Good morning all, since we closed to new admissions we have had several more in. (So I guess we aren't really closed 🤣)
Thank you all for the donations we have received and to local businesses, Morrisons, Creature comforts, braunton co-op and Magpie & Hook
We are however very low on wet cat food.
For example yesterday we used around 50 sachets 😮
In addition to 6 tins of the royal canin puppy starter mousse for the youngsters.
We are also low on the royal canin mother and baby cat biscuits.
So if you are able, currently food would be most welcome ☺️🦔
Video is Ben self anointing taken by one of our volunteers ❤️
🦔 volunteering opportunity 🦔
We have found ourselves in the position of needing more volunteers, mainly for Monday - Friday.
It would be a few hours a day so it could be 1 person doing all week or several people doing 1 day a week.
Some of our petroc students have finished and two of our regular volunteers have other commitments so now have reduced availability.
If this is something you are interested in please message Tina Hawkins to arrange a visit and a chat.
Video of Ben for attention ☺️
Tune into radio Devon tomorrow morning around 10:20.
Savannah is doing an interview about Hedwig's Hotel Hedgehog Rescue on the breakfast show. 🦔🦔🦔
Good news release post,
This week both Jake and Squelch have been released. These have been residents for a while,
Squelch got himself stuck down a post hole and was covered in hard mud
He had tried so hard to get out he had worn his nails and the tips of his toes off.
After treatment he had to stay as we had to make sure he would be able to survive in the wild and be able to forage.
Jake's story is similar, minus the mud but he initially looked like he didn't have any eyes. This was purely from dehydration. He got himself stuck at a school and was unable to get out so also had worn toes and nails.
After treatment he also had to have claws to be able to forage.
Happily, they have now both been released which is brilliant as we weren't sure this would be possible.
The video is from the release garden and Squelch is out and Jake joins him.
Good luck Squelch and Jake
As always you can donate via our pinned post through PayPal or bank transfer and on our website www.hedwigshotel.co.uk
Another local rescue is also full and cannot take any more hedghogs 😞
She does have people who over winter hedgehogs, this would be people with enclosed indoor areas such as insulated sheds or stables that the hedgehog can live safely in over winter without getting too cold as they are unlikely to hibernate. They would be fed and watered throughout. This gives them more space away from our hogspital rooms.
It's something we haven't thought about before so if you have something that sounds like it would suit and you are interested please comment here and I will pm you when I can.
Haven't really decided yet and I'm not sure exactly how many will still be here but it could possibly free up some space for hogs that need to be treated or are too small and need special care.
Videos, first of the old hogspital being removed.
In the comments, video of where we had to get everything from and to. Then of the concrete slope being removed ☺️
So much for us having a caravan for holidaying, we had to give it away 😞

Good evening all,
Just a quick update on our 4 orphaned hoglets...
It's early days still so we are still keeping our fingers crossed but this video shows the little guys, who are now just under 200 grams!
We want to thank everyone who has contributed to our JustGiving so far — it allows us to continue to focus on our resident hogs! Everything is always much appreciated, and goes towards the care of our hedgehogs.
Our fundraising page is linked below if you would like to contribute towards our Summer expenses!

Here’s a video of one of our four orphaned babies learning to lap for himself — As always with rearing orphans, it can be touch and go, but our little guys are giving us every reason to be optimistic!
They’re drinking a milk substitute, NOT cows milk.
Since their arrival at 33-35 grams, they’ve each put on about 20 grams and their eyes are beginning to open! Even though they’re still needing two-hourly feeds around the clock, they’re starting to look much more like real hedgehogs.
You’re able to support our work (and these babies) by clicking the links below or sharing our post!

Well done Savannah for the great interview today on the Voice Radio. You're a star ###
Little One Eating her Dinner
We want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has liked/shared/donated to our JustGiving fundraiser! Between JustGiving and PayPal, you’ve helped us completely smash our ambitious £600 goal.
Little One would also like to say thank you…
Little One came to us after being found in Barnstaple and from the moment she was dropped off, it didn’t look good. Her weight alone (215g) indicated that she was 5-6 weeks old. She was cold, dehydrated and extremely malnourished.
We started with injectable fluids every few hours to stabilise her, as well as continuous warmth. Little One was unable to eat or drink by herself, so we handfed her every 1-2 hours, all through the day and night.
The first week was extremely touch and go — even with heat and supportive care, she wasn’t improving. She would put on 2-3g every night, but was still so so fragile.
After a week of intensive care, constant heat, fluids and medications, Little One began to lap at liquid food by herself. We were able to slowly wean her off of handfeeding and her weight began to shoot upwards. One more week later, and she was off of her heatpad and eating regular cat biscuits. It also became clear that she was much older than 5-6 weeks — she was more like 5-6 months.
Now, she’s 704g and ready for release pending a couple more checks and mild weather!
You can continue to donate to our JustGiving or PayPal below, but this is mainly just a post to say THANK YOU for all of your support in ensuring we have the funds to keep caring for sick and injured hedgehogs brought to us.
The video below is of Little One eating cat food chunks — a milestone we weren’t sure she would make.
