Regular check-ups are key to preventing and managing pain in pets.

Our NDSR Pain Management Clinic is here to support your pet’s health every step of the way.

Check-ups are scheduled to assess the effectiveness of a medication or after interventions to ensure we see an improvement. If we don't see any improvement, it means we can take other actions to ensure pets can still do things such as tackle stairs pain-free and live an active and healthy a life as possible. ❤️

To support veterinary professionals, Francesca Tee from our Ophthalmology team has published an in-depth article looking at Feline Eosinophilic Keratoconjunctivitis (FEK). 👁️

FEK is a chronic and progressive infiltrative disease of the cornea and conjunctiva in cats. It's sadly described as a disease that cannot be cured, only controlled.

In part one of this series, Francesca gives an overview of this condition, reviews the symptoms to look out for and looks at how to recognise possible cases >> https://bit.ly/3XNaR4J

Pain awareness and pain scales. 📈

Here at NDSR, to help manage chronic long-term pain in patients, we use pain questionnaires to assess your pet’s level of pain.

Even though our animals can't tell us directly where or how much it hurts, by assessing changes in behaviours, willingness to exercise and how much the pain is interfering with their day-to-day life, we can gain information on the effectiveness of a treatment or interventional management, such as injecting pain killers closer to where it hurts.

We are deeply moved by the heartfelt feedback we received from Stacey at Perry Referrals about her beloved cat, Bambi. 🐾❤️

After Bambi was referred to us for severe sickness and vomiting, Stacey shared:

"I cannot thank my incredible colleagues at North Downs Specialist Referrals enough. Even though I work with them daily, they exceeded all expectations with their care, expertise, and compassion. From the Medicine, Anaesthesia, Diagnostics, Surgery, and Oncology teams, to those in the Cat Ward and High Dependency Unit—each of you has been truly amazing. 💕

“We are now home with a feeding tube, which will be removed soon as Bambi is eating on her own. She’s already returning to her sassy, regal self, with her feline friends watching over her. 😻👑”

Though the histology results showed adenocarcinoma, which is unfortunately untreatable, Stacey’s message was full of warmth and hope:

"Owning pets is incredibly challenging, especially when they're unwell, but the love and joy they bring us make it all worthwhile. 💕"

We stand by Stacey and Bambi, ready to support them in any way we can.

We love celebrating our patients' success stories! ❤️

Sherman’s owner shared a heartwarming update, highlighting the fantastic results of his treatment.

“Thank you, Vim, for saving Sherman’s eye when it was on the brink of rupture. 1.5 years later, and he’s thriving! You’d never know he almost lost his eye—only a tiny white mark from his graft remains. You’ve done a wonderful job!”

We’re thrilled to share Teebo’s incredible transformation after groundbreaking spinal surgery! 🐶

Teebo came to us with severe spinal conditions, but thanks to our advanced treatment, he’s now on the road to a full recovery.

Dr. Leblond led a complex surgery, using pedicle screws and rods to stabilise Teebo’s lumbosacral spine, and antibiotic sponges to combat infection.

Dr. Leblond explained, “In the most challenging spinal infections, our new system shines. This method of spinal stabilisation not only alleviates extreme pain but also prevents bacteria from hiding, unlike traditional techniques using bone cement.

“The difference in comfort is remarkable compared to their initial pain. We can even monitor implant viability with CT scans, showing significant healing in the previously infected areas.”

Teebo’s owner, Julie, is overjoyed with the remarkable change in her beloved pet. ❤️
