My love for animal’s first started at the age of 12 when 5 tiny kittens were found on my school field. A notice was put in the school bulletin for anyone to give these babies a chance of life; I took 1 of these kittens home to give it a chance. Weeks hand rearing him and helping him with his toileting duties. I then got a Saturday job at a local rescue that took animals such as dogs, cat’s goats a
nd different types of ducks and geese. I loved my job and worked hard every weekend tending to and cleaning out the animals. After a couple of years Carol Hanes who owned the rescue decided to move to a different area which left me unable to do no more. I left school and went into retail, at 19 I left to have a baby and begin my life as a home keeper and mother. My son started school at 5 so I decided to go back to work again into retail. My love for animals never left me and I was always helping one animal or another. In 2002 when the sports shop I was working in for quite a few years closed I wanted to change my direction of work and work with animals. how where I didn’t know where to start so I ended up back in retail working for Next at touchwood shopping centre but something was always missing. I bumped into a friend who was going to Solihull College to attend an interview for an Animal Care course wow the door had opened, I contacted the college and was interviewed to which I gained a place on a level 2 course I then went on to a 2 year level 3 course and was the 1st student to get a first distinction criteria DDD. I became a tutor helper for the summer school Animal Care course for 7-12 year olds. One of the sessions wasn’t covered as a tutor had left I was asked to teach the children about animals instead of being a helper; this is when my new career started. Parents praised my work I had done with the students, and it wasn’t long before I got a phone call offering me a place at the college as a Subject Specific Support Tutor working in Animal Care I also taught level 1 and 2 students in Animal Care. 2 years ago a litter of kittens were found dumped on a building site not even an hour old a well known Animal industry service contacted me to hand rear these babies to which I did and when old enough they were adopted , but the babies keep coming sometimes with a mom but also for me to hand rear and the phone calls kept coming but sadly I couldn’t take them all as I only have a small house. Animal Samaritans contacted me this year with a mommy dog who had rejected her babies and was trying to kill them, both mom and babies came into my care, and after 24 hours I had successfully got mom to feed and nurse her babies to which she became a brilliant mother her name is Susie all her babies have been adopted but my heart melted with Susie and she’s still with me as a long term foster. Animal Samaritans has helped me so much with support and donations to help me get started. However it is an expensive process and we are not quite there yet, so if you would like to make a donation no matter how small it all helps, this can be done using friends and family on PayPal, to http://PayPal.me/DinkyPawsRescue or you can ring Vets4Pets Stechford directly on +44 121 789 5800 and tell them you want to donate to the Dinky Paws’ account Thanks for listening to my story .
