because there was new things going on in the yard my landlord actually had to lead us, she was a bit wound up by the new things. So although she was a pleb coming home, I’m glad she enjoyed the going out part, and I’m glad that’s not the problem! Over all I’m super pleased to share an update.

Over the moon with how Calypso is coming along now. Look at how well she stands to be mounted now. She’s not fussed about any big machinery. I stood her next to my partner Henry whilst he gunned off some wheel nuts off a car and stood her right next to him and she did one initial little jump and then was fine for all the rest. Amazing little pony really. Still terrified of the haylage bales so I’ll just keep working on that 🤣 and we are improving on being alone, it’s nice I can finally work on her and her be comfortable enough with me alone. Blue ran off into the field at one point and all she did was spin around because she could hear my voice but wanted me next to her, once she stood I dismounted and we walked off together alone fine. She needs someone to tell her it’s ok and then she’s great. She’s just green and not done much I guess. This is a breakthrough and a half!!! Excuse her bloody hoof, we are still working on being left in the stable alone, she did stay in this time mind, we will get there with that issue I think. Luckily only a minor injury, idiot pony! Videos to come. She was really ace today. Love it when you really start to click with a more challenging pony. She’s so sweet just full of anxiety which is slowly improving 🫶❤️

I forgot to upload these yesterday. Whoops. Typical weather got worse but this is Cali first time doing things WITHOUT poppy. Over the moon. She even stayed in the yard whilst I talked to mum and although she would really stand still she wasn’t too bothered about being alone. She’s finally settled and me and her are getting a bond. She’s fantastic in traffic, but hates the haylage bales lol.

Poppy was amazing today. She definitely needs a firm and confident rider, we even had a canter a couple of times. Really enjoying riding this pony, I am really going to miss her when she goes back 😞 remember Poppy is looking for a forever or long term home with the charity Healing Hooves Devon registered charity 1172922-Paused

Calypso a few videos. She was totally different and totally relaxed walking around. She’s a bit sensitive sometimes but seems to work well when I just get on with things. 🙂 cute little mare.

Calypso this evening, much calmer with everyone around her. Even managed to do a walk about too!
We have been practicing mounting and she only went and showed me up on the video lol 😂
She did really well.

Incredibly Cali got out again, so I’m splitting them up if I can tomorrow. Poppy was ace, tried it in a couple times but once I was on board and told her to just basically get on with it she was fab. She likes to be busy :)

Notice how you don’t hear Cali get out, at all. I still don’t know how she managed it 🤣 lesson learnt. These two are a nightmare and need to learn to work alone. Poppy did really well and when she’s busy she is great! Super pleased.

We had some drama today … both girls were really well behaved but umm I’ll share the video later 🤣

On board Poppy she is excellent but still a bit hyper, hopefully she starts to settle down soon, she’s going to be a fast pony.

On board Calypso as well, I am certain she hasn’t been backed previously so I am over the moon I got on her sat up. :)))

The more I watch the more I reckon Cali hasn’t been backed for long in her previous years. So she did incredibly well. I know what sort of pace to go with her now, she’s such a sweet pony.

Day 1
Poppy was amazing and took everything in her stride, I basically just tacked her up and got in.
Cali was a little more nervous and mouthed at the bit for ages. They have both meant to have been ridden before but with Cali she is acting like she doesn’t know. Hopefully she does remember everything!

I like to push the first day and see what works best for each pony, seeing as poppy took everything in her stride I know I can push her more with riding whereas Cali I will take back to the basics.

Videos soon just got to put them all together as they’re long.

Two newbies join the boys today. Poppy (bay) and Cali (skewbald) both other and have been previously ridden many years ago. They have come from Healing Hooves Devon which is a local charity just outside of Tiverton. They will be looking for homes preferably together because they’re best friends.
Any guesses on breeding?

Pipers first trot, she went all by herself, often I will allow them if they’re relaxed as the horse is usually aware of what they’re comfortable doing. Piper is more than ready for road work.

Piper is the most outstanding youngster ever. Doing lots with them as babies really does make all the difference. Please never be afraid to throw all and everything at them. :)

That’s one super happy young lady. Very rewarding with such a difficult pony. I love working with owners. Milo was fantastic. Piper even better. Couple of videos to come. 🙂

About myself

My name is Philippa but I am most known as ‘P’ locally. I am 23 years old and I still own my first pony Ginty, who I got when I was 5 years old. I thoroughly enjoy working with horses and find it very rewarding - even on the bad days.

I also have a love for Guinea pigs, as well as taking in rescue horses I also take in guinea pigs. I am obsessed with my guinea pigs, its my other mad little passion.
