Keep your pets safe this festive season ☃️

🎄Keep chocolates, decorations, fairy lights and presents out of reach of your pet. Electric cables and broken baubles can cause serious injury. The liquid in snow globes is also highly toxic!
🎄Be aware of Christmas foods and plants that are poisonous to your pet - like the classic poinsettia and chocolate.
🎄Avoid tinsel, especially with cats, they will be tempted to play with this and may eat it which can cause blockages and make them very ill
🎄Keep that turkey dinner for the two legged family members. Meat bones can cause blockages and rich foods they are not used to can cause digestive issues.

Wishing you and your pets a very safe and merry festive season! 🎅

Meet the team

Sarah joins the Armac team from mixed practice in Fife. Some of you will already have met her on farm or in the practice. This little hedgehog was grateful for a feed and warm up form Sarah when handed in. He should be going into hibernation around now. Keep a look out for hedgehogs in leaves before you dispose of them and if they are still around after the frost give us a call. 🍁🍂🦔

🎆If your pet is scared of fireworks then call us for advice or book an appointment with your vet, allowing plenty of time before bonfire night.
🎆 If your pet usually gets medication to help with their nerves at this time of year then don't delay in getting their prescription🐾 Remember: we need at least 24 hours for prescription requests, bearing in mind your pet may need a health check first if we haven't seen them in a while.
🎆Have you ever tried calming supplements or plug ins such as Calmex? Trying these for your pet on the run up to firework season can help with those nerves.

🎆 Top Tips to Help Your Pet Through Fireworks 🎆

Fireworks can be a stressful time for our furry friends, but with a little preparation, you can help them feel safe and secure. Here are some tips to ease their anxiety:

🐾 Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy area in your home where your pet can retreat if they feel scared. A room with closed windows, soft blankets, and familiar toys will help them feel more secure.

🎶 Calm with Sounds: Play soothing music or white noise to drown out the sound of fireworks. It can help distract and relax your pet.

🦴 Distract with Treats & Toys: Keep your pet entertained with their favorite chew toys or treats. A long-lasting puzzle toy or treat can help keep them focused and less anxious.

🦮 Stay Calm Yourself: Pets pick up on our emotions. Try to stay calm and act normally to reassure them that there’s no need to be afraid.

🚶‍♂️ Exercise Before the Fireworks: A nice long walk or play session before the fireworks start can help tire your pet out, so they’re more relaxed during the noise.

🦴 Consider Calming Aids: There are various natural calming aids, like pheromone sprays, supplements, or anxiety wraps, that can help reduce stress. Contact the surgery for more information.

❤️ Stay Close: If possible, stay home with your pet during the fireworks. Your presence is one of the most comforting things for them!

Let’s keep our pets safe and calm this fireworks season! Share if you found these tips helpful! 🐶🐱

🚨 Autumn Pet Safety Alert! 🍂🐾

As the days get cooler and leaves start to fall, there are a few hidden dangers every pet owner should be aware of:

❌ Antifreeze (Ethylene Glycol): This sweet-tasting substance can leak from cars and is highly toxic to pets, even in small amounts. Keep it stored securely and clean up any spills immediately.

❌ Conkers (Horse Chestnuts): While fun to collect, conkers can cause blockages or be poisonous if ingested. Be cautious on walks and make sure your pet doesn’t pick them up.

❌ Mouldy Leaves & Garden Waste: Piles of damp leaves or compost can harbor harmful mould that produces mycotoxins, which are dangerous to pets if ingested.

❌ Chocolate: With Halloween approaching, remember chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats. Keep all treats out of reach!

❌ Raisins: keep those hot cross buns to yourself! Raisins are highly toxic to dogs and cats.

Stay vigilant and keep your furry friends safe this autumn! If they eat any of these contact us immediately 🍁🐕🐈
