Tips for how to keep your dog safe while walking in low light ๐Ÿ•๐ŸŒƒ

๐Ÿถ Keep your dog on a lead - Keeping your dog on a lead means you know where they are at all times and you will have more control if your dog becomes scared.
๐Ÿถ Reflective accessories - If your dog wears a coat these can be bought with reflective patches or if you prefer your could get them a reflective collar or harness to wear.
๐Ÿถ Light up collars of LED lights - Light up collars and/or clip on LED lights should be used in addition to your dogs usual collar or harness but are a great way to make your dog more easily seen in low light.

As an owner it's important to try to remember to take your mobile phone or carry a torch with you if walking your dog at night or in low light areas, Where possible we would also recommend walking with a family member or friend as the darker nights draw in.

๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿพ Hey everyone! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ†

Summer is almost over, and while we can still enjoy the sunny days, it's the perfect time to start preparing our furry friends for the upcoming fireworks season! ๐ŸŽ‰ Many dogs and animals find fireworks stressful, but with a little preparation, we can help them feel safe and calm. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’•

Here are some tips to get started:

1. Create a Safe Space: Set up a cosy, quiet area where your dog can retreat during fireworks. Fill it with their favourite toys, blankets, and maybe a piece of your clothing for comfort.
2. Gradual Exposure: Use recordings of fireworks sounds at a low volume and gradually increase it over time. Pair these sounds with positive experiences like treats and playtime.
3. Desensitization Training: Slowly expose your dog to the noise in controlled environments, rewarding calm behaviour. This helps them associate the sound with positive outcomes.
4. Positive Reinforcement: Always reward your dog for calm behaviour around fireworks sounds. Treats, praise, and petting go a long way in reinforcing a sense of security.
5. Calming Aids: Consider using calming aids like Thundershirts, pheromone diffusers, or natural supplements to help ease anxiety.
6. Exercise: Give your dog plenty of exercise during the day to help tire them out before the fireworks start. A tired dog is often a calmer dog.
7. Stay Calm: Your dog looks to you for cues. Stay calm and relaxed to help them feel more at ease.

Remember, patience and consistency are key. Every dog/animal is different, so find what works best for your furry friend. Letโ€™s make this fireworks season a stress-free celebration for our beloved pets! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ•โค๏ธ
