❗️ DID YOU KNOW ❗️

Legally, all dogs must wear a collar and ID tag when out in public, which must detail their owner's name and address.

They must also be microchipped. Microchips sometimes, however, move - making them hard to find. And sometimes details are not updated, so a back identification tag helps our neighbourhood wardens reunite dogs with their owners, also keeping communities free of stray dogs.

Neighbourhood wardens have the power to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) (fine) of £100 for failing to meet any area of the PSPO.

It is an offence in County Durham if you:

🐾 Allow a dog to foul without picking it up
🐾Allow a dog to stray (ie allow a dog to wander or roam loose/exercise without a responsible owner)
🐾Fail to put a dog on a lead when asked to do so by an authorised person (council staff such as neighbourhood wardens or Durham Constabulary police officer)
🐾Walk more than six dogs together at any one time
🐾Allow dogs into a designated fenced off play area (play sites affected will display a sign), or a designated tennis court, multi-use games area or sport pitch
🐾Fail to put your dog on a lead in designated cemeteries and graveyards

Neighbourhood Wardens have collected this dog that was found straying on Benthouse Lane, Durham and was taken to Gilmore Vets by a member of the public.

The dog was microchipped but unfortunately the details were not correct so he has been transported to Stray Aid

*BEDDING APPEAL*
We are appealing for bedding for our dogs and cats.
We are extremely grateful for all donations of:
*Blankets
*Large Towels
*Duvet Covers
*Sheets

These can be dropped off at our kennels in Coxhoe everyday between 10am-4pm.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept duvets, pillows, filled beds, hand towels or pillowcases.

If you're wondering what to get for your pet this Christmas, please consider an identity tag. Apart from being a legal requirement these days, for both dogs and cats, it also makes sense. If a member of public finds your pet, they would far rather bring it home to you than have to call the dog warden or take it to the vet for scanning. The vast majority of dogs being brought to the pound are wearing collars, but frustratingly no discs, or carrying discs with phone numbers that are out of date. So please, be smart like Santa and get your pet an identity disc. Stray Aid has a range of identity discs from £5 that we can engrave while you wait, or you can get them from some pet shops and shoe repair shops, or online from Amazon or eBay🦌🐕🐈
