We originally imported these along with the attoyac and montezuma swordtails a few years ago and we have had a local breeder continuing to produce them.

I managed to get some footage of one of the baby vampire crabs today.
Not very clear but they are growing. Seem to prefer being out of the water. Maybe they feel safer away from the parent crabs.

🚨 NEW SPECIES 2024 🚨

This we release our annual New Species report, detailing the incredible 260 species of freshwater fish identified in 2024.

Read the report here 👇
https://shoalconservation.org/new-species-2024/

The class of 2024 includes:

🐠 Adriana’s Pearlfish, a killifish discovered in a temporary pool just meters from a tourist path by Iguazú Falls in Argentina
🐠 The Berlin’s bloodworm eel, a bizarre worm-like fish that doesn't live in water...but MUD!
🐠 Lord Sauron Pacu, the piranha's vegetarian cousin with an uncanny resemblance to a character from Lord of the Rings

In the 4th year of New Species, there are more new species than ever before. It's a timely reminder that there's still plenty of biodiversity on our planet yet to be discovered!

📈 260 described in 2024
📈 243 described in 2023
📉 201 described in 2022
📈 212 Idescribed in 2021

A massive thank you to all researchers and taxonomists working hard to discover and describe new species.

🗣️ Give us a shout if you're working on any descriptions this year!

The campaigns to ban pet keeping continue. As a shop we have had to battle so many totally ridiculous regulations many of which are eventually dropped when it's proven how ridiculous they are.
The more restrictive things become the more underground the trade in pets becomes with a totally negative impact
We have all seen the growth in online sales of fish with people purchasing fish online whereby there is no conversation between buyer and seller regarding how and where these fish are kept.
Making things extremely difficult for specialist shops and aquatic clubs to survive through growing legislation and costs, whilst anyone can order a fish online despite having no guidance or backup as to the care required.
So many people come into shops wanting a memo fish with no understanding that they are a marine fish that can't just be kept in a fish bowl. I wonder how many of these and other fish get sold online and suffer an unfortunate fate.

This is a presentation by Eurogroup for Animals. Their campaign aims to ban the ownership of thousands of pet animals by imposing a European-wide positive li...
