I love the history behind this childrens story book. To date, I havent had the chance to have a look at the book, however I am happy to say I know the dogs personally.
Baxter was one of my pupils many years ago and what a fantastic dog he turned out to be. As a lot of dog owners do, Steven and Elizabeth, who are Baxters owners, wanted a second dog and bought Bella.
Bella was one of my pups from my working Springer Spaniel, Charlie's litter. Therefore the litter sister to my now, semi retired house dog, Purdy.
I know my grand children will love getting a copy!

Must be really bad if the dogs cant hear the vehicle.

Today my husband and I with our two guide dogs had another near miss with an electric car. We were crossing a side road and it came in off the main road and passed very close in front of us. If it’d been a petrol or diesel engine, or if it’d had a sound emitter fitted, we’d have heard it, but, apart from the sound of the tyres on the road, it was virtually silent.

I am a confident guide dog handler but I can honestly say that silent electric vehicles scare me. I fear that it will take serious injury to a blind person, or even worse, death, before any meaningful legislation is put into place. If it happens to me or someone that I care about, I’ll be in court and I won’t rest until we have justice.

So please, if you drive an electric vehicle, switch on your sound emitter. After all, you wouldn’t drive at night without your lights on, it’s the same thing.

Many people will like this post but please don’t. I ask anyone who would have hit the like button to please hit the share button instead and pass this far and wide. I fear for our lives and those of these two amazing dogs.

Just a normal run for the dogs in a wood where they can enjoy themselves. No sniffle boxes here. No collars....just under control allowing the dogs to do what they want..which is to hunt....and that is what other "trainers" try to stop them doing using food..they are trying to distract the dog from the hunt. No chance. Positive reinforcement is not about food treats. Dont be fooled !

I have just about caught up with most of the dog owners who had booked for the dog behaviour/ training sessions earlier on in the year. I have also been out and about locally to find out what dog friendly accommodation is available to ensure I can carry on with the very popular owner with dog residential training sessions for people who cannot come to the local sessions.
Please have a look at https://www.pondfauldholidays.com/ which is ideal and just up the road from our property. A few of my clients have already used this place as their base and all reports have been excellent.
As always I cannot emphasise this enough: I do not hard train dogs or promote intensive training. I train the dog and the owner using a time proven system which should be fun for the dog. I also want you, the dog owner to make the week a holiday break where you learn how to train your dog and practice what I have taught you.
Have a look and if this is the type of training you would like please get in touch

I have just finished training two Border Collies for a family. These collies have been at another trainer who I would love to have a debate with. How can you stop a car chaser with treats? How do you then stop that car chaser becoming a human biter using the same treats? Show me!
This family travelled from Exeter in Devon to have their problem sorted. A round trip of over 1000 miles. They are returning home knowing they will be charged by the Police. The postman who was bitten quite rightly reported it.
Hopefully having done a full report and having rectified the problems I am hoping the dog will not be destroyed.
Its not the dogs fault. Its not the owners fault. The owners looked for help and were wrongly advised.
There is no such thing as positive only force free training to fix these problems. Taking control is what works! Convince me otherwise!

Training starts again this week. I only call it training because it is the human I am training, the dog reacts to the system. A well proven system which when followed without "cherry picking" will give you the results you require. This is Purdy. Please note that there is no lead, no collar and no gimmicks. No treats either. Positive reinforcement is not all about giving the dog food! Purdy is a working pet, one of my springers which are used at pheasant shoots. Proof that a dogs prey drive can be controlled. Dont be conned in to believing you can control a dogs prey drive using treats as a bribe to stop the dog from doing what it is bred for!

Good news at last. It has been a very strange and difficult journey however we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel for our move. I will be taking bookings to restart training on Wednesday 18th May 2022. These sessions, as previously mentioned are for local one to one sessions with two people and for dog and owner residential also for two people. There will be a 10% discount for two dogs if both are owned by the same person. I know a lot of you have been waiting to book these sessions. I apologise for the amount of wasted time due to others involved stalling to complete the transaction however, please get in touch by phone to secure your place. First come first served 07764763907. Thanks.

We are on the move.
The downsizing of the business will mean that we will no longer be able accomodate residential dog only training
We will however continue owner and dog training. We will be organising accommodation near the new property with local providers that are dog friendly. We will be looking for providers that will take a maximum of two dogs. This will enable us to continue training the dog owner with their dog. This form of training is by far the more succesful approach and I encourage owners to look at the week that is booked as a holiday where they fit in dog training. We do not hard train and we do not encourage intensive training.
Dog owners willing to travel will continue to benefit from the local one to one sessions which will remain two sessions with a two week break in between sessions. You will be given homework to practice what you will learn in the first session. This is obviously the most cost effective way to have your dog problems addressed.
I have experienced recently that a lot of potential customers are asking for prices from various dog trainers. I totally understand that it is an expensive outlay and that some dog owners will be watching the purse strings and shopping about. The best advice I can give you if you find yourself in this situation is to arrange to see the trainers dogs in an outside environment before you sign up. Training in a hall with high value food treats seldom suits a highly active dog.
Buy cheap buy twice!
I am more than happy, by arrangement, to have prospective clients join me for a walk with my springer spaniels. This will give you an example of what the end product will be.
The picture below is Blue, a beautiful Weinmaraner I took in for rehoming and training. I was able to have her rehomed a few years ago with a great family that enjoy fell walking in the Lake District. There is a testimonial here from her new master Mr French in Cumbria

Positive only force free training will NOT stop your dog attacking livestock. Please seek the correct advice.

Positive only force free training will NOT stop your dog attacking livestock. Please seek the correct advice.

No dog can be trusted around livestock. Your dog can harm or even kill farm animals and may be put down if out of control on farmland. The owner may also be charged with a criminal offence resulting in a substantial fine.

The stress of being chased is enough to cause animals to die or for pregnant animals to miscarry. Incidents also have a significant emotional and financial impact on farmers.

As we come into the lambing season, we are working with NFU Scotland to remind dog owners to act responsibly when walking on, or near, farmland.

Our Story

We are based at our four star B&B property known as Airds Farm B&B. We have approximately 14 acres of woodland and grassland which has become a first class, established dog training area. The training is available on both a national & local scale. Various residential options, including our on site self catering cottage are available. The popular local one to one courses are available by appointment.

Our training area is home to rabbit, game birds and the occasional deer however, we also have domesticated ducks, hens and five male sheep. The rams are there to help stock train the dogs. Your dog will be introduced to the livestock under control once your dog has been trained to have good recall and is stock steadied in the poultry area.
