We take our time breaking in the young horses. We might not go as quickly as others, but I genuinely believe it pays off in the long run. The horses go at their own pace, and very rarely do we run in problems.
Nothing worse than pictures of a horse being ridden for the 2nd time, forced into an outline with white sweat coming out of it!

Literally what a clever cookie! First time in a saddle for cookie, no trouble at all πŸͺ

2nd of our foals has been weaned. Going to a lovely local family which will be so nice for us to see her grow up, as last year the shetlands went to Manchester, Wales and Devon!!

It's weaning time here, so that means the most important pony on the stud earns his keep.
Each foal gets weaned individually, so they get the full amount of time and handling put into them. They all start this process being accompanied by the wonderful Gizmo
Gizmo was a dummy foal who we bred. No idea how he survived but he did. He also has had numerous attempts at death since then! He has always not had the best health so we would never ever sell him, and he does such and important job in setting them foals up.
Here is baby Gizmo at 3 weeks old. Seems a long time ago

Busy weekend for us, great double clear for my own Wispa and stepping up a height. Very pleased with this difficult mare!
Today we took ponies up to the end of season championship show. Quite disappointing but that's life!

Off we went to Blair on Friday for some pretty horrific conditions to jump in. Outlaw was a star and produced on of the few double clears.
Pozie was in the NPS finals against the standards shetlands so I knew we would get looked over ! So nothing for her sadly.
Very glad the next outing for horses and ponies is on a surface.
Photo of better weather

A trip out for Wispa at the weekend, who hasn't been out for awhile due to a very nasty abcess that burst to leave a large wound! A step up in height for her though and finished 5th in both her classes. Hopefully continue the way she is going and move her up again soon.

Next our of our foals for next year is Hjaltland Fearn x Gardie Moonstep.
Fearn has been a great mare for us and has always been in the rosettes, including a very credible 3rd at last years SPSBS breed show. She has produced 2 foals that have stood foal champion including one that we have retained.
Gardie Moonstep need no introduction. Only being out of the championship once this year (and that was a 3rd at RHS). He is champion in the ring and leaves me with super foals, he is also a delight to handle, and moves beautifully

Today/yesterday is a difficult day for horse sport, and I genuinely worry about the future and what will happen?
Luckily the horses here are none the wiser, and are oblivious to the news!
We just keep trying to raise happy horses to make happy humans!

These are not in correct order, as well all know horses don't play by the rules, but are expected combinations for next year.
Ballingown Estella x Jetstar
Estella aka stelly is a lovely big Irish bred mare by the 1m60 stallion Future Trend (I love you). Stelly was brought over by a 5* event rider, and started a very promising event career. She then sadly suffered any injury that meant she wouldn't return to competition. She bred a stunning foal for her owners, and then very kindly has come to me.
Jetstar has jumped up to 1m30 and is Cardento/burgaraff bred. His career has been limited in recent years due to human factors, and undoubtedly would have jumped bigger tracks over time.
This will be a big foal, with alot of power and scope. Will be retained if a black filly 🀣
