WORD RECALL WITH APOLLO.
Just me and the big man on today's walk. When I am doing a walk with just one dog, I like to practice recall.
Today we was testing the verbal instead of the physical (lead) testing if he's listening when I asked for something.
Also, he can do a direct recall now, not an in-direct one with the finish command coming into place.
Freedom comes with knowing the outcome of commands you train, then to test them in environments.
Dog Walking should have training aspects attached.
HOLIDAYS!!
So, just to restate the video, I'll be off from the 22nd of August until 30th August, guys.
Me & Ann will be in Scotland after 2 years, finally taking a holiday and also Wednesday 1st time going on holiday with us & Ann's first time in Scotland.
I'll also be attending the @roddy_kirk_be_pack_leader & @larrykrohn seminar over the first 3 days.
The last time this was held was many years ago before I was a trainer, and also, when I was flat broke working in McColls so being able to attend this time is a great feeling.
I'll be messaging all my pack dogs and clients closer to the time to remind you of my holidays. 🤟🏾🤟🏾

Apollo finished up our walk enjoying the crate fan we bought to test out.
The heat is hitting 27 degrees today, which is dog killing weather guys. Every year, I see people walking dogs on pavement that you could cook an egg on.
Keep those dogs cool and safe.

So everything is covered in the video. Group Class will be on this week, guys, so the location will be announced by Sunday.

So, just to go over what I've said. I will be off next week and only doing my walks. As Ann will be coming home on the Sunday Afternoon.
The week after, I'll probably be on reduced hours still, but I will let everyone know closer the time.

TUESDAY WORK.
As always, morning pack walk with the crew before it got too hot. The best thing about the woods is its helping keep the dogs cool, which means longer walking for them, not having to worry about increased people as this is private woodland.
1st walk with Apollo working on that indirect recall and follower state of mind. Always building a relationship first like any dog I walk. Another dog, who walkers wouldn't deal with, but how could I say no to Apollo.
Finally, Max, who was able to relax with me in the home, we worked on his training plan, both with his owner and some social work, to help with his barking at dogs during walks.
Keep them dogs cool and safe, guys, and remember, I am on reduced hours ATM until Ann is back up and running 🙏🏾
QUICK ANNOUNCMENT!!
So, as explained in the video, I have been making a lot of edits with my walks and packs.
This is due to being a very busy ATM with dogs that need help and dogs that need social rehab and walks.
Ann is due to have her operation on 24th June and will need a few weeks' recovery and then time to get back to 100%.
So, making these adjustments means I can still work with clients and also be home for her and my dogs. Thanks to those clients who have moved, and my apologies for the change.
If I open walking slots and any pack slots, I'll keep everyone updated.
TUESDAY WORK!!
Today was a mix of different work here at Birkenhead K9.
I am starting my day off with a pack walk, which always helps me when I have a rehab work or cases on. Walking in the woods and watching the dogs build stronger bonds with each other.
Solo walk with Barry, who is being neutered this week, and we will begin re introducing him to the pack once he has recovered. But as always practising his recall, making it as strong as possible.
Honey & Willow working in-house on Honeys reactivity to men, which went awesome as we didn't have one reaction, and she was able to get fully off lead with me in the house. Working with Willow is a puppy and building a strong pack bond in the family.
Next up was video consultations for new clients this week. Starting with Fester, we will be helping him overcome some reactivity issues he has developed with people and dogs. This is followed by Apollo, who we will be helping re socialise after not being able to go to daycare and dog walkers refusing to walk him, so I'll be rehabilitating him with some training. I'm getting started with them this week.
I love being busy and helping more people achieve balance with their dogs once they understand how dogs work. Please make sure you book in with Ann or our email to avoid waiting and get the help you need.

1st SUMMER GROUP CLASS!!
So, with a small group, I really challenged the guys with closing distance and reading body language of their dogs.
As all my clients know I don't like their training to be too easy and always try to push and challenge them.
This was more of a refresher than an actual class giving these guys a head start before next week. I never seem to start group class at the right time.
This week was in half term 🤦🏾♂️so I'll try to keep this in mind for winter.

STAR & HEEL.
Working heel before we work reactivity with dogs. Star must first understand what we want before we expect her to do anything in the real world.
After our consultation, Stars engagement is much better, and today, we were able to focus on their heel work. As always, Star picked it up very quickly.
Now, they have the foundation to work on. We're able to then test it with dogs on our next session using my own pack for her to practice with.

BARRY THE RUGBY DOG!!
For those who have watched older posts of Barry. Giant Schnauzer, whose owner was struggling to find someone who was able to walk him.
Like all our dogs, I started with relationship and recall.
As you can see, he is enthusiastic about coming back even if he does rugby to tackle me sometimes.
Psychology is about the mindset of your dog while training. Better trained more freedoms he earns while on walks.
Luckily for me, only my phone ended up in the mud 😆😆

SUNDAY SESSIONS.
Working with each client is different everyone having different goal and also their limitations.
Shadow was working on refining his heel work and really nit picking their technique, commands and relationship before we test it with more than 1 dog. We also touched on long line work and freedom.
Teddy is having trouble with pulling so we went back to rebuild the psychology of heel. First is what does tension mean followed with small durations of heel to help build the association. We will also be supporting them with some social rehab.
But warm day and back home with my dogs now to update my notes and double check next week schedule.

FRIDAY PACK!!
Our first walk from the new location and, of course, there were some hiccups. I got the route mixed up, but luckily, I was able to get to the field on time.
While I am off, I'll be doing my pack walks ready to return, but ATM am enjoying bonding with the horses and teaching my dogs how to live with them.
But it was a beautiful day for the dogs after a few days of heavy rain.

THE TOOL DOESN'T FIX YOUR DOG!!
People are so concerned with what type of tool they put on their dog to fix behaviour rather than helping their dog understand what you want.
Tools are introduced to assist or elevate training depending on the owner and dogs relationship. From Harness to E-Collar.
This is just a walk we did as we have 2 weeks left in Bromborough before we move location.
If you're working with your dog, don't think there is some magical tool that will fix them. It takes consistency and hard work to achieve lifelong training.
This video was to show that once your dog understands heel, then you can use any tool to walk them 🙏🏾🙏🏾

R.I.P Penny.
I have not been socially active this week but on Sunday we lost Penny during a walk with her owners, she collided with another dog and hurt her spine.
Unfortunately she needed emergency surgery but due to complications we lost her. It is always devastating when we loose one of our client dogs especially one from my pack walks.
Her insurance only covered a fraction of the surgery cost & I’ll leave the gofundme link at the bottom, donate what you can to help.
She was the sweetest whippet ive ever met and the honour of working with, she has crossed that rainbow bridge which i just hope when my time is up there will be a BK9 dog section for me to see them all again. She takes a piece of my heart just like all the dogs do, and my Friday packs wont be the same without you.

Group Class
That’s 6 out of 6 guys!!
Our final group class was in Neston taking the guys on a beautiful but also the hardest walk.
Allowing them to use all the skill they have learnt over the 6 weeks and put them into a walk.
We passed off lead dogs, bikes, runners, families with no incidents from any of the dogs.
This group class what not about having the perfect trained dog. It was about creating better owners and handlers for their dogs.
Everyone came out better than when they started and that’s all that counts here. Am proud of everyone who stepped up to do this and also getting to see everyone’s dogs.
Me and the team are still brainstorming ideas for our next group class!

So our Sunday Group Class is now half way in.
We worked in Birkenhead this week to see how some of the dogs took to an environment they have worked in before. Introducing Mick to group class after assessing him around dogs and seeing if he was ready for the next step.
We pushed everyone a little more on this day, from head on head passing to roundabouts and circling. The idea to mimic as much as we can of the real world and helping owners and their dogs problem solve the issues.
Some of the dogs struggled and so did their owners but nobody quits because the group is full of support as we have all been in that position and its important to show people they are not alone in this.
Our next location will be sent out today so to all my group class clients keep your eye out for that, am excited to see how you handle our next location. As always I am proud of those who remain consistent and those who are stepping up to the next challenge.
