As March draws to a close, we are delighted to introduce our Neurology team member, Natalie West.

Natalie graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2017 and began working at a small animal general practice in Cheshire. Following this, she worked in Emergency and Critical Care in a busy Liverpudlian out-of-hours hospital.

Natalie then completed a Neurology internship and started a residency, before joining our team to complete her training. Natalie was successful in her specialist examinations in February; we are so proud to recognise her as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology.

Natalie enjoys all aspects of Neurology, however, she is especially keen on spinal surgery and has interests in intervertebral disc disease, constrictive myelopathies/subarachnoid diverticulum and epilepsy.

Meet Elsa, one of our Night Patient Care Assistants! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Elsa has a degree in evolutionary biology and previously worked at Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue

In her spare time, Elsa enjoys reading Greek mythology or fantasy books.

Although she has no pets at the moment, she plans on having a swarm of rescue Greyhounds in the future.

Working at NDSR, Elsa is most looking forward to learning more about veterinary medicine and doing whatever she can to help look after all the wonderful animals that come through the doors. โค๏ธ

Meet Ester, our new Surgery DSI, who was also previously one of our Rotating Interns!

We asked Ester a few questions about her time as a Rotating Intern and the experience she gained. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿค” What aspects of your time as a Rotating Intern at NDSR did you enjoy the most?

"I thoroughly enjoyed going through the different rotations and learning from different clinicians. It has been interesting to see how day-to-day consultations, investigations and procedures happen in a referral practice."

๐Ÿค” Would you recommend the Internship Programme at NDSR to others?

"I would definitely recommend it. The clinicians are all approachable and have their unique way of doing consultations and procedures which means you get exposed to a variety of clinical options and techniques. The nursing team is outstanding to work with as they are knowledgeable and good at communicating."

๐Ÿค” Which rotation has been the most rewarding or enjoyable for you?

"I have not had a rotation I did not enjoy but my preference goes out towards surgery. It is rewarding following a case from consultation to surgery to seeing them again for their post-up checks.

"The surgery clinicians all have their own tips and tricks for procedures and are good at teaching. There is a good exposure to both soft tissue and orthopaedic cases so there's never a dull day."

๐Ÿค” What support or elements of the Internship have you found most beneficial?

"The fact we have a mentor really helps with any issues you may experience during the internship. It is a great way to bring forward some problems you may have, learn about coping mechanisms or sometimes just to have a nice chat!"

๐Ÿ’› Wear Yellow Day for Cystic Fibrosis. ๐Ÿ’›

Our Small Animal Surgery Specialist Andy Craig has been helping to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust Charity Event

Andy says: "For the past two years, I've sent out a work-wide e-mail stating that I would donate ยฃ5 for every person who wore yellow and sent a photo to me.

"This year, I raised about ยฃ650, with Linnaeus kindly donating to the pot, so in total the donation was around ยฃ900.

"In total, more than ยฃ900 was raised by my colleagues wearing yellow and submitting photos, so a huge thank-you to everyone who took part!"
