Wellcat Rescue

Wellcat Rescue Wellcat Rescue is a registered charity (518860). Wellcat is a small rescue and charity (518860) based in Frankley, Birmingham.

We take in unwanted or stray cats and kittens, ensure they receive necessary veterinary care and find them their purrfect forever homes. All of our cats are fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, snap tested for for FIV and FeLV, and up to date with flea and worming treatment. They also go to their new homes with a ‘Gotcha Day’ package to ensure as smooth transition to help them settle into the

ir new homes. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who work around the clock with the day to day care of the cats and kittens in our rescue and have amazing vet support from Oaks Veterinary Centre, Cotteridge. Wellcat relies solely on donations, fundraising, volunteers and a supportive community. It is only through their continued dedication that the charity can continue running and helping hundreds of cats and kittens each year. We now run our visiting times by appointment only, so please email us prior to visiting to book an appointment. [email protected]

Fireworks can be frightening for our feline friends. While the sky lights up during the new years celebrations, make sure your kitty feels cosy, calm and safe indoors. 🏠💛

When a feral decides not to feral anymore haha.

Frankie made a breakthrough 🥳

Frank and Nancy were both born outside and we bought into us as feral babies. Their mom Tara has been owned at some point, she was weary of us but definitely not feral. It didnt take long for Tara to realise we were here to help. . Over time we've been able to bring 3 of Tara's kittens around. Taylor, Washington and Arizona have really come into their own and are looking wonderful. Frank and Nancy have taken a wee bit longer, but we've not given up just yet and are hoping in time they will come around enough to eventually have a real home of their own.

Times are hard and unfortunately animals don't have a national health service. It's that simple. Our cats need private health care because there's no kitty NHS.

We've have people handing their cats over many, many times because they either a) can't afford the vet bill/no insurance or b) have attempted to treat their animals at home and have caused such damage that they then DEFINITELY can't afford the vet bill and have caused their pet pain and suffering. We see posts like this all the time on social media asking for advice and boy do people like to give advice. It's amazing how many wanna-be vets there are in this world when it comes to social media.

Veterinary medicine is not a suck it and see DIY and if you get it wrong you don't get a do over. So here at WellCat we are here to tell the world a secret 🤫 "It is illegal for non-veterinarians to treat animals. This includes diagnosing, advising, and prescribing medication." Except it's not a secret, its common knowledge, in fact its common sense. I mean, would you ask a gardener to cut your hair?!?!

Vets are vets because they genuinely care about the well being of animals. I've yet to meet a vet who doesn't love animals. Vets didnt go to medical school for all those years just to frustrate you and take your money. If the wanted to do that they would have gone into politics. Bottom line is that your vet DOES care but there is no NHS but that's why God invented insurance.

Please don't attempt to treat your pets at home. We would always advise people to take out pet insurance because you just never know........ All of our cats leave us with 5 weeks insurance with Agria insurance. If you want details of Agria just drop us a message and we can tell you exactly why we use them.

So, as we start a new year of 2026 make sure you're on top of your flea and worming treatments, vaccines ard up to date and insurance is in place. These aren't just pets, they are family 🐾

Please spare a thought for the cats still out there. 2025 saw rescues swamped and we can't see 2026 being any better unfortunately. We are calling on the public more and more to help us. Neuter! Neuter! Neuter! Thats the key. Adopt dont shop. Dont buy from unlicensed breeders and here's a controversial one; dont have more cats that you can afford. Pets are a privilege not a right. Do your homework, look at affordability. Cats can live for up to 20 years, it's a massive commitment.

The amount of strays on the streets in the summer of 2025 was the equivalent to the population of Southampton. Please help where you can, spare some food, put out a shelter (remember no blankets!!!! Straw is the way to go), support your local rescues and contact your local MP and make some noise. In a world where we can be anything, be kind.🙏
