Social Walk Saturdays! πππ
We had an excellent walk in the sun this weekend on our social walk around @pparkmuseum.
We have an incredible bunch of regulars on our walk this time and all the dogs made some great choices time and time again!
Because we know the dogs we have in the group quite well by this point, and they were ready, we let the energy increase in the pack gradually as we went. Each time allowing small amounts of play and positive interactions then returning to a calm and relaxed energy in the pack.
We always try to include a fun activity or challenge on our walks and this week it was to switch dogs and practice handling skills. The people had to put into practice all their skills to engage with their borrowed dog and it allowed the dogs to build confidence being away from their owners.
The owners got excellent opportunities to practice engagement with their dogs in a high energy environment, the dogs and owners learnt what is and isn't appropriate play, why it's important to interrupt before the interaction can become negative, and the dogs just got to enjoy being dogs!
All of these owners are working through or have worked through their own reactivity journey and it's always incredible to see how far everyone has come!
Do you want to be able to understand your dogs behaviour and how best to help them?!
We have some behavioural assessment spaces left for Friday 20th & Monday 23rd September in Yorkshire!
Flint's reactivity was getting worse and we didn't know how best to help him. We worked with @jess_probst_ and @honesthounds to help us understand what was going on with him and how to help him manage his very cocky and chompy feelings around other dogs and now he is a socially acceptable member of society!
If you want to be able to have the life you want with your dog, comment 'BEHAVIOUR' π

Throwback Tuesday!
This clip is from our residential last year with @jess_probst_ where we completely changed how we interacted with Flint to focus more on behaviour and having fun together rather than obedience and micromanagement!
This week was incredible for us in so many ways with a huge amount of firsts
- we were able to learn how to change Flint's mindset about other dogs and be able to have him off lead around other dogs.
- he was able to move to be in a pack of dogs unmuzzled and free to make the right choices.
- he even chose to swim for the first time, he had swimming lessons but never really enjoyed it. During the week we changed our relationship so much he chose to swim out to me because that's how much fun we were having together!
This week also changed our lives too as it gave me the confidence to launch Proper Paws Dog Training, I became an @honesthounds affiliate trainer and now I spend my time helping other people change how they interact with their dog to focus on fun and engagement so they can live the life they want with their dog!
If you want to find out how to live the best life with your dog, comment 'relationship' below and I'll send you a message!

P.s. Tusi needed a dip, she was getting a bit warm π
Do you need help with your dog? Do you understand their behaviour and what drives it? Do you want a big picture approach to tackle the root cause of the behaviour?
Before I joined @honesthounds, we were struggling with identifying why Flint was reacting the way he was and we were just tackling the behaviours and not the root cause.
This led to all of us becoming more frustrated as we weren't helping him with the underlying issues and were just correcting the behaviour through obedience.
With Honest Hounds, we were able to give Flint a safe space to fail, learn where he was going wrong and deal with the underlying issues that led to the behaviour.
We now have a very different dog that is able to make the right choices, is much more relaxed and can happily coexist in a pack of dogs unmuzzled!

Another really nice social walk today πππ
All the dogs and humans did really well reading each other's body language and were able to communicate well with each other.
All the dogs continue to advance and learn from each other to coexist peacefully and its nice to see the dogs learning how to play appropriately with each other.
The handlers are all catching up to the changes their dogs have made and starting to relax realising that their dogs know how to make the right choices in the moment ππ»
If you'd like to join one of our social walks, drop me a message or contact @honesthounds to see if there is one coming near you! π

π Recall Workshop π
Do you wish you could trust your dog to run free and know that you can recall them no matter what is going on?
Flint and Hugo are running wild and enjoying themselves around this field, but the moment they are called, they start heading straight back to us.
My top priority of dog training is teaching people how to meet the needs of their dogs in a safe and positive manner. A huge part of this is being able to run around, having the freedom to sniff or play, but we can only achieve this with reliable recall.
Come along and learn the skills you'll need to teach your dog a strong and reliable recall π
If you'd like to join in, you can book in here

Make sure you don't miss out, there are limited spaces available.

Herding Breeds & Livestock
Rottweilers have a long history dating back to the Roman times where they were used to herd and protect livestock.
To achieve this, we need to start desensitizing them young to ensure they stay calm and switched on, and know how to behave appropriately around the animals.
Ember has met horses before, but for the first time, these were more her size. She did really well saying hello to them whilst checking in regularly and at the end she even tried to play politely with them. At that point I recalled her away so she couldn't practice this and create an undesirable behaviour.

How do you train a deaf dog?
Actually there is not much difference at all. From a number of studies, it has been identified that dogs learn from visual stimuli much quicker than verbal. This means when trying to teach your dog, you need to be aware of your body language and what movements you're doing as the dog will learn these cues so much quicker than the verbal cue. This is why consistency is so important because if we aren't consistent, the dog will struggle to understand what is being asked of it.
Henry is completely deaf, yet by using body language, lead pressure and visual cues, he is able to learn exactly the same as any other dog. Instead of a yes or good, he gets a thumbs up, for the rest of the behaviours, I use the exact same visual cues as Flint & Ember ππ
