Culturapedia

Culturapedia Culturapedia works creatively with the people of Lancashire to give ideas legs. We are based in Blackburn, but open to working with all like minds, everywhere.

We work to support communities to select and host live arts events on their doorstep. We are passionate about enabling people to feel that the arts are for them, on their own terms. We produce our own projects, but very happy to talk through ideas and collaborate.

What can a bird teach us about hope? Celebrated author, Rosie Garland, explores hope and freedom inspired by the Taxidermy collection at Lancashire’s The Whitaker - Rossendale Museum and Art Gallery

Part of a brand new season of Spot On Shorts on the theme of Finding Hope. Inspired by the taxidermy collection at The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery in Rawtenstall, Rosie tells the tale of a young princess so protected by her parents that she is forbidden to venture into the outside world - until, in a previously unvisited room, she meets Madam Whitaker’s Blue-Winged Macaw.

We're delighted to be planning a celebration for the completion of one of our latest commissions for Lancashire - artwork hand painted onto the walls of the waiting room at Lostock Hall Medical Centre by Cath Ford. The work was inspired by the history of the building, the patients and the staff.
The event will be held on Thursday 20th July from 6pm until 7.30pm within the main waiting room of the Medical Centre.

Cath will be speaking about her process and we can share a chat about all things art and health. Everyone attending will receive a postcard print of the artwork signed by the artist.

We'd love it if you joined us in our celebration of this project. Please RSVP [email protected] to confirm your attendance.

Please join Culturapedia and Analogue Farm for the launch of Bacup's Purple Plaques on Thursday, 18 May, at 7 pm - 8:30 pm.

Bacup, Lancashire, has many rich layers of human activity and experience, and it's one of the best-preserved mill towns in Lancashire. Through periods of growth and development, many stories have been paved over (sometimes quite literally) and almost entirely lost as generations shift and scatter
these stories can quickly fade away.

Culturapedia commissioned the Purple Plaques to immortalise five forgotten folkloric heritage stories through five permanent purple plaques. These stories have been directly sourced through the artist David Chatton Barker's engagement with the town's people, young and old alike, collecting oral history, bridging gaps and joining the dots on the map of our shared cultural heritage. These beautifully cast metal plaques give Bacup an extra dimension of identity and create talking points and new routes to experience a unique and historic northern town.

The launch will be an immersive tour visiting five historic buildings in the town centre, each with its unique story. Purple plaques will be unveiled, along with associated storytelling by the poet Emily Oldfield and music and street theatre by artists Sam McLoughlin and David Chatton Barker. Each plaque site performance installation will last approximately 15mins, with the whole event lasting approx. one hour and a half. The meeting point is 1832 Barista  - 7 James St, OL13 9NJ, opposite the

Our fantastic friends at Stute Theatre are looking for a Children's Theatre Director for their latest tour. Could you be just the person they're looking for? Take a look!

Alert! We are recruiting a Director for our next show for children and young people. Come & collaborate with our fantastic team!

Full details at www.stutetheatre.co.uk/recruitment

As part of an upcoming community touring production for young people, Stute Theatre CIC is seeking a Director for our 2023 pilot tour of ‘Cardboard Cosmos’.

Please note: due to the locations of this role and the expense contributions available, we are ideally seeking an individual with a base in or near Greater Manchester.

Cardboard Cosmos is a brand new live show, written by theatre maker Sophia Hatfield, which will combine live performance and participatory creative workshop content. The show explores community and asks what really makes a great place to live. Every performance will be directly influenced by what the audience think and care about in their local area.

Children and families can enjoy a wonderful live show, get crafty and creative and get involved!

We are seeking a Theatre Director to lead the production through rehearsals, support our casting process, collaborate with the lead artist, cast and designer and get us ready to head out on the road this Spring.

This is a paid role. See the full job description on our website for fees, dates and details.

In the run-up to Burnley Words Festival 2023, we will have a number of commissions, call outs, and opportunities for local writers to share, and exhibit their work in a variety of ways.

These ‘showings’ may be in print or in person, and will be under the banner of ‘Now Listen ‘Ere.’

Our first commission is for a new (or existing) poem that celebrates our local high street and town centres and all they have to offer. The poem will be printed and displayed prominently on the outside of a building in Burnley town centre.
