Living as One – A Reflection from Australia Zoo
Today, I found myself standing outside the legacy of Steve Irwin—a man whose passion for wildlife sparked conversations that continue to echo across the world. While I’m not a fan of zoos in general, stepping into this space wasn’t about entertainment or selfies with animals. It was about honouring a vision, a mission, and a reminder of something far greater than ourselves—our connection to the earth and all its creatures.
Steve Irwin lived and breathed for wildlife. He didn’t just speak about protecting animals—he embodied the belief that we can live as one. He reminded us that animals aren’t here for us; they are here with us. They have just as much right—if not more—to this earth, the seas, and the skies.
Take the crocodile, for example—an ancient being that has survived mass extinctions and outlived the Ice Age. Creatures like these aren’t just part of nature’s story—they are nature’s story. And yet, how often do we stop to truly listen to them?
As an animal communicator and healer, I believe animals speak to us all the time—not in words, but in energy, in movement, in presence. They remind us to slow down, to respect, and to coexist. But it’s up to us to hear them.
Standing there today, looking at the legacy Steve built, I was reminded of the work still to be done. Protecting wildlife isn’t just about conservation efforts—it’s about shifting how we see and honour every life we share this planet with. It’s about understanding that our role isn’t dominance; it’s balance.
So, no, I didn’t pet the animals. I didn’t need to. Instead, I stood in quiet reflection—acknowledging their presence, their purpose, and their right to simply be.
And as I left, I carried with me the words that Steve so often shared:
“We don’t own the planet Earth. We belong to it. And we must share it with our wildlife.”
May we keep sharing. May we keep listening. May we keep protecting.
