Sunday training and 2025 has begun in earnest with two full classes. The beginners group had some new faces starting their journey so we concentrated on obedience and some retieves including introducing some direction.
The novice class focused on split retrieves, retrieves thrown out of sight and blinds.

January continues how it began... busy. Monday, I was judging at the GLPA AA trail in Oxfordshire, an enjoyable day but sadly no awards, Tuesday was a shootover day and the rest of the week has been 1-2-1 lessons and this afternoon processing a deer gifted by a friend. I'm ready for a sit down and a glass of wine 🍷...cheers

Happy New Year!! Bit late....my apologies, but the year has had a busy start. So far in 2025 I have enjoyed 2 days picking up, 2 shootover days, shooting at 2 trails, running my own dog in a trail and a very enjoyable training and social last Sunday.....my feet have hardly touched the ground!
I am looking forward to helping many of you with your dogs this year, whether that be starting out with general obedience and building a partnership between dog and handler, to working on those foundations and progressing to competing with your dogs be that at working tests or field trails.
Wishing you all the very best for 2025 😊

It's been another busy week this week. Monday we had a shoot over, Tuesday I was pleased to be invited as a gun to shoot on a judges training day held by the HPRFTA https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14TnwPT2T9/ and again today we held another shootover. 3 very enjoyable days watching dogs work and spending time with like minded folk. Thank you to all who support these days and make them possible.

Sunday morning training.....storm Darragh was no match for these keen trainees.. πŸ˜„
Beginners group worked on obedience and starting to work up to blind retieves.
Novice group started with some simple retieves then we set up a square where handler stood in the centre and rotated with different retrieves in each corner such as seen, blind and memory and sending with different commands such as a direction or back. Thank you all for braving the elements

An enjoyable day on Mondays shootover at Kenilworth. Some good dog work and plenty of birds in the bag.

Just a few in the novice class this week, where we concentrated on split retieves, blinds into cover and straight lines over increasing distances.

Back to it this Sunday for the weekly training.
Just 2 pups in the first group, each at very different places in their education, so we tailored the exercises to suit and ensure both achieved.
Novice group focused on splits, direction and building confidence on blind retieves.

Monday we had a shootover, a lovely day with like minded folk working our dogs on some fantastic ground. What more could you ask 😊
Tuesday some 1-2-1 dog training lessons and a shooting lesson for me.
Wednesday morning was spent running a training session for the Korthals Griffon Club where we focused on basic whistle commands, recall and some simple seen retieves
Friday - a rough shooting day with a friend.
Saturday was spent picking up on a driven day where I was joined by a trainee who had never experienced a shoot before. An enjoyable and informative day.
Finally, today I took a trip to Wales for a session with the Hiraethog Hunt Point Retrieve Association (Proposed).
Now home and off to the RKC HPR Championships.....wish us luck πŸΆπŸ€πŸ€

A busy weekend.
Saturday picking up on a duck shoot ending with some duck flighting.
Then Sunday morning weekly training where we simulated some mock picking up and asking dogs to search an area. Useful skills for the shooting / competition field.

Fantastic few HPR shootover days kindly hosted by Nick Wade, who provides a wonderful venue to test our dogs, with plenty of birds and a variety of ground to work on.
Some dogs and handlers having their first experience of being shot over and coping well with what was aksed of them. Guns, dogs and handlers all enjoyed the days.
