Dogs need a healthy balance of physical and mental stimulation.
Physical stimulation includes regular exercise, such as walking, playing, agility, etc which helps keep their bodies fit and healthy.
Mental stimulation involved activities that challenge their minds, such as puzzle toys, training exercises, or interactive games, which help prevent boredom and help maintain cognitive function
Balancing both types of stimulation is crucial for a dog’s overall well-being and happiness.
BUT… when it’s too hot 🥵 to exercise, finding something fun for your dog to do will help alleviate boredom and also help to tire your dog out.
We haven’t played this target game in ages. You can actually see Jesse figuring out and trying to remember what to do to get the treat. 😍
The photo in the comments was 10 minutes after a few games of this and ‘find the toy’ and ‘fetch’ (bring the toy to me) this is a really helpful activity as Jesse still like to take things 😬. But he will consistently bring them to me when I ask in exchange for a reward.
Clever boy 😀
SOUND ON! 🔊
Sniff sniff sniffy sniff.
Dogs love it!
We are keeping cool in the shade today and the dogs are using their noses to sniff out treats in the grass.
These pups are brothers, they live together and have no issues being around food together. 🥰
Give your dogs something else to do today instead of a walk. Leave the walks to cooler times of the day (early mornings or late in the evening)
If you need any help with ideas, just give me a shout.
When only one of the group is whistle trained but they’ve all learnt to associate the whistle with a treat 😋
Enjoying the enrichment.
Enrichment enable dogs to explore and use their natural instincts.
This can have a positive impact on a dogs mental wellbeing. It can prevent boredom (on a rainy day!) build confidence, and teach a variety of skills such as problem solving.
Licking, chewing, sniffing, and foraging are healthy, natural behaviours for dogs and studies have shown such activities release endorphins, thereby calming and comforting the dog.
(Dogs should be supervised when engaging in enrichment activities)
On rainy days we learn new tricks lol 😂
The grass has been cut and there are some new additions to the agility!
