Kelly Connon, one of our fabulous supporters has secured a place in the London Marathon this year, and has chosen Dunrunnin as one of the charities she is running for. Hopefully Kelly will have a bit more stamina than a greyhound, but if you can spare a couple of pounds, we and the greyhounds would really appreciate it. Go Kelly! 🏃🏼‍♀️🐾

You may remember a post last year about our little trio of long term resident girlies, well happily Ruby found her forever home, but Patsy and Whitney are sadly still waiting. Here’s a little information about them.
Patsy is a 4 year old beautiful brindle who has now been with us coming up for 500 days. She’s a super character who knows her own mind and likes her own space. This means she can sometimes tell other dogs off for invading that space uninvited, she’ll give them a grumpy growl to say back off but she will immediately stop after a firm no from her handler. For all her sometimes grouchiness towards other dogs, she absolutely ADORES any attention, cuddles, strokes from anyone, large or small. She has a strong bond with our volunteer Keith, and has weekly sleepovers which include afternoon trips out all over the place - she’s a well travelled girl and walks nicely. At Keith’s she has always behaved impeccably, clean, and slept through the night. We think Patsy would be better suited to be an only dog.
Whitney is a 6 year old white and blue girl, who on first meeting seems quiet and unassuming. She has been with us for just over a year. She walks beautifully by your side, and loves a gentle stroke but never pushes for it. However, she does love a little play in the run, but she does take a little time to come out of her shell. Although Whitney can live with another greyhound (and happily shares her kennel), she does not like other breeds and can become reactive if she’s in a situation with a strange dog where she feels uncomfortable. This is fear-based so Whitney needs someone confident and experienced who will be able to give her the reassurance that you’ve got her back, so that she feels safe and doesn’t need to react negatively. She just needs someone to give her a chance and work with her patiently and she will repay you with all the love in her heart (which is a lot!). Whitney has just had her first trip out and sleepover at Keith’s and she was a very good girl on all counts and actually had to be woken up at 7am as she was so comfy!
Both these girls really deserve their own people, they’ve been waiting far too long, so if you think you have space in your heart for either of them, please give us a call or message us and come and meet them.

As we see out 2024, so many rehoming centres have struggled this year to keep their doors open and continue to find loving homes for all in their care. Whilst our numbers are down we are proud to announce that we have still managed to find forever homes for a grand 75 hounds this year, and we are immensely grateful to all our staff, supporters, volunteers and of course the people who open their hearts and homes to this amazing breed and have made this number possible. We go into the new year sadly still not having homed our longest residents Patsy and Whitney (both with us over a year), but we have everything crossed that it won’t be very long until they both have their own sofas.
The Dunrunnin team would like to wish you all a 2025 filled with happiness, good health, wealth and many more hounds - go on, you know you want to 😉🥰🍾

WE NEED YOU!

For our Charity Of The Year programe in 2024, we had the pleasure of supportingBarley Greyhound Sanctuary - Essex. We are very pleased to have, with your help, raised £134 for the amazing work they do in helping hounds find their forever homes.

While it may not seem like much, if we take into account it was our first year operating, we are thrilled to have been able to help in any small way and are looking forward to a bigger and better 2025...which means it is now time for us to choose our new Charity Of The Year and we need your help!

We are looking to support a registered charity in the UK that:
- Is a small independent charity
- Is up to date with their charity commission reporting/accounts
- Rehomes or supports the rehoming of greyhounds/sighthounds
- Has a proven record of utilising donations in the best interest of the dogs
- Has a proven record of supporting their staff and volunteers
- Is supportive and inclusive of equal rights, minority groups and mental health
- Does not support or promote the use of dominance/aversive training techniques and tools

If you think you know the perfect charity, tag them in the comments!

Nominations will be accepted until midnight on the 31st December 2024.

**Please note that this is not a vote, our team will review the nominations and come to an internal majority vote to choose the charity for 2025.**

Despite the atrocious weather on Sunday, we had an amazing turn out from our fantastic supporters at our annual Christmas Fayre. We raised an awesome £3,000 which will all go directly to making our beloved hounds lives the best we can while they’re in our care. Of course we couldn’t achieve this without our brilliant volunteers who donate not only all their proceeds, but their precious time making lovely items to sell - we are truly grateful to you all. We’d also like to thank the local companies who always turn up to support us, we really do appreciate it! Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎄

Little Dory had a day out at Lullingstone today with our volunteers Fiona and Jane. They met up with a dog walker friend and Dory joined the pack and walked with them like a pro! Unfortunately she hasn’t quite mastered her photo shoot ‘looking at the camera’ pose yet, bless her. Dory is 4 years old and has been with us quite a while now, but looks like she could fit right in anywhere. Fingers crossed her forever home is just around the corner 🤞💕. If you would like to come and meet Dory or any of our other hounds looking for a home please contact us via Messenger, or email us on [email protected]

After a very quiet Summer, we’ve had a cracking start to Autumn with 10 of our lovely hounds being rehomed or reserved over the last couple of weeks, so congratulations to Arrow, Jonjo, Betsy, Blobby, Eddie, Scotty, Vera, Bobby, Sparrow and Roo 🥳. Sadly though our little girl trio who are our longest residents weren’t the chosen ones and are still waiting patiently. Patsy, Ruby and Whitney are all coming up to their one year anniversary with us and have put at the top of their Christmas list their very own sofa (with accompanying humans to snuggle), so we’re all hoping that their wishes come true and they get the love they all deserve so much very soon 🤞🙏🏻💓
If you would like to meet any of our beautiful hounds, please contact us on [email protected]

We have two events this Saturday where we will have Dunrunnin stalls and you can meet some of our current residents, the Fringe Festival and the Stansted Fete (including dog show) - details of both below. Ian at Sidcup and Fiona at Stansted would love to see you so please pop along and say hello 🐾🐾

29/08/2024

Say hello to our current longest resident, beautiful brindle Patsy (or Perfect Patsy as she is fast becoming). Patsy has been with us for 330 days, and is a proper little character. At 4 years old, she definitely knows her own mind and likes her own space, so can sometimes tell other dogs off for invading that space uninvited, this just means she’ll give them a grumpy growl to say back off but she will immediately stop after a firm no from her handler. She does, however, share a kennel with another grey quite happily. For all her grouchiness towards other dogs at times, she sure makes up for it with her attitude towards humans - she absolutely ADORES any attention, cuddles, strokes from anyone, large or small. She has recently been out on a few adventures with our volunteer Keith, and often has a queue of people waiting to pet her, so evident is her joy at getting all the attention. She has also had a sleepover at Keith’s at which she behaved impeccably, clean, and slept through the night. The only slight issue is that she is a bit of a kleptomaniac - not a chewer but she liked to ‘acquire’ several items and take them to her bed. Her new owners may need to nail their valuables down 🤣🤣. If you think Patsy would fit perfectly into your lives, you would get yourself a little girl who would love you forever, so please get in touch and come and meet her.

Hi All,
The next Group walk is scheduled for Sunday 18th August, at Trosley Country Park. Meet in the overflow car park at 10:30 for a 10:45 start.
Usual request please, no retractable leads, and muzzles if your dog is reactive as we meet lots of other breeds.
It’s likely to be warm, so please bring some water.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the weather, in case we need to cancel.

We look forward to seeing you there.
