Caught in the act! Hagen’s had breakfast and wants out- now!! Apparently we’re not quick enough to turn him out this morning 😂
It just shows, at 33 year old they can still get up to as much mischief as a young horse 🙈 he might look skinnier than the rest of the horses but they’re all breeds of ‘heavy horse’ whereas Hagen’s a thoroughbred cross, and boy he’s got the attitude of one! You’ll see him taking himself to the field and in for his dinner each day, please don’t panic when there’s no human attached- it’s just he knows exactly where he’s going and who are we to argue with the old boy. Many have tried, many have failed, he’s definitely got his own mind!
You might worry when you see him in the field- he has no muscle left on his back or bum, because he’s been retired for over 10 years. He has a heart murmur and mild arthritis so the decision was made many years ago to let him enjoy his golden years without having to work! Don’t let him fool you, he can go for a gallop with the rest when he chooses, although his favourite pass time is eating… grass, carrots, turnips or whatever he manages to steal when we’re not looking! After 20 years of showjumping, cross country and working in a riding school he’s definitely earned his rest and will continue to enjoy it for as long as he’s happy. Even when this means he finds the muckiest patches to roll in the day after a groom 🙈😂 he’s a happy, healthy and often mischievous old man and we’re happy to see this wicked streak still shine through! He’s on specialised mash feeds (like many old people lol!) and watch if you’re passing his stable while he’s eating, he likes to wipe his face down your clothes when you’re not looking.
If anyone has any concerns please feel free to ask questions, I’ve had Hagen since he was 20 and I think I’ve seen it all with him. We’re always happy when anyone takes an interest in our animals, and will always answer any questions t
A wee throwback to spring last year- can’t wait for some of that sunny weather again!
For those that haven’t had a chance to meet our animals yet 😊
Well where to begin, what a whirlwind this year has been. We have overcome a fair few things this year but after being vandalised just before Xmas we were wondering if Erskine had simply out grown the farm. We were very worried about having to close our doors. But wow were we wrong, as always the Erskine community and beyond had other ideas and rallied around us. You all have raised an utterly astounding amount to help save the farm. What a phenomenal start to 2024 we are going to have and it is all down to the love and support shown to us 💕 thank you to those who shared, donated, commented or sent a message of support to put it simply you all saved Lamont Farm. We do not have the words to express our gratitude to each and everyone of you but please know we are so very grateful 🥹 we are looking forward to a much brighter 2024
Whatever your doing tonight stay safe stay warm and have fun 🤩 when the clock strikes midnight may you be surrounded by love and laughter
