🐾 Who Am I? 🐾

Since reopening I've been lucky enough to have lots of new customers and even more new followers to the page so I thought it was as good a time as any to do an introduction of myself!

I'm Beckee and I'm the voice and chief scissor operator of Barkers Dog Grooming!

I'm a dog loving mother of 4 human children aged from 18 down to 6 and also mum to 2 dogs, Wren, a black labrador and Tess, a border collie. When I'm not shampooing and blowdrying your lovely pooches you'll find me either doing Mum Taxi duties or back home on our farm with my husband tending to our 30 cattle, 200 sheep and my ever growing flock of chickens 🥰

I've been grooming since I left school at 18 with only a few brief pauses to have my children and have worked in large busy salons, groomed everything from rescue to show dogs, worked mobile and abroad and even taught dog grooming in a college for a while!

Barkers has been my business baby for a long time but was put on pause for a while after my youngest boy became poorly with acute asthma and was in and out of hospital. He's fit and healthy now and as all the children are at school/work, I've been able to pick up my brush and comb once again and get back to what I really love!

My passion is smart grooms in breed styles with emphasis on easy maintenance for owners as I know what it's like to have a busy life but I also love discussing specific wants and needs with doggy parents and helping them achieve happy, tidy dogs who come back to see me with waggy tails!

I've loved seeing clients from the past come back through the door AND meeting new ones! Here's hoping there are many more to come! 🥰

An awesome day out at Crufts yesterday! Walked about eleventy billion steps, shopped until we dropped and saw dogs of all shapes and sizes 🐶🐕🐩

Was fab to catch up with two of my fellow pooch pampering pals from Doggylicious and Dapper Dog Grooming and share stories and ideas from our grooming rooms!

I feel excited and inspired to keep on growing my lovely business and offering you all top quality grooming and some special extras! 😍🐾

❓️🐾 What's in a groom? 🐾❓️

Did you know that each dog breed has a breed standard groom? These styles are usually based historically on the job the dog would have been bred to do and the areas they lived in. Fluffy styles on Poodles come from the days when they hunted in water and had their coat cut to keep vital organs and joints warm.... long eyebrows on Terrier breeds protected their eyes from undergrowth while they worked and big thick double coats on Huskies kept them cosy in the sub zero temperatures they lived in.

However these days lots of dogs are more companion that work mate and for many reasons they require alternative coat care.
I LOVE doing breed standard grooms but I also understand that these don't work for all dogs or owners. You may have an elderly dog that needs a speedier groom so they don't have to stand for too long, or maybe you spend a lot of time out in all weather's so a more practical style would suit your dog better than long flowing locks.

Some dogs dislike being brushed and some owners dislike brushing! At the end of the day, my ideal goal is to create a smart looking pet with a coat that keeps both them and you happy until their next groom so be honest about what you need and we will find the ideal style 🥰🐶
