Hello, lovely clients.
I just wanted to pop on and give everyone a heads up going into the summer months about walking.
As the temperatures are rising and we are all enjoying it, we need to take into consideration that there comes a point where it’s not safe for Dogs to walk outside.
I would like to advise all that I check the temperature outside before going to any walk. I constantly check the temperature of the ground with my hands…
(Little tip if you can’t hold your hand on the ground for 10 seconds without it burning you shouldn’t have a dog on it.)
I start carrying water for the dogs.
With that being said…. I have NO issue refusing to walk your dog if I think it’s not safe!
I am happy to work with everyone and get the dogs needs met. Whether that be a play on the grass in garden instead of an hour trek or where possible picking the dog up and carrying them to a shaded safe area, or cutting the walk shorter etc
I am happy to do what needs done but as you all know this isn’t just my job! I care about the dogs. The dogs health & safety are my priority.
Obviously everything depends on where you live, is there grass they can safely walk on close by, is there any area that’s shaded etc
With this breeze in Scotland we don’t need to start thinking about it too much at the early 20’s, we may have to modify the walks slightly.
Late 20’s are a different story.
9am walk for an hour ok.
1pm hour walk in 28° absolutely not.
We have to think about heatstroke and we have to think about paws being burned.
So this is my heads up that I will always put the dog first. You have been warned, LOL.
No Dog ever died from missing a walk. However, plenty have from heat stroke.
