Glen aka Hollywood, is now nearly 18 months old. He is the brother to Esk aka Piggy. They both learn in the same way but Esk, being a girl, learns quicker. Glen is now growing in confidence and picking game with more conviction. Brains and thought teach both Glen & Esk. It sometimes means trying several different methods but once they know why and are happy …. They fly ❤️

When you allocate a morning to go check some stuff before the Ts are crossed and the i s dotted and you can see ……. Nothing ! So after a couple of hours we went for a cup of 🫖

When we lived in Scotland “living the dream “ 😃 we expanded our kennel to fit the land and the work we did . We had pointers for walked up grouse, we had spaniels for Heathers love of beating and the labs to pick up with .
We had to decide when we moved back to stay big and get staff or go small and be hands on ourselves . We chose smaller so we could give the dogs our time. We are happy with our decision and know from the feedback that our residential clients appreciate our attention to detail . Quality not quantity. www.oakshot.com

I drove 'the patient' to the Yorkshire Dales yesterday as he's still not allowed to drive and is going a little stir crazy!
Just what the doctor ordered.
2 weeks post op.
walking well and happily planning

We are often asked to put on group training but with individual places.
So…..
Venue - Royal Kennel Club ground at Emblehope & Burncastle estate nr. Hexham NE48
Date - 27th & 28th March 2025 - book 1 or both days
Cost - £100 if 6 handlers £80 if we have 8 handlers per day
Cost includes ground rent which includes access to the lodge.
The days are aimed at handlers that are considering entering the 2025 novice or open working tests. We will use automatic launchers, shot and have a helper.

I had to share these more unusual pictures of our Yatts taken during the second day of the inter club competition at Chatsworth country fair.
He was sent for a blind retrieve over the river and to the right of where we were standing . After picking he entered the water where he had picked from, which meant he reached this bank the other side of spectators .
He's never been in an environment quite like this. He coped brilliantly.
A lovely memento of a great weekend .

Chatsworth 2024 - many thanks Sarah Middleton for the fantastic photos of the team competition . I will be getting in touch to buy some.
Here are a couple of Yatts at Foxholes of Oakshot - a member of the winning N&D team.
He’s turned into a bit of a machine 😊. Fed on Kronch agility and our own mix of raw, sweet potatoes & spinach .

What starts as a random idea - usually not involving me - would not be possible to ever come to fruition without the organisational prowess of Liz Robinson - on behalf of The Three Ridings Labrador club. The clubs commitment to providing its members with education, training and competition for its members needs our appreciation.
I just turn up & provide my bit.
Without the likes of Liz , helpers like Rob & Steve our sport would decline.
There is no i in team, but Liz & the likes of Liz need a round of applause 👏 ⭐️
I hope the 12 handlers enjoyed their day, we covered a lot of points and there were some brilliant questions .
Hopefully we can do another next year.

Grouse & rabbits at Arkengarthdale with the YRFTS 14 dog Novice. Marhystin Elijah of Oakshot achieved second place & guns choice 😊 Having been cooped up at Chatsworth whilst I competed with Yatts, just going for a romp around enjoying himself in our free time, I’m delighted he held it together for the day. As anyone who knows our Moss well knows, he’s not the most chilled dog.
Congratulations to David & Peter on your awards and many thanks to the Duke of Norfolk and keeper, judges and all who were there from the YRFTS committee.
The boxes to these trophies are presented to the club by Mrs C Finlan and are made from wood that she collected at ‘Kwazulu private game reserve.’ As a cabinet maker in my previous life I really appreciate the craftsmanship it took to make these boxes. 😊 🥈

Chatsworth 2024 - Thank you to all involved in the game fair organisation. Helpers, staff & volunteers warm & welcoming. Bin and rubbish collectors endless work. Cleanest event I’ve been to ever. Gundog event organisation by Steve Burns &fabulous team dealing with “I’ve lost my pass” I’ve lost my armband” “where do I go “ & “where’s the loo” for 3 days 😆
Heather took more pictures of balloons than dogs but she didn’t want me asking her all the above questions so went to watch the carriage driving & Ukrainian Cossacks and farrier competition!
Here’s a montage of her photos and last but not least thank you team …. We did alright 🥇🍾

As a professional trainer I set up retrieves for others. When training on my own I set up for myself, so it’s good to have a few days away at Westmacott Gundogs and not know where anything is! Moss hasn’t naturally been a straight line dog. We’ve worked on it. Happy with Moss holding his line and Steve’s description of where the retrieve was was spot on too 😊

Yesterday afternoon we trained youngsters. We are 3 days with Steve at Westmacott Gundogs. When handlers take videos of each other you find a gem that makes you smile 😊😁 we love Jimmy - This is Esk.

Yatts of Foxholes of Oakshot training at Lockerbie. Couldn’t really have expected him to stop at that distance when he’d winded it!
