A handler can’t make it so last minute place available - to make up to 6 handlers

More panel judges are incorporating a little bit of walked up in clubs safari tests, the reason ?
More handlers are winging it.
Heel training is boring
It’s not fun or sexy.
Heel training is a grind
Heel training is necessary .
No excuse training 😁

Congratulations to Cameron Brown on your multiple awards😊good day. I love this type of ground to compete on. The type of ground that we hope to continue trialling on. First beet training day of the season today. Clouds kept a lid on the heat. Thanks to the handlers today . Good marking. Consistent handling and concentration despite the sweat 😰

The Three Ridings Labrador Club consistently put on events to involve, encourage & educate their members. Last week they held a field trial regs discussion day with a B panel judge . We are backing that up with a practical / what to expect on the day, whilst feeling the strange extra stress that happens when you put an armband on !

Dates for walked up beet training nr. Thirsk North Yorkshire for A/V retrievers.
Wednesday 31st July . Tuesday August 13 th & Thursday August 15 th . As we have booked groups already these dates are for individuals.
We will be using thrown retrieves , blinds and automatic launchers. Novice & open standard dogs welcome. £70 including ground rent . 6/8 handlers 😊

As a professional trainer I set up retrieves for others. When training on my own I set up for myself, so it’s good to have a few days away at Westmacott Gundogs and not know where anything is! Moss hasn’t naturally been a straight line dog. We’ve worked on it. Happy with Moss holding his line and Steve’s description of where the retrieve was was spot on too 😊

Preset blinds, automatic launchers, shot and thrown retrieves.
8 places max £70 including ground rent .

Good days with Steve at Westmacott Gundogs . A couple of friends in our group probably ought to be on stage . I got sung to for my birthday and one handler (who looks like butter wouldn’t melt. See pic)!! regularly turned the air blue, with language that made our sides hurt with laughter. Endless patience shown by Steve with this challenging & lovely bunch of handlers . Enjoyed every minute. 😊

Yesterday afternoon we trained youngsters. We are 3 days with Steve at Westmacott Gundogs. When handlers take videos of each other you find a gem that makes you smile 😊😁 we love Jimmy - This is Esk.

Yatts of Foxholes of Oakshot training at Lockerbie. Couldn’t really have expected him to stop at that distance when he’d winded it! He did what I asked of him to get there and I can’t fault him for winding a little pink tennis ball from that distance 💨

Very big shout out to our work experience granddaughter this week.
She’s brushed, swept, walked, helped set up and loved the dogs who equally loved her.
She done eye drops & cleaned ears. Shes found some dogs easy to handle and some (picture below) more difficult . A residential who doesn’t do touching his ears 😊
Bonus is she was paid in pasta meals and ice cream . Saturday will be quiet.

Cancelled all 1-1 training today except first thing this morn.
Not fair to run dogs in this sticky sweaty no shade near here heat!
Turned into a wash and brush up day!
All done 👍 they look like different dogs now 🫣

Esks age still classes her as a puppy and she’s just had her first trip away with me to Lockerbie. I have had a fabulous and very funny ( in a good way) group and I wanted to train Esk in the evenings .
She’s been a little diamond. She’s quiet, good marker, nice delivery, fast, loves cover, swims like an otter, we might have to have a word about the stop? Rome wasn’t built in a day 😆 ✅🌟

We’ve got our 15 year old granddaughter coming to do work experience with us in a couple of weeks. She’s excited to come and learn more about training & management of the dogs and we are excited about spending quality time with her and getting her to teach us instagram, TikTok, Snapchat (mmm perhaps not) but definitely how to update our website blog from our phone ! 😆www.oakshot.com

What a wealth of experience I had with me this last 4 days. Training in the borders of Scotland, on an estate that has endless possibilities for testing our retrievers abilities ( and handlers).

Hollywood loved bog snorkelling when he was little, running up streams with his head under water, but faced with a bigger expanse …. not so sure.
It took a few days of encouragement but once he learns anything then we’re off .
Now we’ve just got to curb his enthusiasm 😁
