Absolutely agree π― β€
Those who know me know I used to be an army dog trainer. I learned two things while I was in the army working with dogs, both are still a daily part of my life.
First: you always sort your dog out before you sort yourself out.
Are they thirsty or hungry? Do they need anything at this point? Every day without fail, I follow this rule that I learned so many years ago. Dogsβ canβt just fill up a water bowl, they canβt stop a griping hunger in their stomach on their own, but we can. So I choose to meet their needs before I work on my own, and I always will.
Second: you always move at the slowest manβs pace.
This lesson taught me everything about living with older, slower dogs. As dogs get older, they run less. Older dogs sniff more. They sniff everything. Senior dogs might be stiff and achy and need to cover less ground, but they cover that ground at a slower pace.
Please consider their needs and go at their pace.
Itβs not fair to leave them behind or pull them along.
What a difference a day makes!
Three dogs lovin' life! π

Being yourself can be hard, canβt it?
I actually believe that in todayβs society we can forget who we are.
Thereβs so much pressure to be better, to be someone else to follow someone elseβs journey and someone elseβs idea of success.
So many adverts in this life, they scream into our subconscious β BE BETTER.
When really, they mean BUY BETTER.
When really, they mean BUY!
And even the genuine few, their journey is not ours.
And their success is not our success.
Itβs the same with dog training you know.
Even positive dog training.
We can see someone with perfect clicker timing and say to ourselves,
βThat will never be me
.why am I even bothering to tryβ
And rush back to our comfort zones, tails between our legs.
Back to the day job. Even when it's crappy.
We are right though.
We will never be them, and thatβs fine.
We donβt even need to try to be them.
Because we are us, uniquely us.
Iβm not a dog trainer and donβt want to be.
I will never run an agility course and I never want a dog who wants to run an agility course.
Because that's not who I am.
I will always want a dog with an opinion.
A dog who stands up for their own needs with confidence and trust that I will do my best to meet them.
Because thatβs so crucially important to me.
Happy dogs with confidence and the opportunity to just be themselves. Bossy dogs. Dogs who know they wonβt be blamed for an accident in the night. Dogs who ask for my food and sometimes get it. Dogs who sleep on my bed and take up space on the sofa.
Do you remember who you are in this World of dazzling adverts and social pressures?
Are you true to yourself, to your dogs, to what you know is right and important?
Are you?
