A Hugh Thank You to everyone who kindly donated in store for the Pets at Home Easter Appeal"

Over £1,100 has been raised by this store for the Pets at Home Foundation and ARC (we get 50% of the money raised). This will be a great help with all the hungry mouths to feed.

The Campaign would not have been as successful without the wonderful help from the staff here and our lovely Volunteers: Carol, Julie, Ian and Corina who all did a great job!😄

The Pets Foundation Easter appeal is now in full swing. Help raise funds for The Animal Rescue Charity by donating in Bishop's Stortford Pets at Home before Easter Monday.

All of your donations go towards helping us out especially during another busy kitten season where we will be running up vet bills and burning through kitten food to make sure all the kittens we rescue are given the best possible chance.

Our amazing Deputy and Supervisor, found a very small bat in need of some assistance at ARC. She contacted The Herts and Middlesex Bat group and they took the bat to a rehabilitation centre. Once she has put on a few grams she will be released again at The ARC to where she was found, so we will keep an eye out. Well done to everyone involved in helping this little Natterer' bat!!!

Over the last week we had a cat handed in believed to be stray. Once scanned, it turned out to belong to someone, and was in fact a diabetic cat in need of medicine. Luckily, he was OK, but some animals that are on medication it can be fatal if they don't receive their medication regularly.

Please remember to make sure the proper steps are followed before handing a cat to a rescue including attaching a paper collar, asking in local groups and neighbours if they know who the cat belongs to, getting someone to scan the cat, ideally in the location they are found in, if possible, rather than picking them up and taking them somewhere out of the area.

On the other side of things, please make sure to keep your animals microchip up to date, so you can be contacted in the event they go missing/are found.

Some examples of this over the last few years:
A Dog was with us for 7 months before the owners found that he was with us, if the microchip details were up to date, then he would have gone home 7 months sooner.

A cat was handed in after their owner passed away, the cat turned out to have been missing for 7 years from the original owner but for those 7 years had been taken in as a stray and kept.

A cat was picked up from the street despite us recommending that they don't and brought in to us. It was unchipped, but the owner rang up and had evidence to prove that he was there cat and they were reunited.

It's fantastic that these people were reunited with their much loved pets but it could have happened sooner.

It is a legal requirement that all cats and dogs are microchipped and the details are up to date. So if yours aren't then please get this done at your vets or give us a call and we can arrange for you to bring your cat or dog to us and a member of our staff can chip them for you. All we ask is that you pay a minimum donation of £10 per animal to cover the cost of the chip and admin fees, keep the details up to date, and check before you keep a "stray" or relinquish them to a homing centre.

We have created a new Amazon wishlist to give some hints as to items we are in need of. All the items on there currently are ones that we will use all year round. Currently we are quite short on just regular adult wet food for dogs for example and with 21 dogs we are getting through quite a lot.
Many thanks in advance for your support. We couldn't keep rescuing animals without the help of the community.

Kitten season is here

The warm weather opens the beautiful spring buds, birds sing joyfully and the familiar sound of lawn mowers and sweet smell of cut grass encompasses our senses. At this magical time of year also comes new life and unfortunately unwanted, abandoned, orphaned and feral kittens. Many of these kittens are unwell and needing urgent verterinary care for cat flu, conjunctivitis, worm infestation, fleas and ticks.

Please support us with our veterinary fees and support our early neutering programme for young cats and kittens.

Please click here to donate via our secure donations page www.animalrescue.org.uk/donations

Thank you so much, we are so lucky to have such kind supporters.
